Give these devs some slack
They tried their hardest to bring out a good chapter and they did. The balance and scream changes are good, the maps done right, the killer is really fun and good and the survivors are top notch. I'm glad they made survivors better now that eruption has been nerfed.

Nice joke survivor main.

The Eruption nerf was good and so was the AMN buff.
The Shelter Woods changes are good.
The Red Forest maps looks great.
The scream change was bad.
Dull Merchant is bad.
The perks are bad.
SM looks to be a cash grab skin seller.
The Survivors are both very bland.

No hate, I'm just tired of the meta, and other than Eruption, it'll be the same. Takes so long for perks and killers to get changes, it gets stale.

THIS IS THE MAIN ISSUE.
It take ages to change perks, addons etc.
Instead they pump out chapter over chapter. I wish they would reduce it to 2 chapters per year, instead FAR MORE Balance-Chapters, so more killer-adjustments and maps etc.
I know they need to make money, so more aura-cosmetics and perk/addon-shop.

What? Did you say the Devs did something good? You have to speak up, I can't hear anything over this chase music.

I think the killer is fine , the reworked maps are still S tier maps for survivor , they didnt learned about eyrie of crows in terms of map size or balance seems like , the map is bigger and there is many solid connected tiles....thats disappointing ...only good news about the reworked maps regarding balance : THERE IS NO BREAKABLE WALLS YAYYY
shelter woods ironically is more boring to go against and boring to play , they removed a lot of pallets close to the main building and thats good untill u realize that there is nothing than a big 32 meter deadzone where 2 gens can spawns and as survivor if you get hit there , either you are forced to die or hold W to main building everytime...and for killer in the other hand main building has a good window that has no mindgame whatsoever and 3 pallets that can be easily win by bloodlust 1 and thats it.
in terms of visual yeah they look good..but gameplay wise is just not great...

I don't know I've seen some SM gameplay and she looks fun to play (yes being serious).
I've never been a 3 gen killer player anyways so I'll see what I can do with her. I'm not so hard up to win I wont drag out 3 gen. Really no rewards for winning except sweater matches.

The devs did a pretty bad job with this patch. Objectively. Here's why:
- Tunneling and camping aren't exactly what most people want in this game and yet here we are with a patch that incentivises it. Blood Rush is a very strong perk. That would not be a problem. If it didn't punish killers for spreading hooks. This perk literally cannot activate when you're being tunneled! And if the killer doesn't tunnel you get BR and screw them for playing nice. Great.
- MYC, an anti camping and anti tunneling perk, got nerfed with their scream changes. It wasn't super popular anyway but what message does that send? "We have decided that tunneling and camping are so prevalent that we want to buff these strategies while disincentivising any other play style for the killer."
- Eruption got a nerf. Fair enough. It was disgusting to play against so it needed a change. But this change incentivises slugging. The perk activates the moment you down someone. To capitalize on the aura vision you will need to slug. Another strategy that we all agreed wasn't exactly fun. The hypocrisy in their statement that they had to push this out asap because of "popular demand" is almost funny. I guess hundreds of discussions about DH aren't "popular demand".
- A killer that is objectively bad in normal gameplay. Instead Skull Merchant excells in making the game miserable. Her strengths are camping and tunneling. She has a built in tracking ability to always find the survivor she is trying to tunnel and her kit revolves around camping. I don't think you'll have fun playing against a Skull Merchant that holds a 3 gen for 40+ minutes.
- Skull Merchant's perks are so bad you'll never see them on another killer. And Skull Merchants will only bring them for the adept. Game Afoot is a meme fest. Leverage is whole new level of trash. That perk didn't do much to begin with and they decided to screw it all and nerf it anyway. What possible reason could I have to run Leverage? Sloppy does it's job in WAY better. Even Coulrophobia is better. Honestly, this perk might be worse than Furtive Chase. Furtive Chase will at least eventually in enough games confuse a baby survivor. Thwack! is an incredibly underwhelming perk. It might be useful on a killer you'll barely break any pallets with (*Nurse*) but on other killers it's too situational. And even then it's a pretty bad perk. Use any other aura perk and you'll get more out of it. I bet Undying would help you more considering that CoH is in every game.
- The reworked maps all look beautiful. Again. BHVR's design team is really great. However, Mother's Dwelling is still as large as it used to, spawns a ridiculous amount of connecting filler and main structures and still has that disgusting window in the main building. To top it off there are once again invisible walls surrounding the main building to block killers like Blight, Wesker, Demo and Billy to try and use their power to jump over an object. Temple of Purgation has the Borgo syndrome. There are so many pallets everywhere I can't help but wonder how anyone thought that'd be ok. I'd take old ToP over it any day. It's strong loops into strong loops into strong loops. That must be a Shift + W player's wet dream. Shelter woods is another example of what happens when you tell different people to just randomly design parts of a map without knowing what the others are doing. They all come up with a little safe zone. Then everything gets mixed until it fits together so well that Shift + W will allow you to delay the killer for over 3 minutes easily. And that is, if you always pre drop. The main building can be used as an incredible time waster as well. But at least it's not an infinite like GoJ.
A bad chapter indeed. Well done, devs.

It's people like you who help the Devs swallow copium...

Also, Mother's Dwelling is STILL enormous.

Agreed.
It appears that there's a significant management problem.
Overall, everything takes far too long; plus, more troubling, some changes indicate the developers/management are out of touch.
-A few folks and/or team need to be collaborating with Fog Whisperers to think/plan for what a DBD2 would look like.
-Every update needs to include perk updates.
-Every untouched map needs to be updated. (It makes no sense to update a map without addressing the size issues of the map.)
-Events are an opportunity to go big/crazy. Something more than recolored generators and totems is needed.
-It's understandable that businesses need to make money. Emotes & moris are no-brainer ways to make more money. (Admittedly, it's probably easier to make money via skins/costumes.)
-Since Survivor gameplay is fundamentally dull, efforts need to be made to liven things up wherever possible: day/night cycles/weather for maps, interactive map items, random quirkiness.
-Additionally, to change things up on the weekends, perhaps crazy skyboxes (or re-colored maps) could be added, plus random perk loadouts, environmental music, and even zombies!
-Etc.
There are so many possibilities...

Kinda hard to when your waiting 20+min to start the game for. Connecting to rtm servers
Never mind its a xbox service issue
Honestly I kinda like this chapert the addons make for unique builds

Even as a Merchant enjoyer the update at best is mediocre. Seriously who actually wanted the scream radius change?
5 -
What’s funny is Eruption’s not even enough to stop the 3 gen whining. Just like I predicted.
2 -
As long as the developers refuse to balance the game or create a matchmaking that is not the most horrendously incapable tool of matching you with others there's no slack from me. Oh and the cheaters too, there's another infestation at the moment and the game is barely playable.
1 -
So a Killer that more for selling skins is bad but Survivors having all of the cosmetics for whatever reason is bad???????
And by slack... what do you mean?
The fact that the Killer is Meh (apparently)
Perks are either Meh or bad (apparently)
Maps may look good but do they play any better
0 -
Have to disagree with the chapter being good. I feel the devs are being unfairly drug for it but it's really not good.
1 -
Yea I knew that was a red herring too. Again it basically comes down to if a killer can do it effectively, we don’t like it.
Twins are slandered for a playstyle that isn’t even that good on them and you have to waste time and go out of your way to affect. Simply because that one time in the PTB, someone got insta-camped by Vik and now that’s their legacy and the reason this killer hardly ever gets the updates it needs.
2 -
This!!!!
Seriously though why does evey new chase music sound like it was sampled from a blender or a washing machine? How do the devs not realise that it gets insanely annoying when you're in long chases?! 😮💨
3 -
Not only are the scream changes bad, but this chapter has 9 new perks and they are largely just forgettable perks. A lot of them are too weak for what they are trying to accomplish meanwhile the couple that might be good require a lot of things to go right before you get the value meaning you are still better off running the same perks as before this patch.
3 -
The devs can't win in that regard. When they bring out anti-loop killers, survivors complain that looping is pointless and all they can do is hold Shift + W.
When they bring out killers without anti-loop, killers complain that they just get looped for ages and can't do anything.
With how the game currently is though, killers do need -some- kind of anti-loop in their kit or else you simply can't beat a team of good loopers. Some really good survivors simply -don't- fall for mind games and then the chase is literally just circling a pallet a half-dozen times, hit them, they run to another loop, you run around it another half-dozen times, then Dead Hard... That or it's pre-drop every pallet on the map while their teammates bash out gens.
4 -
This, 100%.
I don't mind not laying off some criticism if its being hammered. But the devs just don't seem to actually listen to the community, they just sort of do limp-wristed movements and call a patch.
20 gig patch with bot fixes and yet Spirit is stull buggy?

This is largely because the game's core meta and now playstyle is based around obnoxious, and old gameplay strategies that should have translated 5 years later.
Your options are Loop Forever, Facecamp Survivors, 3 Gen Hostage or just don't play.
Bully squads running head on, boil over, etc, and just looping you into infinity is because the maps are poorly designed and game of hide and seek became a game of Chase, and it shows. I just think the team is incapable of addressing the conflicting issues of this game because these issues are hard-baked into it's DNA.
But what do I know. I'm just a Trapper Main and nothing else lol
2 -
I would argue that it likely isn't the developers/programmers who are to blame for anything. They simply follow directions from their management. If you're going to blame a group from the company then blame the right people.
1 -
The devs made a TERRIBLE killer that is ONLY meant to 3 gen which is one of the most annoying ways to play. They had created NINE perks that do nothing useful to shake up the stale meta. They did not fix the CORE issue with the red forest realm which is the size. The scream change is horrible making MYC a more difficult perk than it should be. The Devs spent MONTHS on this chapter and this trash pile is what they give? This killer is the worst thing they could have added for the games health. A killer that is only playable with meta gen kicking perks, camping and tunneling survivors off hook. The survivors MAY look OK but one perk is soul guard! the teamwork perks are useless, bloodrush only works if you are on death hook which promotes the killer wanting to tunnel you to avoid it! May this chapter burn in the dumpster where it was made and belongs.

I'll agree with this because the sheer lack of communication between the actual team the community makes it really hard to pint point WHO is at fault for this bad changes, the quality of life issues, etc,.
But then again, when I look at the quality of their twitter posts where they just have survivors in a winter map, in a stationary pose with "waiting for winter to end" with winter clothes-- I wonder if there REALLY is just a quality issue through out the entire DBD staff? They can't be bothered to even pose survivors? Just a lazy in game snapshot?
All of it just seems reflective of them just sort of throwing stuff at the wall, seeing what sticks, and that's good enough. IF it is also upper management, well, we can't do much because they're basically untouchable in terms of criticism which is why they stay so hidden. They let the little guy suffer it.

No.

Omg this!!!!

People like Wesker.
He's strong, fair and fun. He's got interesting and engaging mechanics but isn't overbearing.

Yeah I'm not very thankful for dull merchant (aka predator from wish) or the changes. I would've been happy if Eruption blocked the gen for 25 seconds and not aura reading. The hook screams are painfully dreadful depending on who got hooked, barely any perks got changed, and BHVR seems to only make fun licensed killers and make original ones boring just to p2w a game you have to play for to play most of the time.
This was a failure of a chapter through and through.
