The Rank System

What is the point of the rank system because it’s not competitive or skill based. which it should be cause if i’m in high ranks why am I getting players that are not on my level . Is it so it can be balanced ? cause right I just feel like the rank is just there at this point. Even if i’m in iri my teammates will still be what feels like rookies, or just not good at all.

It used to have a point, it used to be how matchmaking was determined before hockey-based matchmaking took over. Now it's just a measure of how much you played in the month and determines how much bonus BP you get once a month.

    Bloodpoints.

    That's literally it.

Not a fan of it myself, just encourages players to sweat hard and has no other benefits.

Personally, I think it's more of an indication of skill than some players think. I know I'll never get to Iri 1 survivor (4 is my limit) and I had to sweat really hard to get to Iri 1 with killer (as well as cheese the system by playing killers I don't use very often. I'm never sweating that hard ever again).

Nobody can see it except you, so nobody will ever know if you're at Iri 1 or not anyway. So why sweat to get there? To me it's more a source of frustration than anything else. The amount of times I've made it to 4 pips at the Gold ranks only to lose them all in the next 4 games... Not fun. Getting de-pipped for anything other than a DC shoudn't be a thing.

It still baffles me that people still don't all understand what grades are and that mmr exists xD Isn't it like over a year now since they implemented mmr? ^^

Grades are just a measure how much you play and how often you win between the 13th of every month, after which the grades get reset. They are only used to determine a bloodpoint reward at the end of the cycle as an incentive.

Matchmaking is supposed to use an invisible ELO system.

But due to imbalanced population of skill levels on both sides, queue times increased and people complained about that. So the devs implemented mechanics into the matchmaking that soften the matching parameter with increasing queue duration.

In other words matchmaking was made horrible for faster queues. Lobby dodging and backfill also made it worse.

Pretty much that + there is somewhat of a soft cap at around 1600 or 1700 or something like that? And after you reach that you can basically get matched with anyone above. They even lowered it for more killervariety, because if you make it higher there are only that many killers that can consitently win against even better survivor and they were at that point: Nurse, Spirit and Blight.

Also matchmaking only counts escapes or kills, nothing else, so you can be the best looper in the game if you die you lost. It counts each survivor as a seperate matter so you basically play 4 games as killer at once since you play seperate against each survivor with those two possible relevant outcomes of died or escaped. Hatch does not count at all. Also if your queue time reaches a certain amount you are basically guaranteed to get whatever team there is currently in queue same goes for backfilling when one person left the matchmaking will just basically add anyone to make the game happen faster.

The matchmaking really is not much if any better than the old rank system. But ranks/grades are irrelevant for matchmaking now.

Hope this helped you. If you want more information there are videos on youtube where people explain it in ore depth, because some data miners basically figured the whole thing out. E.G. ScottJund did a informative video on what got found out and linked the guy who the information of the data miners first hand.

Also yes, because it is rather hard to measure skill in this game in a way that makes it possible for an mmr system to give rankings accordingly...

Honestly, for me it is the opposite. Ever since Grades were introduced I was never Iri 1 on either side because I just dont care enough. For what? Nobody sees it, it has 0 purpose for Matchmaking and all I get is BPs at the 13th each month. Before that I was Rank 1 every month, simply because it meant something. (And back then when Rank Reset set you back to Rank 10 or 11 it actually meant something and you had good matches for the first ~3 weeks after Rank Reset)

But now with grades, I really dont care about reaching Iri 1.

People have different experiences with whether MMR works depending on your region, time of day, and how long you've been playing. I generally find it works okay for me as a soloq survivor, as a killer I can feel which of my killers is at higher MMR.

I'm the same, when I started dbd last august, the first few months I proper sweated my grades. But it wasn't a pleasant experience, I was working so hard in matches and especially as killer I was using every dirty trick and stressing to secure those 4ks to get my pips. After hitting iri 1 for both roles in a month I figured best just to stop caring about rank and just play for fun. Enjoy the game much more for it.

But there are a lot more ppl who do care about getting their grade every month and will play hard to get it. Just wish we had a casual playlist to wind down a little.
