Killer Accessibility (And What BHVR Can Implement)

Accessibility For Killer?

BHVR seems to really avoid Killer accessibility since I think they do not want to lead to a situation where an accessibility feature becomes needed or necessary to play. With Survivor, it is easier to implement stuff like that, but for Killer, it is just naturally trickier.

So... I have provided a list of things BHVR can do to provide accessibility options to Killer...

Notification Vignettes

  • Whenever a Noise Notification, or Notification of any kind, is created with a match, a vignette around the border of the screen is created to alert the Killer that these notifications occur.
  • Notifications typically have a visual indicator but the information is useless if you dont even know that information is being provided, normal DBD has an audio cue to help players, but for those with hearing impairments, this becomes more challenging. Providing a visual aid option to players over an audio cue can help.
  • Notifications for Perks Notification, Generator Completed Notifications, and general Noise Notifications can all have their own color assigned to it, colors can be changed in the Accessibility Tab of the Options Menu.

Changing The Color Of Auras

  • Killers and Survivors who have colorblindness sometimes have issues with not being able to see Auras because the colors blend too much with other colors. Some people also have to constantly change their settings when loading into a map because the colors can vary and so does the blending of colors as a result.
  • A simple solution is to allow players to directly change the color of Auras altogether, this can be changed in the Accessibility Tab of the Options Menu, and applies to both Killers and Survivors.

Controller Vibrations

  • For those on Console or playing on Controller, vibrations are normally completely ignored but for those who having hearing impairments, the Controller's vibration feature can be used to it's fullest by providing information to the player physically without the need of visual aid.
  • The option to change out Notification Vignettes for Controller Vibrations can be changed in the Accessibility Tab of the Options Menu.

FOV Slider (And Removing Shifting FOV)

  • Some players get motion sickness from certain FOVs, which requires them to change it. For a really long time, Killers were forced to using Shadowborn to increasing FOV. Killers should be presented with the option to change their FOV.
  • Additionally, perks like Monitor and Abuse should have the option to disable the FOV change since the shifting FOV can cause motion sickness for certain Killers.
  • These options can be changed in the General Tab and Accessibility Tab of the Options Menu.

Textboxes For Audio

  • Certain games have textboxes that explain what audio is actively being played nearby. Example, if a Survivor is running around, the game would show "Footsteps" at the bottom left in a textbox. This extends further with also displaying stuff like "Noise Notifications" and such.
  • This system is, in my opinion, the best thing BHVR can implement. It directly shows what audio is playing, but does not providing pinpoint accurate information as to where it is happening. Letting players still have to figure out where the audio is coming from.
  • This option can be changed in the Accessibility Tab of the Options Menu.

BHVR seems to really avoid Killer accessibility

what about colorblind mode and flashlight changes to avoid photosensitivity problems? Photosensitivity adjustments were also done for Sadako (or was that only from surv POV?), and there haven’t been too many surv accessibility settings as well..

i agree with all your suggestions though!

and will add: further controller settings in-game (who would have thought I would mention these again? Lol)

Deadzones, response curve, different sensitivity for aiming vs normal gameplay, different sensitivity setting for each killer, where applicable, gyro aiming as optimal setting

I like these ideas, I do feel killer needs a lot more accessibility options, and the FoV perks are a relic of the past honestly.

Changing the aura color of survivors would be nice too.
