I hope I never play killer, the experience is so disgusting

The words I can describe my killer experience are, meaningless, annoying, frustrating, low...

It's lonely, and hard to progress, with no teacher guide and 0 positive feedback. I feel like a naturally lower survive player. Why do Survives get all those OP perks?

Even when I uninstall the game, the experience still annoys me, I have to get it out of my mind, I wish I never touched this game

I mean...yeah. I remember being a newer killer and it was just constant frustration game after game not understanding how to outplay a lot of common survivor perks and items. I've uninstalled DBD like 3 times due to it but the last time was over a year ago. It does actually get better, like yes even the top tier killers get frustrating games form time to time but it happens far less often and the game will actually make sense eventually.

It is true there's not really anything in game that explains killer to you, the tutorial is just awful. But there's lots of resources online to tap into and knowledge can go a long way towards understanding how to win, the rest is just practice which will be painful at times there's not way around it but you can get there if you put the time in.

Playing killer takes time and patience to get the hang of and the game is terrible at truly onboarding past the general functionality.

Youtube will become your go to place to find guides and tutorials for playing killers.

Until you truly get comfortable in the role you're most likely going to need to play with meta perks which can be a pain to get.

To get good at killer, play survivor.

As you play more survivor and see what other killers do you'll start to see where you can make adjustments. Play in custom games against bots (less tea-bagging) and as stated earlier, pick a killer you like and go to Youtube and watch videos on that killer. It does eventually get better.

It's actually crazy how many people on the forum just don't know how to go to youtube.

Maybe. But I went from unknowing to completely apathetic to nicer than the vast majority, I feel that is common once people reach a certain point on killer.

I think Survivors now have bit stronger perks than Killers in terms of meta power level, however that doesn't mean Killer perks sucks, there are still few ones that are pretty good (but majority aren't S tier anymore).

Sounds like you're still relatively new to the killer role. Don't worry, we've all been there.

If you decide to give it another shot I suggest you start with Wraith. He is a very good killer for beginners and you can learn a lot from just playing and observing survivors. There are also many content creators that you can learn from. Most notably Otzdarva.

Starting as new player in this game is pretty rough. Especially with all the perks, maps, items addons and offerings that you need to learn. But give it a bit of time and you'll get a lot better.

Fun is the most important reward of any game. And like I said, there isn't much reward. I'd love to play more casually, run more funny perks and builds, but I feel like I'm punished for taking a single step outside of the meta if I try. And I don't find the meta very enjoyable. Not to mention people's rotten attitudes bringing the whole experience down.

Drop the silly meta already! You realize it's not fun, you realize fun is the most important, so how exactly are you punished when you play with fun stuff you enjoy?

I got 7 sacrifices across the 2 killer games I played last night using random perks both times

This doesn't sound like an experienced player having issues with OP perks. This sounds like an inexperienced player who has no idea how killer mechanics work because the game does a terrible job at explaining it, through it's mediocre tutorial system.

Also, you say this like killers aren't constantly complaining about perks. Don't punch boulders in a glass volcano.

I get destroyed in 5 minutes, barely get to play the game, and therefore have very little enjoyment.

kind of sounds like a broken record at this point, but I highly recommend Otzdarva's YouTube channel if you want killer tips. Learning from him got me to iri 1 (back when that mattered a little bit more than it does now) and I can actually see the improvement between a game recorded last year, say, and a game recorded yesterday. He's great!

The killer side starting out is an absolute beating with very few pauses in between. Do not play for kills, if you hook someone three times then kudos, you Should be playing for chases. The more you get "looped" the better you get, you'll slowly learn the survivor trends like the fake vaults, when they will greed a pallet, body blocking, where they like to huddle on certain maps etc. DBD is a learning intensive game on both sides, with killer imo being harder because you just have yourself to depend on. It tooke about 200 hours to fully grasp my main killers ability and to start to use it effectively. Your not gonna be pulling 4ks every single match starting out and you will get stomped. Just ignore all the bad manners and don't worry about being bad your gonna be bad it's inevitable everyone was bad at one point. If you want to main a specific killer let me know and I'll help you out anyway I can. I'm a 95% killer main by the way.

As a new player late to the game, before I even touched the game I spent about 2 weeks watching videos by Otzdarva, Spookyloopz, Scorpions, Kyto and Rowby on YouTube to learn the basics of killer so I could hit the ground running, and actually I feel like I picked the killer game up pretty fast and started doing well immediately.

The main tips that I think every new killer needs in order to get going are: -

    • Learn to face walls when you pick up survivors or if not possible, ensure you punish anyone nearby for waiting nearby for saves.
    • Understand what a 3 gen is and why it's valuable (this made me instantly better).
    • Learn to hide your red light when looping by turning away but keeping going.
    • Pick a single killer and learn as much about their specific power, addons, and nuances of that killer as you can (e.g. Strafe on Nemesis tentacle whips is game changing, dropping traps in front of dropped pallets during chase on Trapper, the 3 search average and don't chase survivors with bear traps on as Pig).
    • Understand the prestige and perk share system. Look at build guides to get a rough idea what perks you want to aim for on your chosen killer.
    • Most importantly, don't chase the survivor that wants you to chase them. If you take 30s to 40s and still haven't gotten a hit, ignore that survivor and go for someone else.

It's a tough road still, but understanding these ideas before I started made me immediately start doing well and having fun on killer... it's a lot of information to get across though... the trickle be getting it across in a way that doesn't overwhelm or bore people...

Reminds me of a twitter comment from a japanese dbd player the other day.

It was something like “Everyone talks about the experience of new Survivor players, but no one talks about the experience of new Killer players.”

I’ll say that insight is spot on.

    Conspiracy theory: matchmaking works

Your mmr is calibrated to full-meta sweating, so naturally you face teams who leave in 5 minutes. Play causally with perks you enjoy, and you'll start to face teams who do gens in 10 minutes. Just don't stomp them too hard, or you'll find yourself back when you started.

Also don't tell the method of accessing the casual queue to anyone, this is secret!

I feel that way about playing survivor most the time. If I have a bad game as killer, I can at least recognize that my own gameplay and choices were at least significantly responsible. When I play as survivor and have a bad game it is far more frustrating knowing that so many things were beyond my control.

It really doesn't work. In fact, it seems more like the more I lose, the stronger players I'm matched against, and this goes for both killer and survivor.

What I do is every few games as survivor I try,and toss in a killer game with a killer I find fun with. Like huntress I recently had a game where I was called a lot of names, and said I sucked at huntress. I got two kills that game. I'm not the best I'm not good at any killer yet. I have finally got to a point were I can load up a game, and not feel pressured, or afraid of just being in a killer role. They called me names, but I'm still gonna play huntress. I use to care what they said, and let it effect me.

My advice to new killers is this. Don't try to get good with any killer, at least not for a good while. Pick a killer that you find fun to play as no matter how bad you are with them, and every match focus on just being comfortable in the killer role itself. Learning a killer is easier once you are use to being in a killer role cause it's a lot different from a survivor. I would avoid the people saying play survivor you will some how get better at killer. This advice doesn't do nothing. I have 1,200 hours as survivor before I touched killer it didn't help. Just try to get use to the role is my advice.

I play killer/solo q equally I just don't see it, killer is less frustrating even in bad games you can at least play until the end, farm some points and get better, nothing will happen if 3-4 people escape, only thing I don't like are flashlights and you can negate it with a perk

objectively being on the receiving end of tunnel/camp is worse, you get no points, no rewards, no help from your team in solo q, waste of time at all levels
