Scourge Hook: Hangman's Trick lingering effect buff

I liked the idea of adding this perk to the list of Scourge Hook perks, and I like it's identity as the Anti Sabotage perk... but this perk still struggles to find any value in the game.

Proposed Changes

Buff: While carrying a Survivor, the Auras of all Survivors within 8/10/12 metres of a Scourge Hook are revealed to you.

Buff: This effect lingers for ~6 seconds after hooking a survivor on a scourge hook.

Current Gameplay Issues

  1. This perk has no inherent reason to use the actual Scourge Hook, so without another Scourge Hook perk, at best it's a weak info perk.
  2. It only works when Scourge Hooks are in range of survivors, and 10m is pretty small. The conservative approach was understandable, but too restrained to be useful.
  3. Sabotage is not a popular strategy outside of full sabo teams, so there isn't a strong reason to care about using a perk to counter it.
  4. While carrying survivors, you're on a time limit to find a hook, and holding on to a carry to look around makes it pretty obvious you have it. Also while actually hooking, your camera is locked staring at the survivors junk. This means you can't really look around as effectively while you have the perk active as you would like.

Intended Effects

This would give a little more coverage to get more consistent value from well/mediocre placed Scourge Hooks (remember 12m means a 24m diameter circle, so pretty big coverage) and has a chance of picking up a survivor moving for the save while the killer can actually look around freely.

It gives an incentive to actually use the Scourge Hook itself, and means there is actual use for the scourge hook with just this perk alone.

While still maintaining its anti sabotage uses, it also doubles up value where survivors camping within a 12m radius for a sneaky unhook, or survivors that have been lingering nearby for body blocks, flashy saves, etc have their aura revealed to the killer for a time.

    @UndeddJester Lingering aura is a nice effect to add and would give current HT at least 'more' use. But I would even go one step further and make it a mix of yours and old HT.

    - While carrying a Survivor reveal auras of all survivors within an 8m/10m/12m distance of Scourge Hook. Effects linger for 6 seconds after dropping or hooking a survivor.

    - When a Survivor is sacrificed on a Scourge Hook, that Hook rebuilds after 15 seconds.

    15 seconds seems a little fast, it may as well be instant.

    I would make it at least 60 seconds. You are after all regaining a Scourge hook, it's not just any hook it's a valuable perk resource that should be depleted. This would basically be the Undying of Scourge perks.

    Alternatively... actually make it a 'trick'. Have it in line with other Pig perks as being a 'game' the survivor chooses to play. In addition to the auras revealed 12m around a Scourge Hook, if a survivor does successfully sabotage a Scourge Hook while you're carrying someone, that survivor has their aura revealed for around 30-45 seconds.

    @Seraphor honestly I wouldn't be opposed to it having multiple affects, including yours on top of the ones me and the OP mentioned, Lord knows survivor perks are stacked with numerous affects to them lol

    The reason I used 15 seconds as the idea was because that was the original number value at tier 3 of the original HT. But you're actually probably right there, because Scourges are supposed to be strong perks, 45 or 60 seconds for it to rebuild is a more safer number to go with.

    hangman trick was like 10 second to repair a broken hook and still nobody used it. it is already been tested to be very bad perk with a pointless effect.

    I still don't feel like this version is worth using because BBQ exists. If i want to fill in gap of BBQ, I would just run wesker's awaken awareness perk which reveals survivors within 20 meters of carrying distance. most of the time where your carrying a survivor, you want to hook them.

    this perk almost encourages opposite. it encourages picking up the survivor, looking around and dropping them. it is like slugging perk but there exists a perk that does that job better. Infectious fright. While infectious fright does not work map-wide, if a survivor is 50+ meters and you see them, you cannot do anything with that information for the majority of killers.

    I cannot speak for other killers, but my suggestion for me to use this perk would be to make perk work all the time. Aura's of survivors are revealed in 8/9/10 meter radius when near a scourge hook. that would be unique effect that other aura perks cannot replace.

    If it was up to me, to buff the mediocre perk, only used to specifically target any Survivors running Sabotaging/ full sabo squad builds; maybe Buff the perk so that the perk lingers longer agaisnt those specifically players whom run it. It adds abit of risk to those players, if they killer happens to run this perk specifically to fight them. And maybe a 2nd Benefit, outside of Sabotaging, like it consumed the toolbox completely once used for Sabotaging successful. (Like if a survivor was originally using a multi charge addon toolbox, for gen rushing build; and they decided to be careless and Sabotaging a hook, because they have tons of charges to waste and they can used the remaining for the gen; the new Buff for Hangman's trick would be like... screw you, you can lose all of your charges on your toolbox as a result of only Sabotaging one hook.

    Good shout regarding Awaken Awareness, currently the superior version of Hangman's Trick. I'd forgotten about that perk, but this change was gonna try and get away from being a carry centric perk.

    Not sure I agree this version is still weak. The big issue I see with Hangman's myself is that even if you spot someone with it, you have to remember where they are and where they are going, then look away as you hook and turn back to them, now with no info. So you've wasted at least 2 seconds of the value revealing their aura got you.

    Interesting you call out BBQ and Chilli, one consideration I had was to actually have SH:HT be like a reverse version of B&C.

    Buff: On hooking a survivor on a scourge hook, reveals all survivors withing a 32m of the scourge hook for ~6s.

    That will show you anyone nearby, rather than far away... but as that is less common... I figured it would still need something, but also thought stacking the linger effect and this might be too much... especially if you put B&C on for basically omnipotence for 6 sxD

    Getting SH:HT up to the very tippy top of the meta isn't really my goal... but a permanent aura around the hook would start to cross into busted territory 😅

    I like a lot of the ideas here, but this sabotague game idea is pretty cool 😎
