lets discuss why is it so important to win for some players in dbd?
why not just play the strongest builds if it is that important? why not just use nurse specifically if 4ks are all that is important?
sweating to get a 4k every match just leads to harder and harder matches and more mental stress...what is the point? is it ego?
gen rushing and getting out of the game in 5 minutes when it probably took longer to find a match? I cant think of a better equivalent for a survivor win except maybe a 4 team escape but that is mostly swfs
what are the communities thoughts? is it really that important to get a 4k to assert dominence?

Idk.
I like to win and I feel like not trying my best is doing a disservice to the Survivors. I can ease off, but I'm not gonna do something that will be throwing.
I'm not going to slug people for 4 minutes just to 4K, but I'm gonna do my best to win, especially if it's a good team,

Lots of people find winning fun, something about dominating a team and getting a 4k is just enjoyable.

never understood slugging for 4k....that time wasted is another game that could be played. i am usually happy with a 3k and if the last survivor gets hatch then so be it

I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting a 4k or wanting to escape. It's the not being able to handle a loss that seems to be alot of peoples issue, especially since the game is designed for you to lose every now and then (by giving you tougher opponents).

it is fun but for me only if i switch up which killers i play

Why is it so important for Survivors to do gens quickly? Why sweat so hard to get them done? I mean, it just leads to harder and harder matches and more mental stress. We can psycho analyse all we want and put it down to "asserting dominance," but there's a much simpler explanation.
It's a game with a predefined win condition that people are working towards; both Survivors and Killers. Winning is the optimal outcome that rewards the most pips and bloodpoints. Those harder, more stressful games don't come from a few 4Ks here and there, they come from the MMR system being an absolute desk.

Same , I don't like to use stupid OP killers either like blight or nurse, something in the middle park with a fun power like Dredge, Wesker and Hag

######### they don't wanna win that much!! still seeing people play trapper, legion, myers and solo q religiously.

Yes, after 2 escape in a row, I faced a Spirit (no tunnel, even leaving 2 hooks Ada to find me who didnt get any hook) that kill all of us with 4 Gens left. I have to accept its time for me to lose the match, killer was totally out skilled us
Its the problem of people keep saying "try to 4K against good teams", or "try to escape against good killers".

a rank mode would make more sense for those games though

I think people just want to play seriously and not get so ridiculous result.

surviving doesnt give the optimal bloodpoints for survivors though...gen rushing and escaping only gives around 15 to 20 thousand bps
0 -
True, but it's 7k BP just for escaping. So if you're getting 15-20k total, somewhere between half to a third of that is just from the escape.
Not to mention that a 'bad' survivor game could get you as little as 3-5k if you're tunneled out of the game immediately.
So either way you're getting very little in the way of BP, and the only real incentive is the bigger chunk you get for actually escaping.

In Magic The Gathering there's three main categories of players, Timmy who is thrilled to play the game for the most part, Johnny who wants to win but in an unconventional way (like with his weird strategy,/weird deck) and Spike, who wants to win by any means necessary.
People who play this game as a party game might be more like Timmy, killers who wanna win playing some hex build or mid-low tier killers they find fun are closer to Johhny and people who wanna win whatever the cost, so they play Blight/Nurse and whatever other strong perks/add ones/killers come around are Spike.
Most people probably fall in the Johnny category, they do care about winning just not in the sort of way to sacrifice their fun (looking at Nurse's feet everytime she end her teleport is pretty boring). ALso playing at the highest level is inherently boring because the incentive to experiment is low (as it raises the risk of failure/losing) so people rather rely on good and tried strategies that are as safe as possible and often those lack interaction with the other party.

Personally, if someone dies on hook at 5/4 gens for whatever reason I just 2 hook everyone, smack the gens , and we all go to next game a little less frustrated .

The 4k/5 min escape isn't about asserting dominance, it's about playing the game correctly. I'm going to use chess as a metaphor for DBD.
My goal is to get the enemy king in checkmate. I find immense joy in doing this as quickly and efficently as possible. I find immense joy in the proccess of figuring out how to do this as quickly and efficently as possible. If I end a match in five turns I feel happy over my progress up till that point. If I lose in five turns, I am excited by how much more content I have to explore through self improvement. And if both sides play well? The match is immersive, and a crowd is cheering in my head over how awesome it is to be alive right now.
But then you'll run into these people with some really weird notions about how chess, and games in general, are supposed to play.
"Ugg, people that go for checkmate are so boing. Only the matches where I get to promote a pawn to a queen are good, people need to take the game less seriously and make a few misplays on purpose so that I can promote a pawn every match."
"I'm so tired of people that play aggresively, I never have time to castle."
"Nobody wants to roleplay with me! Both kings should walk to the center of the map to negotiate before sending their best warriors out to joust and [the story goes on for 30 more minutes]"
Like, ok. I get it, you want to be cute and play in the sandbox, but the rules and win condition are where the core of the fun lies. If you don't want to play the game, that's fine, but don't hate me for taking the game seriously and not pulling my punches.
I'd rather wait 20 minutes for one good game then spend 20 minutes facing a killer that doesn't spread their hooks, or survivors that don't do gens. Fast matches are just a prelude to the good ones where both sides are equal.

If you're good at playing killer you don't even need to sweat to win most of your games, it just happens. I play most killers and don't main any meta killers. I rarely tunnel or proximity camp and only really feel the need to do it sometimes if I'm up against a solid SWF that obviously wants to play in a competitive style. I'll normally get a GG regardless of a win or lose with those teams because they respect the fact that you need to play in the most efficient way to win against them.
If you play this game long enough you basically just get very good at winning without having to play in a way that is considered toxic. The games are generally more fun and relaxed, but you still dominate without really breaking a sweat.
Winning against solo players without tunneling or camping is also one of the most effective ways to shut them up in end game chat. 90% of the time when I've received abusive messages in end game chat is when the survivor teams gets a 3 or 4 man escape. Regardless of what killer & perks or if I'm clearly just messing about it's always after an escape I get abusive messages from some random idiot. Most of the time when I win people don't say anything at all with the exception of TTV SWF who mostly say GGWP regardless of the outcome.

Well here are some basic foundations for any game:
- A game is a contest.
- You're supposed to play toward the object of the game to the best of your ability.
- A game is considered good or bad depending on how it feels when playing toward the object of the game.
All of this upside down, headass bully-rhetoric criticizing people for doing something as natural as trying to win at a game is the most flamboyantly awkward attempt at social manipulation I've ever seen from a gaming community.
You'd have to be pretty ignorant to step into a PvP game with the belief that the other players shouldn't try to beat you🙄
It's sort of like arguing against the very nature of the type of game you're playing, and if that's the case then why are you playing a PvP game in the first place?

The point is everyone has different views. There are some who just enjoy "winning" by any means necessary, everything else be damned. Not saying it's the best mentality but it's understandable in that they will do whatever they want, which in this case is to 4K everyone, anyway.

how is it not?

but this game is trying to be everything under just one game mode...a competitive ranked mode and an unranked casual mode at the same time which isnt working with the current mmr system

To me, games are about having fun, and multiplayer games are about having fun with others. Not at them.
Winning is not so important to me as having fun and knowing my opponents had fun as well.
I can't change how my teammates behave, how they play, or how other killers play, but I treat others the way I'd like being treated and so far it's rewarded me with plenty fun and wholesome interactions, 4K or not.
That's all I want from the game.
So in my mindset, fun=winning=4K is hard to understand.

It's the same reason that every other game out there has casual matched and ranked matches. Some players find fun in competing against one another and optimizing their gameplay. Others find fun in the experience as a whole and have fun just playing.
I could run the best builds on the best killers every game, but that's not really competitive. That's pub stomping. I already win 80-90% of my killer games. I don't need to abuse a terrible matchmaking system and win 95% of my games to sleep at night.

The issue with the game is that there’s no differentiation between “casual” or “competitive” players and we all, regardless of play style/experience, tend to get screwed over by MMR.
At the end of the day there will always be an element of competitiveness to DBD due to its asymmetrical nature and the fact that each side has pretty clear “win” conditions (escaping for survivors, kills/hooks for killer).
