Changing the way I have fun till further notice
Let me preface this by stating I am very fond of this game. I have spent a large amount of money on it. I have spent into the 4 digits in terms of hours logged on this game. I have gotten numerous friends to not only play this game, but spend their money on it as well. I very much enjoy this game, at times. However, lately, this game has become increasingly frustrating and the developers do nothing about it. I am not here to start another killer vs survivor thread battle. Objectively speaking, this game is far more balanced than people give it credit. Of course it has it's issues. Give me an online PvP game that does not have some sort of balancing issue. I am a survivor main by far and even I can say certain things killers have/can do are just outright fair. Some, if not most killers, could be buffed. Such as a perk like Hex: Ruin could use a buff. Killers such as Trapper and The Shape could use buffs. Not going to name every single killer and every single perk (both survivor and killer) that need rebalancing. That has been discussed ad nauseam and Behaviour either does not care or they are extremely slow at implementing change. I am willing to accept the latter as someone who has played since near the beginning, many things have changed.
Into the issue that has caused me to post for the first time.
Tunneling needs to be addressed. I do not want to hear the "run decisive, run off the record, run this, run that...". Does not address the issue. The absurdity that the killer community is being actively coached by all the big content creators to tunnel out a guy as quick as possible is asinine. Let's spotlight how much "fun" this is. It takes on average 2-4 minutes to get into a lobby and load into a game. Then, very frequently, tunneled out and dead in less than 4 minutes. Taking into consideration solo queue, this is roughly between 33% - 50% of the time playing lobby simulator. How very fun that is. Taking into account the fact (I have no actual data to reflect this, just assuming based of the principle of only 1 way to solo queue and 3 ways to play with friends. That being duos, trios, or quads) most people likely play with a minimum of 1 friend, the percentage of lobby simulator drastically increases. Obviously the math below is not going to reflect every situation.
Let's assume that a match typically lasts anywhere between 10-15 minutes. Given the math already done above, that is 6-11 minutes for the remaining 3 survivors to play the game. I will assume the role of being tunneled out and am now sitting watching and waiting for my friend(s) to die or escape. That means I have gotten to play a total of 4 minutes on average out of a total 10 - 15 (match time) + 2 - 4 (time taken to get into a match). This means I am playing 4 minutes out of a potential 12 - 19 minutes it takes to conduct a single match. This gives the percentage of time I am spent just sitting there twiddling my thumbs of 66% - 79%. This means my amount in game playing time per match is only 21% - 33%. I cannot be the only one who sees a problem with this.
I by no means am insinuating that the only way to have fun as a survivor is to win. I have fun by playing the game. Getting a gen done, unhooking a survivor, cleansing a totem, engaging in a couple of chases with the killer. If I die but have gotten to actually play the game, no issues. I am not the type of player that needs to win in order to have fun. Part of the fun in this game is being caught by the killer. If I never got caught by the killer, that wouldn't be very fun. I merely just want to play the darn game. Win or lose does not determine the amount of fun I have. It is the time actually spent in a game that derives the fun. Prorating the math above over an hours game play would mean I am only playing an average of 12.6 - 19.8 minutes (21% - 33% x 60 minutes). Absolutely ridiculous that this is not an off occurrence, but I would argue is the frequent situation. Prorate that over a span of say, 1000 hours. The amount of time playing would be 210 - 330 hours, and 670 - 790 hours either watching or loading into a game. Absolutely preposterous.
Now to the initiative I have started and will be maintaining until I see change. Spoiler, this is going to get a lot of people upset.
Considering all things above, I have altered how I have fun in this game. Since there is no set rules enforced by the developers, other than hacking the software, it is up to the interpretation of the individual to have/create their own fun. The developers added bots into the game on DC in an attempt to fix the issue of the game immediately becoming a 3v1 and it being unbalance. Kind of weird how that is identified as an issue but the encouraged tactic of hook 1 player 3 times before chasing anyone else isn't. While adding bots on DC is beneficial in some aspects, it has not solved all problems. My typical experience when someone DC's is that the rest of the group gives up because the bot sucks. Now that is a separate issue, one that I truthfully don't care to put much time into evaluating. Bot skill level too high, killers will have an issue. Bot skill level too low, survivors will have an issue. Again, this comes down to a balancing issue that I am choosing to believe Behavoiur will work on, even if it will be slowly.
Since bots are now replacing people who DC, remove the DC penalty for survivors. I understand the notion of not wanting to reward someone for DC'ing. However, where is the penalty for a killer holding a survivor hostage in a game? If it is a match that I do not want to play in, I should be able to express the right to move onto the next match. For a time, killers accepted this. Whether it be a bot being the issue or the killer itself (more on this later), when running towards a killer they should just kill me. Not slug me on the ground and wait till I either bleed out or refuse to hook me and end up giving me hatch. It appears to me that the majority of killers only have fun when they kill someone, always striving for the 4K. So just kill me. If the chase/hunt aspect of the game is not what you are after, just kill me. Stop wasting my time. If the chase/hunt aspect of the game is what appealed to more killers, I have to believe the encouraged strategy of tunnel 1 survivor out as fast as possible would not be the go to. For reference, whenever I play killer it is not the killing that entertains me. How much fun is it really to pick up a survivor on the ground and walk over to a hook? Rather, it is the chase/hunt itself that brings enjoyment. Using whatever killer I have chosen (sidebar, I really love playing The Shape, Ghostface, The Pig, The Hague, The Trapper, and The Wraith. I am a big stealth killer guy. I own all the DLC's, but I have not played all the killers at this time. As previously stated, I main survivor) and using their power is what is fun. Scaring the crap out of survivors by sneaking up on them or tactically placing bear traps while engaging in the hunt for a survivor is where I get my pleasure as a killer. I honestly do not see how the process of killing survivors is fun in any way. If I could get a 8 hook game (2 per survivor) and all 4 get away, I am happy. I got to play the game and I got to, most likely, engage in a lot of fun chases with my killer's specific power. As stated previously, the act of winning is not what determines my enjoyment. It is the journey along the way. Of course I have fun when I kill all the survivors, but that is not what determines it. However, if I had to tunnel a survivor out, I honestly did not have fun that game because it feels like I am exploiting the game.
Now onto what I am doing to have fun now. As a rule, if you are playing Wesker or Skull Merchant I am running around and dropping all the pallets until you kill me. I tried to be nice and just follow the killer in hopes of them killing me immediately. However, some killers have taken to just slugging me on the ground. I cannot do anything about this. I am playing this game to have fun and those 2 specific killers I mentioned simply are not fun to play against. If you will not allow me to move onto my next game, then my next goal is to force you to kill me. This brings me enjoyment. I am tired of the community telling me that killers aren't their to make the game fun for a survivor. You are absolutely right. That coin has two sides. I am not there to make ANYONE ELSE'S game fun. I am there for myself to have fun. Call me entitled all you want, but I am merely exercising the same right to enjoy a game that I am a paying customer for. I am breaking no rules.
Skull Merchant I have tried and I am done trying. It ends the same way every single time. Gen patrol and make the match last an unbearable amount of time. I do not care to try. I will not have the mindset of "maybe this time it will be different" because every single time it ends the same way.
Wesker. The fact that Wesker can miss his double dash and still just catch up to me is crazy. Give him a fatigue similar to Nurse or something! My personal record for most times played against Wesker in a row is 5. 5! I honestly do not recall ever playing a killer more than twice in a row. Maybe 3 when the roster was much smaller, and I have been around near the beginning. I understand people love Wesker and want to play him. Cool, I don't mind playing a Wesker here and there. When I log on and play 7 matches and 4 are Wesker, it is redundant. Part of the fun of this game is that it has such a diverse amount of killers. Always having to adapt and change how to play the game based on the killer is exhilarating. Such as not knowing your up against a Hag, Ghostface, or Michael. I personally have nearly made a mess in my pants due to Hag and Michael. I have no suggestions on how to make killers chose someone other than Wesker, as they are a paying customer and are entitled to play who they want. But it is ridiculous that this game has become Dead by Wesker. Perhaps implement a similar screening on maps to killers. Since killers are chosen prior to entering a lobby, make the match making not pair you up against a killer that you have played recently.
My new method of having fun is catching on. I currently have a discord of 100+ people that are now taking part in the strategy. This number is growing by the day. I cannot wait till we hit 1000. For every killer main who is going to respond, I simply do not care. Either kill me immediately or I will proceed to do what makes me have fun that match.
In conclusion, get rid of the DC penalty now that bots are there. As well as fix Skull Merchant. Simply not fun to play against. Nothing more needs to be said, there are enough community posts on how this killer is not fun. Fix the fact that this game is no longer Dead by Daylight and has become more Dead by Wesker than anything. If that means giving him a slight nerf by making him have a fatigue for missing his dashes, then so be it. I do not see why that is an unreasonable request. If that means implementing a match making screening to pair up survivors with a killer they have not played within the last, say 3 matches, then so be it.

If aspects of the game are causing you to throw a fit mid match, go play something else.
8 -
Why? I am having fun doing what I am doing. Clearly you did not read what I said. But thank you for your input.

I read what you wrote. It just boils down to throwing a fit, because the game didn't play out the exact way you wanted.
Instead of getting yourself worked up over DBD matches, just play something else.

I love how you think you're using this strategy "solely against" SM, Weskers & tunnelers as if it wasn't much more detrimental to your teammates than to the killers. You're literally making the game easier for those killers by giving up and making it much more difficult for random people by wasting their ressources on top of refusing to participate in normal gameplay (which is reportable btw) and refusing to take the DC penalty and let them have a bot (as terrible as they are, I'd much rather play with them than people like you).

While I can definitely see where you are coming from in terms of tunneling and having issues with SM and Wesker, this game has had said issues that you have discussed for several years now and seem to just be a part of the game since the dev team considers it viable and if they think that we have no choice but to oblige. It's not fun to play the game for 30 seconds with no chance to actually achieve anything but RNG is also a huge part of dbd. Have you considered tcm? It's not the same at all but it is something different you can try out to still get your rush of playing hide and seek but may find it more of a casual enjoyment

You are reluctant to do something that would be more beneficial for yourself though.
The way people the game isn't currently isn't fun to you, but the way you've decided to address that is to play in a way that is actively damaging to the others who are on your team in much the same way as getting tunneled out by a killer. You are rather than removing yourself from the problem just becoming a another facet of the problem that is hindering you from having fun. So now, you in a bid to take back your fun have harmed other people's fun and seem to be growing a community of like minded people who will also go and harm other people's fun. Which will in turn just make the original situation that you find fun worse.
The best option considering how you have expressed your feelings and thought process in your posts would be to take a break from the game. Literally, do anything else other than play the game for a while so you can reset yourself and not have to deal with not having fun or making fun on bad terms for yourself and others. Yes, you've invested a lot of hours and love this game, but anything you have done for that long that consistently will have multiplied effect on your emotional and mental state when it stops being fun. Doesn't matter what makes it unfun you and it doesn't matter how much you seek to regain control of that fun you used to have. At some point you need to step back and take a break to let the game sort itself out.
Do not make DBD your only or even primary interest if you have 4 digit amounts of hours into already. Your current strategy isn't going remain fun for the length of time you've already invested. You're gonna burnout and end up quitting the game entirely which will the worst case outcome. You're not the first to take this exact same approach most of the people who came to forums to post doing exactly word for word what you're doing that didn't just take a break from the game for a while ended posting about how they are permanently quitting the game. Let it go, take a break, play something that is the furthest away from DBD that you enjoy and come back in a few months or a year.
You will be happier in the long run. Trust me.

Me and my friends tried TCM and we honestly are not big fans of it. We also dabble with Friday the 13th, but I am not a fan of that either.

How about you and your hundreds of friends play some KYF?
with so many people you should have enough variety and you can stay in your little bubble and play by your own rules.
this way, everyone on your discord can be happy and you guys do not affect the rest of the playerbase in a negative way.
3 -
The fact is if you are consistently finding yourself not having fun and getting angry with the game, continuing to play the game will not help you. The best thing you can do is take a break and come back later.
There's far too many players forcing themselves to engage in an activity they are not currently enjoying which is only wasting their own time when it could be better suited doing anything else.

hard to get bloodpoints in private match, otherwise i would agree. If me and my friends never had to play a public match again we wouldnt.
Once again, another person ignoring the math above pointing out that in game time versus time spent loading/searching/watching is a real issue.

You don't need bloodpoints in customs since you have access to everything with no cost.
4 -
yeah, you are right. What about iridescent shards? what about rift fragments?

I know that by doing nothing and saying nothing, nothing gets done. Only by voicing our opinions will something get done. No more entitled to you are bud. Thanks for the response lol.

than you are*

In KYF you don’t need bloodpoints, you also have no lobby time, no waiting around, no killers dodging. And if someone dies, they can hop straight into the next KYF lobby, shouldn’t be a problem with hundreds of people. Sounds just perfect.
0 -
again, what about rift fragments and iridescent shards? I agree, customs make bloodpoints irrelevant
1 -
why why do you need rift fragments or iri shards when you can play the way you want and be happy? Cosmetics? What for, nobody else except your discord can see you. Or just spend some bucks, seems like a small price for finally finding peace.
no more stress, no more anger, no more 3-gen skull merchants, no more weskers, no more tunnelling. Just embrace the paradise of KYF and everyone, your discord and the people outside will be happy.

definition of entitlement:
noun
- the fact of having a right to something.
- the amount to which a person has a right.
- the belief that one is inherently deserving of privileges or special treatment.
I said I am no more entitled than you are. You have the exact same rights to play this game that I do. I never stated I should have any more right than another. By definition, we are all entitled. To which degree is what is up for debate. Under these circumstances, I am not asking for anything more or less than whatever one else wants. To play the game. I want a ratio where people are in the game more than they are watching/searching/loading.

a couple bucks for you may not mean much. But do not assume the financial situations of everyone in the community.

also, I have personally used my iridescent shards to procure a lot of DLC

Closing this up here, with a reminder to keep discussions civil, and to be mindful regarding the admission or promotion of Unsportsmanlike Conduct.
And as it has been stated already, the DC penalty is there because purposefully leaving the game over something disliked is still breaking the rules, as noted in Unsportsmanlike Conduct; being replaced by a bot doesn't change that. And the DC penalties start small for thing like IRL emergencies, game-breaking issues (i.e. being fused into an object and unable to move/play, etc), Internet or power disruption, or hardware issue, and increase as the DCs become more frequent.
And Unsportsmanlike Conduct could also be throwing the match for your team, as noted under our rules on Greifing. If reported for Griefing (and often, especially), this will be reviewed by the ACMs and actions potentially taken. If you wish to review the Game Rules, you can find em here: https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/kb/articles/139-game-rules
