DC PENALTIES

DC penalties in dead by daylight are absolutely HORRID.

Penalties in any game that does not have or offer some type of comp game mode for one is already just ridiculous but the fact that the penalties go anything beyond 15-30 minutes max is just absurd…

I’ve seen Twitter users with penalties of up to 72hours like how is that ever necessary…this impacts the game in so many negative ways. But before I get into the many issues with this set up, I’ll just get into the biggest one.

The BIGGEST issue with penalties is anytime you leave a match whether it be you going into the menu and deciding to quit or you completely lagging out due to connection errors maybe your power shut off maybe a pet or younger sibling pulled your plug. NO MATTER WHAT the situation is it is ALWAYS considered as you pressing the pause button and just quitting through the menu.

This has been ongoing since like legit when the game dropped and sadly there are too many players who can say they’ve been penalized and unable to play their game just for lagging out which is just…stupid. Nobody should be basically banned from playing for a long period of time JUST for lagging out. It’s stupid and it does absolutely nothing positive for the game or player base. (Unless you consider catering to crybabies temper tantrums positive)

The only people I’ve genuinely seen happy with this penalty system are salty players who can’t get over a bad match because of someone dcing or losing out on a challenge over a dc which is not that deep or serious AT ALL and you can simply play your next game to get the challenge done / have a better match next game.

Mind you, there are players who are petty and dc to spite the killer from getting a kill or killers who dc because they can’t tunnel a player or get more than a 1k those people do exist I will not ignore that. But unfortunately people dc sometimes and they probably always will lol honestly they have every right to stop playing a game if they so choose to, we all play for fun if for whatever reason you really just aren’t having fun in a match and you do choose to dc there is absolutely nothing morally wrong with that decision ITS JUST A GAME.

It’s sad that the players who lag out are forced to either switch games or wait large amounts of time to play again just to appease the attitudes of those left in the match…..I have too many friends who can’t enjoy dbd because of their connectivity issues and sadly they’re my closer friends. So I’m left with continuing DBD with the people I play with often but talk to less or quitting the game in general for either long periods of time or in general because I mean what’s the point if I can’t enjoy dbd with all my friends because they’re being forced not to play all over occasional lag outs. And it’s not like they lag out every single game but sometimes they’ll lag out like once or twice a day and the penalties carry over so you get double or triple the penalty if you lag out again the next day it’s soooo stupid lol.

There is a method of bots replacing dcs apparently coming to the game soon but if they keep penalties in it’ll just be useless because like I said before people who aren’t actually dcing cannot control their wifi or whatever kicking them out of games so in turn people will still choose to just quit dbd.

To resolve this issue at least somewhat bhvr should remove penalties entirely during events and for the first week of new chapter releases just to give people a break sometimes. They should also change the automated dc penalty system and lower penalty times from reaching 72+ hours to just 30 mins to 1hour of no playtime after a dc.

I don’t really care who disagrees with this, not everything is about you and you being mad over a game in the moment. Some people don’t have the best internet or best platform to play on but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be allowed to play at all.

I’ve been playing dbd since it’s release and I love the game but whenever I get a penalty over a lag out I find myself just not not even wanting to play it for an entire day or two after because I don’t want a penalty build up and I don’t wanna wait a set time if I didn’t even leave the match intentionally….but yeah

Hopefully we see some real change to penalties after the bot system is added because otherwise this game will continue to lose players over this.

You don't hit hours and hours of DC penalty unless you DC a lot, and at that point, it kinda doesn't matter if you chose to quit or if you lagged out. If your internet is that bad that you're lagging out of matches more than every once in a while, the unfortunate reality is you really can't play team-based online games without running the risk of racking up DC penalties-- and trust me, I've been there, I know how irritating and frustrating it is. The fact is, though, it isn't the game's fault.

And, if you're the kind of person who spitefully DCs or ragequits constantly, you should be penalised for it. DCing heavily impacts the match, it isn't just about you. The game should have some basic quality control to ensure everyone gets a shot at playing the game properly, whether that's anti-grief mechanics or DC penalties.

Side note, I'm really not sure what comp modes have to do with DC penalties. Don't most online games have leaver penalties? Admittedly, I don't play that many, but they certainly should if they don't, unless they're like... a battle royale or something along those lines.

They have disabled the DC penalty on many occasions (usually when there's a game error that forces players to DC).

Every single time, without fail, the game goes to ######### because people don't stop DCing the moment they're inconvenienced. Survivor is first found by the killer = DC, gen pops before a down = killer DC, etc. And the game becomes unplayable, with maybe 1 in 5 games ever making it to completion without a DC.

You want to remove DC penalties during events? Well then there's no point in having events because no one will ever make it to endgame to receive their rewards, and no one will play past the first day.

I don’t really care who disagrees with this, not everything is about you

Well said, it's not just about you. Suck up the DC penalty, it exists for a good reason. Fix your connection and stop ruining the game for others. It's not just about you.

Not true. 3 DC’s in the span of 48 hours is already 15 minutes. It stacks up pretty fast.

If this game was actually balanced, we wouldn’t be needing the DC penalty. Balance is something they have neglected to do the first 6 years of the game’s existence. They finally started last year, the game is already much farer. However, a lot of big issues still exist. They will keep the penalty on as a bandaid fix.

Most multiplayer games do, and if your connection sucks so you lag out. Do not play in the first place.

That’s not a long wait time and also if you do DC 3 times within 48 hours that’s probably on you.

Right, but that's also already three DCs. If your internet is disconnecting you that much, it's definitely time to take a break from online gaming- and again, I know that's annoying, I've been in that position many times, but that's just how it is.

On the flipside, if you've DCed intentionally three times in that span of time... you deserve that penalty. Don't DC. It's not that hard.

If you're slugged or camped, you will get to your next game quicker by allowing yourself to die, than you will if you DC past your first DC.

It takes 2 minutes to die in either case, while your DC penalty will be 5 minutes or more.

So there's never an excuse to DC in these cases. And if you're being held hostage, file a report, that's what your first 1 minute DC allowance is for, legit games you cannot leave.

    Yup.

The only one of those I'd consider fair game for DCing is the 3-gen scenario, since expecting someone to stay in a match for over forty minutes is definitely too much. Expecting them to wait the four minutes it takes to be slugged to death (if that even is what happens), or the two minutes it takes to be camped to death, though, that is absolutely reasonable. It's part of the game and in both scenarios DCing completely prevents your team from even trying to make a play to swing things.

Not to mention that there are anti-slug perks in the game that you could bring if you hate being slugged so much you'll DC and eat a longer penalty than just waiting out the slug timer.

Penalties shouldn't be more than 10-15 min max. All this 1 hour and more is just toxic flex and nonsensical feature that were enforced by entitled killer mains' "feedback" bc they can't sleep well if someone leaves their keep hostages practice unpunished

    • Just don't leave a match.
    • If that's because of your internet connection, you should have taken the hint the first two times you got a problem to fix before trying to play again and get an increasing penalty.

"whether it be you going into the menu and deciding to quit or you completely lagging out due to connection errors maybe your power shut off maybe a pet or younger sibling pulled your plug."

I will not pretend that I have the statistics for this, but I would bet a large sum of money that players choosing to quit is 95% or above of DC reasons, 5% is internet/system issues. A pet pulling a plug out is 0%.

Seeing as you used it as an example I imagine it must be a real issue for you, so if you have a pet that is consistently pulling a power cord out to disconnect you from games, I suggest you video it and put it on TikTok as it would get lots of views and likes.

The only thing they need to address is check when you intentionally DC and when your internet is down, even is the servers fault and you are punish for that
