A lot of Killers AFK from start

Is there any kind of auto-detection/punish for Killers who don't play the game at all? I'm fairly new and I'm trying to learn/get used to the game but I'm encountering a lot of games where the Killer just doesn't play at all. Just stands at spawn. Weirdly, they sometimes do actions (like attack/use abilities) but without moving, not sure if this is someone at the keyboard or just an automatic thing Killer does if idle for a while.

Anyway, these games are (obviously) incredibly boring and feel pointless, I know I'm theoretically getting "free" bloodpoints but I don't really care about that, I want to actually play the game.

some killers are doing it because they get Survivor map and they dont wanna play that map .. i did it sometimes too,

I don't think that's a valid reason to ruin the game for 4 other people, especially at my (very low) level where map definitely isn't determining who wins. Does BHVR think it is?

I'm struggling to come to terms with the casual attitude around this problem, every other online multiplayer game I've ever played has strict rules around being/going AFK and meaningful punishment if it happens often enough (with very good reason IMO). Even with a cursory look at this very forum, I can see multiple threads about it.

(I'm assuming "Survivor map" is a map that favours survivors)

survivor map means there is so much pallets, so much good pallets which will give u much time to loop with the killer ( garden of joy is survivor map, decimated borgo is mostly survivor map, maybe haddonfield, ) and i know but if u will have more hours in this game and u will play often killer, u will see as killer which maps u wanna play and which maps are bad for you as killer, but u are right, some punishment here would be nice )

How is it ruining the game just do gens and leave. Killers don't have a easy way out if they get a match they really don't want to play due to map rotation or being sent to a map that's survivor friendly.

If the Killer wants to leave they will take a DC penalty while Survivors can just suicide on hook to leave the match without penalty.

Man... I know some maps still favor one side over the other, but the disparity is much less drastic nowadays. Anyone else remember meat plant when it did have like (no joke) 40-50 pallets. It was awful as a killer.

I don't understand why. Akiller goes afk. You might as well play it out and get some points or you could have a surprise win. I had a game a few days ago as myers and was getting destroyed by a swf sabotaging gang on Ormond and nearly went afk. My noed kicked in and I got the 4k. Might as well try

I have had a lot of killers DC right after the last gen gets done though which is obnoxious.

They might be purposely trying to lower their MMR. Its not something I'd do, but I've heard of players wanting to do that. I do agree though, would be far easier to play and just don't 3 hook anyone.

    1. No one would play Dead by Daylight if it was "just do generators" and there was no killer. Turning it from a game people play/enjoy into a game no one would willingly play is effectively the definition of ruining it.
    2. I don't think anyone SHOULD have an "easy way out" if everything doesn't go their way. That's just part of the game. No other online multiplayer game I've played treats this as acceptable behaviour and with good reason.

I guess my real question is, if there's no punishment, which of these reasons is it?

    • It's intended but not implemented yet
    • The devs haven't thought of an effective detection method
    • The company considers it acceptable behaviour

There isn't really anything to punish.

One of the first thing you have to consider in DBD is "Does X action or inaction prevent the game from progressing and ending normally". People going AFK sucks, but it doesn't actually hinder the game in any way. Survivors are actually more able to do gens and leave so the game at it's easiest to progress and end under normal circumstances. There isn't a always a clear cut reason as to why someone AFK's also so enforcing penalties can often be seen as heavy handed. That said I do believe there is an in-game category you can report under, but don't expect anything great. If they for some reason are punished you won't know and it will be something very light.

Most other multiplayer games don't make players so directly responsible for each other's fun as DBD does. Other games want you to have fun with the game even if your opponents, but dbd is sorta built to have one side effectively be the game full stop.

I don't approve of this approach but I understand why it happens. Say you put the fast vault on Meyers for some fun. Superior anatomy, bamboozle, and fire up. You want to teleport through vaults just for some fun and get some cool reactions from survivors. Then you wind up on the game map. I would still run around as killer just so I'm not sitting their but I probably wouldn't even really be trying.

I wouldn't want to just sit their but I understand why people do it. Other reasons why people do it I won't try to excuse. Tanking mmr is another one I've seen and I agree they should have penalties for that but unfortunately as of right now I don't think they have a way of telling why people are doing it.

Dude, I play from South Korea, no joke like 80% of my survivor games are ^$^# afk clickers. It makes me unable to do daily rituals, rift progression, and makes the game no fun. A quick Google shows that people have been raising this issue for years, why isn't it addressed??? How hard is it to use anti clicker software? Especially when they basically never move?

Yeah, that kind of thing is AFK farm. The problem with leveling up in DBD is that you get experience just by completing a round. It is not necessary to be active. Attacks and abilities are designed for survivors so that they can, if not play, then farm as well.
