Dead Hard update after Tools of Torment PTB

The change to activate dead hard after you are unhooked makes the perk even worse. This means you can only use dead hard twice in one game. Also, this encourages even more tunneling. It encourages the killer to hit the unhooked survivor and put them in the deep wound state, meaning that they can no longer use dead hard b/c dead hard does not activate in the deep wound, and then the killer would just tunnel/down the unhooked survivor b/c they know they have no chance of having dead hard. Having dead hard resolve around something like hooking/unhooking is not a good change. The killer will always be more inclined to tunnel the unhooked survivor after getting rid of their endurance, and this dead hard change just makes it even more rewarding for the killer to tunnel.

Regardless of the various points of contention, it's pretty clear they don't have a clear way to balance the perk with its current effect. It should just be reworked to do something different and call it a day.

If you worry about it, run DS, no one waits it now. You will have your DH after DS.

Killers already can hit you in basekit BT to avoid DH and this is one of the reasons why DS is better than OTR.

No more than 1 person at most should get DH activated per unhook. If the player unhooked has DH they get priority.

Or they could just make DH give endurance but no sprint burst.

I think DH should not give Endurance anymore and should give an protection like Mettle of Man since it is now limited to two usages per match but that's my opinion.

If you are tunneling still after hitting the survivor's Off The Record - deal with it. This is the only change I'd like in the future DH since Sprint Burst (and other exhaustion perks) is way more consistent and unlimited.

Personally I use ds to get rid of the deep wound and use dh after that. Very good antitunneling combo.

I do that as well - my favorite build is DS, DH, OTR and Adrenaline (before 6.1 it was unbreakable/iron will instead of OTR).

This change is more a QoL than a buff imo for other people so they won't need to be forced into using DS (which is a paid DLC perk and honestly it needs to be used in a safe place otherwise you will just get downed).

I do that as well, my favorite build is DS, DH, OTR and Adrenaline. Before 6.1, it was IW instead of OTR and sometimes I switched the 4th perk between Unbreakable and Adrenaline.

But this change I'm suggesting is more a QoL for other players, and DS needs to be well used in a safe place otherwise it won't do much to be honest. I wish it was kinda buffed, it is also a paid DLC perk so i do not think it is a good idea of forcing people using 3 antitunnel perks (one being paid) just for the idea of surviving.

Well if you want to be very safe Otr is good but for me it's not needed as when I used both ds and otr I had to let killer down me to use ds. So I think ds and dh is enough to counter tunneling taking 2 perk slots and dh still works even if you're not tunneled. But sometimes the ds stun is not enough and I have to use dh almost immediatelly so I think it could be longer eapecially agains't fast killers. I always try to run to shack or other safe loop to get best value from it.

I mean my idea is just to make DH and OTR to work since OTR is very counterable imo. I like being very safe but that's me and this change would make it a good very anti-tunneling combo (another option rather DS and DH or DS and OTR) since people are making DH an anti-tunneling perk. I think other people should have other combos rather than one with a paid DLC perk (which is mostly used in a high level MMR).

Isn’t it better that you can combine different perks for the same purpose? So, you want to prevent tunneling and use your DH, then OTR is not the best option and it’s better to run DS. You are bad at timing DH? You can run OTR with any other exhaustion perk. And there’s always OTR + DS + any exhaustion combo for you. And let’s be honest, OTR, DS, DH are powerful on their own since this is second chance perks, and OTR + DS + DH is insane combo when killer tunnels you, it doesn’t need a buff. You already win huge amount of time with this build, be glad killer chose to tunnel you because now with those perks you will win the match for your teammates.

New dead hard is massively better than the original PTB version.

In the original PTB version, people that equip dead hard might get 0 activations from it, if they didn't safe unhook anyone. In the newer version, every survivor that equips dead hard gets 2 activations for free.

Read patch notes again, it is still 1 activation per unhook.

Yes, 1 free activation after being unhooked the 1st time, and 1 free activation after being unhooked the 2nd time, for a a total of 2 activations for free.

Compare this to the original PTB version, where survivors could equip DH and gets 0 activations, because survivors might go the entire game without earning any activations.

You mean in the original PTB if unhooked surv died in 15 secs then the saver could not earn his DH? Well, you know, if this is a real case in your matches, you will not really worry about DH since chases against you are this fast. But if I understood you right then yeah it’s kinda buff and feels like free activation, but still compare it with life servers. We will have no DH in start-game and there are other more important problems with DH than amount of uses IMO.

I mean that in the original PTB, a survivor needs to actually do something to earn a DH activation, and they might not get any unhooks the entire game.

Maybe the survivors always got hooked on the opposite side of the map, and someone else got the unhook before the DH user. Maybe it's a game where one of the survivors is trying so much to get unhooks, that the DH user doesn't get any unhooks. Maybe the DH user is injured, and doesn't feel comfortable trying to go for unhooks. There are many reasons why a survivor might not get a chance to unhook other survivors, especially in solo q.

The result is that many survivors on the original PTB might equip DH and get 0 activations, because they didn't earn any. And a perk that might get 0 activations has a very high chance of being dropped from the meta, after survivors realize they might get 0 activations per game.

Okay, I get it and I will think about it. It's just that for now I have a feeling that for a killer it doesn't really change anything in terms of counterplay.

  • Coffeecrashing
    Coffeecrashing Member Posts: 3,784

It changes counterplay because the original PTB version was such a huge nerf that I wouldn't need to deal with it every game, and I could just swing at survivors and not worry about it.

Now that DH got a huge un-nerf, I have to worry that it still might be in every game, and I still feel heavily encouraged to do things like hit a survivor immediately after they got unhooked, to prevent DH.

This change suggestion isn't really for me but of course it would benefit me somehow.

I know how to time DH, and that's really bold of you to think I win most of my matches when I'm mostly a soloq player since being in a team means you're not only dependent of you (as it is for playing killer, that also does not mean I'm saying it is easier to play killer but I hope you get what I mean).

I think this change would benefit other players that do not have DS (and honestly that perk is more dependent of where you get downed and it is paid as well unlike OTR) and since it is now an anti-tunneling perk it would benefit in other combinations.

I didn’t mean you, I used pronoun you just to describe my thoughts. You can replace every “you” with “me” and “I”, it won’t change much. Sorry if it wasn’t clear.

Yeah it is quite inaccurate, actual difference is that it discourage fair play.

People get punished for it unless they do tunneling.

  • Geiz
    Geiz Member Posts: 43

That doesn't change much cause OTR and the "new" DH are very counterable since you can just hit them right after they are unhooked.

These perks should work like they are meant to - not that they are bad right now tbh, but it should be better. I'm not saying for it work like how it was in 6.1 PTB where you could stack all Endurance at once.
