Knight. The Carnifex unfortunately outclasses the other two guards in most scenarios.

An unfortunate design flaw of the knight is the disparity in strength between the 3 guards.


The assassin, jailer, and carnifex are all unlikely to hit a survivor during a hunt (especially without the dried horsemeat addon). Although in open spaces the assassin can quickly catch up, against good survivor players that can utilize "hugging" map geometry or vaulting locations the hunt will often expire before damage can occur.

This unfortunately leaves the main utility of the guards being forcing the survivors to run past beneficial "looping" areas, or occupying them to keep them off of generators. This means the carnifex is the most useful during hunts, which doesn't make much sense to me as that was supposed to be the Assassins function.


The Jailer often feels like he lacks a purpose other than being easy to detect survivors, which has diminishing returns as you get better at aiming the power. Patrolling for 24 seconds often feels like a detriment rather than a useful boon of the guard. Being locked out of the power feels really bad. If his purpose was the occupy survivors time and keep them away from generators, the carnifex does this better and in a more "guaranteed" fashion when hunting.

Ideally, I'd like to see the Jailer and Assassin have niches that functions against good teams. Whether that be the Jailer applying debuffs to survivors, or the Assassin's hunting being either faster or a longer duration.

    Here's some tentative ideas to help the guards:

    • Jailer: 12 sec. chase time. If a hunt begins and a gen is within his radius, that gen is blocked for the duration
    • Carniflex: 14 sec. chase time. After finishing a break action, begins a hunt if any survivors are in his radius
    • Assassin: 16 sec. chase time. No other changes

    Imo Carnifex's chase time and banner delay should go to jailer, and could maybe break pallets he walks through during a hunt to compensate

    His assassin guard need more speed. Assassin guard is not good enough at countering hold-w survivors. Main issue with knight.. Hold-w vs guards makes knights power for getting power hits is unrewarding. I still think that knight guards should gain 1-5% haste based off distance of patrol path. This would help knight to counter hold-w strategies in the chase and make him a solid killer against all skill-brackets. Whenever I am playing Knight, I feel like I am demolishing all weak/medium survivor teams but heavily struggling against the hold-w very experienced survivors.

    Same here.

    It's always a feel bad moment when you realize your killer is basically useless against higher level players.
