Is this the new bot system?

I couldn’t read that it said bot until the end. Does this mean Dwight disconnected and was replaced by a bot or I somehow got a bot in my game from the beginning?

It means a player disconnected and a bot replaced them. There's no mechanic in place for a bot to be in the game from the beginning in public matches.

That’s what I thought, but I didn’t remember seeing the d/c. Does it happen instantaneously?

Yeah it's pretty instantaneous - there's a sound for when it happens in-game, but it's fairly subtle. There's no DC icon - the bot just instantly replaces the disconnecting survivor and the word 'BOT' is next to their name in-game like in the end-game.
