My first experience on the new Red forest
My god they obliterated that map for blight. I could hardly traverse the map, as there is just SO MUCH STUFF just randomly placed.
And that main building… damn near an infinite when you tie all the windows in.
What an awful map.

How come every new map just gets 50 million props placed on the ground.

Played it for the first time as Huntress and it seems really terrible for her own map lol

I hadn’t played it yet until my last match… holy hell man. Even with AD vile I could barely rush anywhere without just getting stuck. Terrible rework.
1 -
I honestly don’t see how any killer would perform well on that map, let alone any killer that relies on collision.
2 -
It's so bad. I listed the litany of reasons in another thread, but yeah. Billy is so painful to play on that map now. I don't understand why they keep adding so much random junk with massive collision zones. It makes for bad gameplay.
13 -
They reduce grass inside title, but alot of them around randomly. Expert Trapper may set traps at connecting paths between titles.
Though looping is really hard, alot of random obstacle in between. Sometimes passable bush next to obstacle bush makes moving harder.
2 -
At least there isn’t a giant dead zone in the center of the map anymore.
2 -
if it made it bad for blight, then they did the right thing
we don't need good maps for the strongest killer there is.
14 -
I had issues with areas too small for killer to go through but survivors could. Also got ‘stuck’ carrying a survivor when I fell off the main building and landed on ‘something?’ Map has some issues still.

my guess.
It’s because they hired a new map designer that struggles with finding the perfect balance between too much and not enough.
there were a lot of junior artists like that when i was in college. They didn’t want to create atmosphere so they’d load the terrain full of 3D assets and forget that each one had a collision zone that was basically a wall. And you’d spawn into the world to test it and it’d be impossible to navigate due to collision.
so you’d tell them “hey ___ i like what you’re doing. It’s great. However, it’s a bit too much. Can you tone it down just a little?” And of course they’d just remove things instead of repositioning and then you end up with blank spots and some locations where there were still collision issues.
so you either say “look *******. I said tone it down. Not make it patchy and ruin the theme. Get out of my sight you talentless hack” which is very rude and obviously not the way
or you coddle them and try to coax them to succeed. Which they throw a hissy fit about and just resubmit the exact same thing resaved with a different date.
——
for the most part behavior does okay with its maps. But yeah… definitely some junior artists in the mix. I can tell.
edit
or at least it feels that way.
may just be something that wasn’t communicated between the modelers, the level designers, and testers.
could also just be an honest mistake or an intentional choice. It’s hard to know for certain.

If it's bad for blight it's worse for others
4 -
It's ok too, we have many other maps in the game, not every single one of them must be good.
It was always like this, some you win, some you lose and we move on.
not every map needs to be good for blight, not every map needs to be good for trapper, not every map needs to be good for killers, not every map needs to be good for survivors.
2 -
Every map should be relatively balanced. Red forest was not before, and it is extremely unbalanced now. A map that basically disables many killers’ powers should not be a thing.
14 -
Oh it is atrocious in terms of gameplay ( visually it’s kind of appealing and immersive ) , i can kind of share the same frustrations you’re having with Blight but as Spirit for me, the rain LITERALLY heavily muffles survivors’ breathing ( not like it’s already very inconsistent sounding and hard to hear in general in the first place but yeah let’s make it even MORE near impossible to hear 🙄 ) so yep, but i reckon it’s more detrimental for Blight oh well 🙄🫠
2 -
Map looks great but needs polishing for sure
1 -
No surprise there. Seriously has any map actually gotten better after the reworks. Either they ended up the same or ended up worse
Looking at you chapel
4 -
Nah, then every map would be the same, same layout, same props, same distance for hooks, same amount of pallets, same amount of windows, same generator placement and distance. That would make every map good for blight like you want. I don't see these blight mains complaining about maps that blight thrives over survivors. Or do you think there aren't maps where blight has advantages over survivors?
3 -
I’m not saying every map should be “good” for blight. But NO map should effectively render my power useless.
3 -
but remember, for a certain forum user that claim to play both roles it's not true at all that this map has an infinite (i won't say the name but you can guess who is)... honestly this rework is dumb af, the only killer that can still do something is (how curious) the nurse
2 -
this is becoming more common every rework or new stuff released...
2 -
I genuinely like the look and atmosphere of the map.. I do. It is just terrible to play on.
2 -
Isn't that just a really biased comment or am I wrong?

Trapper mains:

We don't need every single map releasing as bad for every Killer whose power doesn't pass through obstacles in a straight line or happen to be stationary.
Being unable to play because the map is full of invisible or misleading collisions is bad design. It'd be like a map coming out that's bad for Survivors because one area of it randomly forces you to crouch if you step in the wrong unmarked spot. Nobody would call that a map balance caused by interactions between skill and optimal conditions for a playstyle, it's just a hard 'no, no playing that way for you'.
4 -
I agree the asthetic appeal is there - the rework does look amazing. But omfg, some of the windows around main are disgusting, especially if you play a killer that loses mobility with charging their m2. I played Billy extremely tight as to avoid collision issues, but it really sucks having so much garbage getting in the way of snipes. I would hate to be a huntress main on this map

everything that hurts blight is wonders to my ears i cant emphatize with blight, sorry.

This is a hard map for Wesker/Blight.
The large amount of foliage makes it hard to tell exactly which thing you're targeting for a bounce/rebound.
Mostly its trees, I think they are the same ones from Yamoka.
But, its hard to get too upset about it, its one map out of a lot, and Blight/Wesker have many favorable maps.
And I want to face Trapper here, seems like he could have a good time with the ground cover.
2 -
They made the biggest map in the game just as big and invalidated movement abilities on it.
1 -
Red Forest is a realm, not a map. Be more precise.
0 -
Did they indicate they were going to improve(we assume rework means improve, not safe with these guys) it in anyway?
I mean I'm just not mad about it, its difficult, maybe overly so but in a game full of imbalances that are decided at match making time, I struggle to get angry at one that slights Wesker/Blight.
0 -
Both of the maps are ridiculous.
3 -
I don't think they indicated they were going to make it worse by penalising the few Killers who could actually traverse the blasted thing with a bunch more random hitboxes and obstacles. <_>
3 -
Yeah, also my main complaint about it. Red Forest is my favorite Realm and it looks great, but all that added clutter is just too much. I can get that old Red Forest was a bit empty on the ground, but they added so much, it is not even funny anymore.
Also, they have fun little green bushes which look almost the same, one of them you can pass through, the other not...
5 -
Its not a new map its an old map that was awfull and only got a visual update means its still awfull even more to the fact, that you see less. The map itself looks great, but balance whise its bad

Played it as survivor and I absolutely love it. Its pretty neat for stealth/ambush killers imo. Played against a Blight last time out and he made hard work of it. I play a lot of Oni and I always hated the old variant because of the clutter and loops that were available, not tried him on the new map yet.
Love the aesthetic of the rework though 👍
1 -
Yeah, these maps are probably the worst rework they did

The new maps with random ######### everywhere are just totally out of control. Unplayable for killers like Blight and Hillbilly. Even as Bubba I am constantly colliding with objects. It’s clear that there is very little consideration of these killers by the map design team

"But, its hard to get too upset about it, its one map out of a lot, and Blight/Wesker have many favorable maps."
RIGHT???
I don't see them making threads saying: "This map is way too good for blight and Wesker, please rework it"
2 -
Just wait until more people figure out how to turn the upstairs drop to the window into an infinite loop.
1 -
They are strong killers.
They have weaknesses.
The game is just made so that sometimes there doesn't appear to be much of a pathway to victory based on before match choices.
It seems like a dumb design philosophy to lean into but, whatever I'm not in charge.

That map was the final nail for me as killer. Taking atleast a week off to come back and see if killer is still worth playing. Just too many nerfs back to back with survivor
red forest went from being an amazing survivor map to a better survivor map. What did killers get? Scream perk nerfs >_>

My game crashes if survivors use an offering to pick this map. I'm really lucky that happens.
3 -
It was pretty much surv sided crap before, but now it's really scenic heavily surv sided crap. Some days I think like 95% of the talent at BHVR is on the art design team.
That said, despite my best effort, I'm struggling mightily to conjure up a single iota of sympathy for Blight mains
3 -
Probably because those maps are balanced. Lmao, why else would nobody talk about it?
You thought you did something. 😂
2 -
sorry but there is no way wreckerds yards, gas heaven and more than half of mac millan maps and some other very small maps are balanced, unless u consider balanced to killer sided maps.
2 -
It still isn’t a good map for Trapper as it’s too big for him.
This map isn’t good for any killer except Nurse. And that’s just what we needed! To make the gap between Nurse and the other killers bigger!
0 -
Well, that is sad.
I had hoped it might make him hard to manage.
0 -
Yeah it is sad. The grass is nice but it's so big you don't even have time to collect or set traps and when they are set the survivors might not even step in them because there is so many areas for them to run.
But at least the extra grass is a good sign that they might actually take Trapper into consideration in future map reworks.

Played Billy there a few times. It's not Garden of Misery but it's pretty bad. Most of the time you get in the general area you need to be in but that's about it. The bushes could be worse though.
This might be harder on Blight than it is on Billy actually.
0 -
But you are likely unwilling to learn how to play vs blight and any map that is bad for blight is worse for other killer minus 3-4 current maps. People that don't like blight in general really just mean they don't really want to be good at the game chase wise.
