Disconnect Bot Concerns

I'll start with saying disconnect bots coming is a good thing but I'm worried about the position this put killer players in; as someone who play survivor and killer, Can Killer players DC if the entire lobby is bots? Will it count as a loss? Will they be given a penalty?

It's no secret some (all) of the killers are hated (especially the strong ones) so heavy DC's against them are expected. I expect to see Nurse/Blight/Spirit/Wesker/Skull Merchant (not strong but horrible to verse)/Knight/and more being filled in a lobby with bots and it'll basically be Custom Lobby but with blood points involved.

So I'm wondering what are the things on killer side of this to prevent one half of your game (that's just as important as the other half) from being given the short end of the stick?

Will DC penalties become longer for DC'ing survivors? Will killers have the option to opt out of full bot matches? Many questions that I didn't see answered surrounding this new mechanic and I'm wondering.

Also before anyone become "like that" cause I know how many DBD players can be, I mostly play Survivor (David King main) and I play killer occasionally (Nurse main); I do personally feel to speak about anything on the game you should at the bare minimum play both sides but that's just me but I say that to avoid the whole "You're a killer main!" or "You are such a survivor main!" When I do what a game is meant for, to be played, and all of it be played at that.

Also if any of the questions I've posed have been answered already, I'd love to see, if you can post it!!

The DC penalty won't be deleted so there's no reason why people would DC more. If anything, people who DC out of spite to annoy the killer (or their teammates) would have more to lose by being replaced by a bot who does its job so it's possible they wouldn't DC and instead be completely useless.

For example the people who DC to deny Bloodwarden or other perks that activate when hooked are probably going to stop doing it if the bot just gets hooked in their place and it doesn't actually have any impact besides giving them the penalty.

But yeah, if somehow a killer ends up against 4 bots they should be allowed to DC without a penalty.

If 4 survivors DC right at the beginning of the game the killer isn't giving up on anything and if the game is about to end nothing is stopping the killer from finishing it against the bots to get the rewards (and they would still get the 'quitter' BP bonus).

I said that because I have a hard time picturing any other situation where 4 survivors would DC, but I have nothing against the killer being able to keep their BP, challenges & pips if they DC against 4bots.

I doubt you're going to see an increase in DCs with the bots. People who DC now don't care about their team, and they're not suddenly going to have the attitude of 'oh the team will gain a bot, it's all good for me to duck out.' The same people who DC now will still DC in future. They will also still have the penalty applied to their accounts. They're not gonna punish themselves to punish the killer.

I've been playing for a few years and honestly never experienced a game where every survivor DCd unless there was a hacker.

But that's my point, suppose the killer player doesn't want to continue with bots?

Queue up as Nurse LOL; I've had numerous times where I'd blink + hit someone thanks to Lethal Pursuer and they'd instantly DC and then the rest of the survivors will too; maybe 1-2 players will just stay and give up and at that point it isn't even a match LOL.

The only time I see a 4 man DC is when the lobby is 4 solos and the killer is doing a slug until bleedout build with Knock Out. I'd rather that killer that wanted to make the survivors miserable waiting on the floor for 4 mimutes have to stay in the match with bots or have normal DC than be rewarded for that gameplay with free DC and move onto next group of survivors to repeat.

Ok so what about players like me who play as Nurse and don't slug/tunnel/camp but all 3 survivors DC on the first blink/hit? That situation you named is a real scenario but it isn't the only one nor is it the only one that get DC's.

Bots are easy to handle as Nurse but they definitely play better against everyone else as compared to many survivor players.

Why don’t they just improve on bots so they can create killer bots to fill in when a killer disconnects? While it’s nice to get something when a killer d/cs I would still rather play the game and instead I get robbed of it.

It would be funny if the killer and all 4 survivors DC and the bots have their own match where we can all watch LOL.

I'm worried about the new killer etiquette the bots might bring... lots of killers slug the penultimate survivor to deny hatch and secure the 4k, which I find kind of awful for grounded survivor waiting. It feels very dispiriting to be treated like an inconvenience for wanting to play the game.

(In a variation of this it was awful to watch my brother think he was doing really well as the penultimate survivor one time to avoid the killer and watch his face fall as soon as he caught up to my more experienced reading of the game as he realised the killer was treating him as though he was invisible and just kicking the last gen to find the last survivor. One of my worst experiences of this game to watch that reaction. Genuinely awful to feel like the other player is irritated you'd dare to play in the same space as them.)

So will these killers go around and slug the bots to hunt down the last players? Or will they they slug the players and let the bots hook farm each other for the killer's bloodpoint benefit? It's literally no bother to them if the grounded player DCs as it will just add another bot. But the survivor player is once again feeling like a tool rather than a human being if they wait it out.

I also worry the bots could just be used as diving rods if they are programmed to be altruistic etc. for these type of killers to point them to the remaining players? Do bot slugs crawl towards players for help?

Finally I'm not sure how to handle it fairly as killer? At the moment if a player DC's I try to hook the remaining players twice, so we all get experience of chase etc. and then let people go. What do I do now? Like at what point do the players feel like they are being held hostage if there's four gens left etc.?

Right! I hate to say it but I feel this is the beginning of the end cause the way things are looking is bleak but I hope I'm wrong.

If you make the DC penalties longer then survivors will just kill themselves on hook to get the same result and not get the DC penalty.

So what is best, making DCing the better option so atleast the other survivors get that bot and accept that some killers like SM and Knight will just be a custom match every game.

I dont know what is the best option, it's cool that this feature is being placed to improve survivor from DCs and loose the match, but most survivors already just kill themselves on hook to avoid the penalty.

Maybe just remove the DC penalty for everyone Killer and Survivor and notify the killer if all survivors currently on the match are bots and give him the option to just end the match right there with the BPs that you got until that point.

Sounds like the game need a new batch of players cause I fear the player base is harming the game at this point.

  • BlueHorkew
    BlueHorkew Member Posts: 1,081

    Doesn't really matter who plays.

The game creates unfun situations for both sides so getting salty and DCing will happen.

Maybe give everyone some free DCs per day, maybe like 3 free DCs so atleast the system gets used adn doesn't ruin the matches for everyone else.

But even then, i would probably use those Dcs against knight and SM, if i was given that system. Is it fair for those killers, maybe not, but maybe next time bhvr stops releasing killers with anti-fun, passive gameplay.

So idk how to fix the issue or if this is even an issue that needs fixing.

The reason why a player disconnects is usually because there's something about the match they didn't like, and while I will acknowledge some valid reasons to disconnect, those valid reasons are very few and far between.

The bots are there for no other reason than to help lessen the sting from leaving the team high and dry. If a player decides to throw a temper tantrum and disconnect because something didn't go their way, then they've earned their time out.

  • EternalRique
    EternalRique Member Posts: 130

Mixed feelings cause other games don't have that issue; I fear it's the community's mindset, thankfully not ALL of the community but too many are very whiny.

That attitude affects the ENTIRE game cause now it's hard to get new players cause they hear how the DBD community is + it bleeds DBD players who are sick of it too.

  • EternalRique
    EternalRique Member Posts: 130

Exactly! Folk will DC over anything and that isn't a game play flaw but more so a personality flaw.

  • BlueHorkew
    BlueHorkew Member Posts: 1,081

I think the problem might be the nature of an assymetrical game and just how easy it is to create unfun expiriences.

Most games, multiplayer atleast, you have similar amount of strength and power, but that isn't the case in Dbd. No matter how good a survivor is, they won't be able to win if their team doesn't also colaborate.

Plus, it is way too easy to make the game really unfun for the other side with basically no penalties or disadvantages. Pick an easy killer like SM, bring 4 slowdown, map offering and do 3 gen strat. 90% of solos will either give up or just have an horrible expirience. For survivors, you need friends on discord but you can also make killer's blood boil.

People just lack empathy in this game, if you don't care about how the others feel and don't think about the others situations, it just leads to really toxic behaviour.

Maybe it's just the nature of assym games, to be honest Dbd is only one i played, so idk if this is common on other assym games.

I used to never DC until SM released, but after she released and was kinda popular at the start and with her tome, especially since we were still in the overbrine meta at the time. I just got the habit of just not bothering against her, i was and still kinda am really annoyed by that killer just existing and making everyone miserable.

Deja vu and being with friends is the only thing making me consider not just insta Dcing or kill myself on hook against SM.

Thankfully she is way less popular now. And Wesker might be plague right now, but i will take 20 games in row of Wesker, before a single SM match

  • mikewelk
    mikewelk Member Posts: 1,669

That's the best approach, I never had a game where the entire team disconnected so I don't know why it would happen all of a sudden.

  • EternalRique
    EternalRique Member Posts: 130

Play Nurse or Pinhead. It usually work as a domino effect; one will DC then the other 2 and then it's you and one person left, either they find hatch or DC too.

I have over 3,500 hours combined of playing this game and I have only had three survivors DC very rarely. Like everyone seems to say in this forum, if it's rare, don't complain.

So what about if there are 4 bots remaining can the Killer DC or is he forced to finish the match?

  • NerfDHalready
    NerfDHalready Member Posts: 1,749

just learn to enjoy your match against a lobby of bots if you like playing killers, or in a way that will cause every single survivor to dc.

  • Xernoton
    Xernoton Member Posts: 5,846

The killer gets their dc penalty. I guess you can just wait out the match then because there will be no more players left to ruin the game for but it's definitely unnecessary. It won't be common but it will happen. And if I wanted to play against bots, then that's what I would do.

I just hope they will react to it quickly, if it becomes a problem and not wait for half a year to confirm that an issue is actually an issue (like OverBrian).

Usually they give up as soon as one DC. However with bots it may be different.

  • EternalRique
    EternalRique Member Posts: 130

It's not rare for certain killers; especially if you "play good" with said Killer.

  • EternalRique
    EternalRique Member Posts: 130

I also feel it would be more prevalent with SWFs; cause all 4 friends leaving at once is NOT unheard of/that rare.

What about the fact that bots basically have hacks? Honestly, as great an idea on paper as the bots are, that is a major problem with them when it comes to Stealth killers. Undetectable means nothing to them.

In that situation, 3 would leave - the 4th stays to try get the hatch. All 4 leaving seems a bit redundant when hatch is an option.

And obviously I'm talking about currently. I can't see how 4 DCing is not an uncommon thing.

Skull Merchant (not strong but horrible to verse)

She absolutely is strong. Maybe the strongest even, on pubs.

I have admit if I got a game full of DC’s as killer, so it became me vs 4 bots I’d just play it out as normal.

It’s still a game of dbd and having played a few matches with the custom game bots I say their pretty good.

It’s no live player but they do ok. I guess I don’t need there to be a real human on the other side it’s just games are generally more thrilling if there is.

If having dc bots does create some kind of misguided dc culture (moreso than the current misguided dc culture) and inflated the amount of DC’s, the only change I’d like to see is the DC penalty inflated accordingly.

I don’t think much is going change though really. We’ll see.
