Attempt escape removal

I'm calling it, between now and next summer we're gonna lose the ability to attempt escape on hook.

With the recent extension of the DC penalty and the DC penalty now allegedly giving afk players a ban (I only say allegedly because I haven't experienced this but have seen people say it's the case), the number of hook suicides is at an all time high because no one wants a ban.

I'm calling it, we lose this ability by next summer, if not Christmas

why not buff it and make it 8% base?

    wanna bet on it?

Because hooks are insane pressure. They force a survivor to get off gens and save a teammate. The more consistent you make self-unhooks (especially with luck offerings and perks) you could basically remove one of the killers biggest pressures. Same of why basekit unbreakable isnt happening. Sometimes you need to slug to create pressure.

What will they do for the 2nd stage?

The 4% isn't going anywhere, anytime soon. It would require too many things to be reworked. That would take a bunch of time.

Honestly (if i had to) id make it still skillchecks but not instant kill you after you fail two of them. Say each failure takes off 4 seconds. If the teammates are fast enough they can still get them off before theyd die to it. (But im not hard of the opinion forcing people to play a match. They will always do something to throw even if you removed all the mechanics to prevent them from eliminating themselves early. Theyd just afk)

This. If they chose to remove that mechanic, then they'd have to change so much as well. Several perks, challenges, achievements/trophies, luck, etc

I dunno. I murdered an AFK player just a game or two ago. They didn't turn into a bot (not that they were alive for terribly long, though).

I don’t think so. At most I’d think they make people that die on Hook more likely to queue with others that leave the game/afk.

i’d go so far as to doing this

    • there are no longer skill checks that pop up in the second phase of an on-going sacrifice. meaning that you can’t deplete the bar manually by failing skill checks so you can’t automatically k!ll yourself on hook
    • survivors now have a similar AFK penalty for killers. if the player goes afk for the entire match, at the end of the match they get 0 points and looks like they DC’d. If a survivor is AFK after they got unhooked (no timer needed) then the game doesn’t give them points and makes it look like they DC’d.

if you want to give up because your a failure, then shame on you. at least make it 10x harder and time consuming to do so, and make it unworthy of doing it anyway.

I probably wouldn't mind if they'd fix MMR and matchmaking, but they've yet to admit that it's completely broken for some players.

    I hope so

Self unhooking is a pretty pointless mechanic. It's mostly used just to soft DC and circumvent the DC penalty.

So many times i see a surv try to self unhook 3 times then miss 2 skill checks and unalive themselves on their first hook, even when they are first caught.

Self unhook perks and offerings are universally bad except for deliverance.

You’ve got time to spectate that but none to spare saving them, huh?

Oh I prevent these attempts as often as I can when I'm playing surv. But sometimes you're on the other side of the map or in chase. And I play killer a lot too, like I actively haul ass away from hook unless I know someone is nearby.

Would change little. There will always be a way around it, or it will make the game worse for the remaining survivors (the "saved" player throws all the pallets on the map, follows the unhooker while sprinting/fast vaulting everywhere to alert the killer, AFKs in front of one of the gate control panels, runs to the killer to get downed/hooked again, etc.).

BHVR has already stated they have no intention of forcing a player to remain in a trial. Realistically it's because it would cause even more negative feedback for them and in a way that would hurt their image more than balance/bug complaints, and could ultimately cause a percentage of players to quit the game (cutting into their DLC/cosmetic profits).

BHVR has already trained much of the player base to be willing to put up with a lot of negativity and game issues. I mean obviously most people are just going to come to the discussion boards and complain about hook suicides/DCs/other game problems and not actually quit the game/stop forking over cash for junk.

I really wouldn't mind hook unaliving being gone, I think it would be healthy for the game to have it removed. It ruins the match for everyone else and incentivizes the killer to slug for the 4k (assuming they want it badly enough). Plus it also removes the survivor from the match instead of replacing them with a bot.

I feel like attempting to unhook yourself shouldn't even be possible unless you're under the influence of luck perks/offerings or running Deliverance. It's shooting yourself and your team in the foot attempting in most circumstances. New players might think it's something you're just supposed to do since your only other option is to do nothing, and I don't imagine a lot of games have mechanics where doing nothing is the best thing you can do. So it would probably feel very strange to a lot of new players.

The only instance I can think of where attempting to unhook yourself isn't completely detrimental is instances where all four players have been downed quickly and your only hope at that point is either a self unhook or a teammate with Unbreakable. In all other instances I can think of, it's only going to do more harm than good.

And that's without even touching on how most people who attempt to unhook themselves use the mechanic. As a punishment-free disconnect, as mentioned previously in other posts. I've been teamed up with so many people who just kill themselves on their first hook that I'm literally running Up the Ante, Vigo's Jar of Salty Lips, and Reassurance in an attempt to negate this.

But even if you save the person, half of the time they just stand there or run directly at the killer begging to be killed. Most of the time it's a waste of the team's time trying to keep this person from quitting because that person's already made up their mind and they're going to get themselves out of the game regardless of what you do.

The ability to attempt unhooking yourself has always been an option that typically hurt more than helped a team, but it's even worse now given that's how people disconnect. So I honestly feel like unless you're running Deliverance, it just shouldn't be an option. I'd say luck offerings should enable the ability, too, but then everyone would probably just use a Chalk Pouch offering to have the option of abandoning the game, which would bring us back to where we started, basically.

I wouldn't be surprised if when we get the ability to unhook ourselves against camping killers, we lose the ability to do it by chance.

Good, giving people the ability to remove themself from the match instead of taking the DC penalty is BS. I report everyone who hook suicides.

I don't think so considering the amount of stuff to be reworked. Besides, if people want out, they'll leave one way or the other
