bHVR needs to do more Surveys on specific Killer gameplay feeling/experiences
So this is a response to an answer given during the Reddit Q/A, to the question asked if Trapper could get buffs, but the answer was:
Now Trapper in particular may not be unbalanced, but as a Killer he is still very clunky and slow to play. The setup time is atrocious imo. So many people I ask tell me the same, Trapper feels bad to play. This in particular highlights a problem I think you have bHVR...
Your old Killers are not ageing like fine wine, instead Wesker the newest Killer on the block is stealing all players, we know this cause every survivor I ever hear complains they only see Weskers.
And I think the problem is that you don't do proper Questions in your Surveys about how it feels to play older Killer and you really need to do those, so you can know how we feel about them a lot more so in turn you can do something about the rather clunky old Killers, who might need a few changes to smoothen the experience playing them. Like maintenance of an old Car.
Yes it might anger people who play that killer every day, but as a product some of those Killers are really not up to being played in Modern Dead by Daylight without feeling like Im aging playing them. That is why players are leaving a specific Killer community over time, Alternatives are so much better. You cant seriously have Killers feel more viable than others, cause you have a magnificent roster of Killers.
So PLEASE put it in the surveys regularly, ask us about why we are not playing the Killers we bought.
And know you would make a lot of players very very happy if you improved the gameplay experience of Trapper.
Live Service polish of Killer gameplay experiences is just as important as Live Balance. (lets call it Live Polish.)
EDIT NOTE: One of my friends said you should also do rotating surveys on old maps too.

The reason they don't ask about this in their surveys is because they don't care about it. They already said: The kill rate is fine. End of story.
The last survey contained a lot of questions about cosmetics. Can you guess where their interests lie? (Hint: Cosmetics make them money while Trapper reworks do not.)

Not that I'm against your idea, but I'm not sure how the Reddit AMA screenshot supports that argument? If anything, that proves they are paying attention to basic maintenance and gameplay feel, since Trapper's getting an update despite being fine in the stats.

He is not getting an update. I don't know about it at least.
I know he is getting bear skin, that's it.

Then reread the post, because this is right at the end.
This [Trapper Cosmetic with new Mori] will ship later in the year, along with a killer update.

Oh right, my bad.
Why then write he has kill rate they are happy with?
Doesn't seem right, it will probably be just some small addon changes.

The image is not meant to support the argument, it just highlighted the issue for me. That issue being, People are asking for change but since balance is fine, they feel things could be kept the way they are or whatever the small update is. Not the best solution imo.

To make the distinction between a big overhaul and a more restrained number-tweaking. I imagine addon changes and a few number changes are in the cards- things like setting speed, maybe if we're lucky some trap spawn logic changes.

trap spawn logic changes, would be SWEEET.

That's what I'm crossing my fingers for. Anything else would be nice, but that'd be the thing that really helps him.

To both of you, they wrote that trapper is meant to be a beginner killer. A killer with a simple power meant to be easy to pick up. They don't just want to turn Trapper into a complex killer. His killrate being fine means he doesn't need drastic changes, but they still are looking to give him a bit of love to make him feel better to play.
A couple of anniversaries ago we got a trapper QoL patch, included a full addon overhaul alongside Trapper getting a basekit +1 trap. It didn't break Trapper in anyway and overall just improved the experience for playing that killer. I doubt we'll see a full addon overhaul again for him, but things they could do are touch some of his least used addons to make them more appealing or messing with trap spawn logic so you don't need to walk to the otherside of the map to grab traps.
Trapper is just never going to compete with Nurse and that's fine.

Nobody is saying Trapper has to complete with Nurse. I am not ever am comp player.
However even so it Trapper was originally meant to be a first Killer, that still isn't an excuse for not addressing the many feedbacks about the Killer. The Trapper was called weak before that last QoL update, clearly the problem was that update was not enough.
I guess we will see what "an small update" will do for him, but there are other killers out there still which is very rarely played or seen.
This is what my post is about, being balanced isnt enough, they should also feel great to play.

They literally do not care about the killer experience playing the game.
1 -
Then why're they giving a killer whose stats are fine an update? Seems like the only reason they'd do that would be to make the killer more fun to play.
Same for the Singularity changes that are coming up soon. Why improve a killer, if they literally do not care about the killer experience playing the game?
1 -
One new killer is hardly indicative of the killer experience as a whole.
"Singularity, one out thirty two killers is being changed. Doesn't that make your happy???"
Watch the anniversary stream and point out one single thing they said about improving the experience for killer players. It's nothing. Killers are set dressing to enable survivor gameplay.

Even looking only at the contents of the specific forum message you're responding to, that's two of thirty-two, not one.
This is, of course, putting aside how silly it is to assume I meant literally only Trapper and Singularity are getting updates as far as the killer role is concerned.

You're talking about trapper? They said the most vague, minimizing statement possible about him. Again in the anniversary stream, there is nothing about killer gameplay or updates. They toss crumbs here and there to individual killers. In the grand scheme of the game it means very little.
I'll never forget the qna when Patrick was around when they just went on and on about survivor improvements and one dude popped up and said "hey killers are getting stuff too" and the others just looked annoyed at him. That's the attitude, shown over and over. Killers are there to facilitate survivors, not have their own agency.

I'm talking about all of the killer experience updates we've had and will continue to get.

Trapper is not weak against normal players.
I sometimes play him and got some pretty good snowballs at the end even against some good players.
As always - against experienced players he suffers as many other killers.
