Everyone leaving DBD!?!
Listen I've made a lot of negative comments about the state of DBD. But I've noticed that a lot of streamers recently (and friends) have quit DBD. I have friends with 10k+ hours that's quitting now and like the game just isn't that enjoyable anymore.
I don't know about yall opinions but even back in the days with infinites, stretched res, dead hard the game was more enjoyable. Killer is just way too easy now I mean I play without perks and win basically all my matches. SoloQ isn't fun either you lose matches due to bad teammates. My point is the game doesn't need to be super balanced. It isn't a competitive game and while I agree that infinites and that shouldn't be a thing I still found it more enjoyable playing against meta builds back in 2017 - 2020 and losing than I do now when I'm winning basically EVERY SINGLE MATCH.
I don't care if you agree with my opinion or not, but if you have played DBD for a while did you find it more enjoyable back then? How important is balancing? and do you think that its possible to have fun on both sides while one side is arguably better/easier?

I still play but my amount of play has significantly cut back
Part of that is due to...well...life but part of it is that the game is just not quite the same. I can't even really put my finger on why but my interest in the game lately has been dropping. Maybe the issues with the game are finally catching up to me or maybe after 3+ years of playing, it's bound to feel samey and repetitive eventually but my interest is slowly but surely dropping.

Killer is definitely too easy now. MMR and balancing for very high efficient survivor play has really destroyed the game. There's no turning back because BHVR seems too stubborn to think this is a perfect symmetrical balanced game about skill.
I think the biggest issue is instead of asking killers to get better at the game and accepting the statistics for what it was, they constantly nerf survivors to compensate.
People are definitely leaving. Every metric says so.

I don’t think the state of the game back then was that much better and if it stayed the way it was the game would have probably already died.
though the game is in need of some actual new content outside of new killers/perks/maps. It has gotten stale.
DbD is very lucky that until now -even though many tried- there has been no actual alternatives yet. It needs to lose its monopoly and hopefully TCSM will have a great impact but I fear it won’t be enough

I didn't play DbD for a week and I am having good time honestly not playing.
However I am more like waiting for mid-chapter with Halloween event.

I haven't played in over two weeks and have been focusing on other things and games. It's been great.
This game just has become an unfun mess. You can't even have a relaxing/chill game most of the time, it's always competitive. It's gets exhausting after a while.

All of my friends quit DBD over a year ago. Some of them had played since the beginning. People can only take being camped, tunneled and slugged for so long before they give up. I couldn't even get them to play it with me for my birthday a few days ago which was something we did for all of our birthdays every year. They just don't care about the game anymore. I find myself playing a lot less than I used to now, and I wonder how much longer I have left in me.

Haven’t played in over a month. No immediate or extreme desire to hop back on anytime soon, either. I’ve taken extended breaks several times over the past 6 years with the passion for returning for that OG feeling I once had years ago, but this time, the feeling’s totally different.
That desirable DBD passion just isn’t there anymore. I’m not getting suckered in again to obsessing over this game

I wouldn't hold my breath when I see last few updates, it's hard to do worse than knight/skull merchant/xenomorph/onryo, it's just modern DbD it was more fun back then but it can't go back

After 7 years it's only natural that some people will leave the game. Eventually you grow tired of the same gameplay over and over again. That however does not mean that the game is in a bad spot.
There have always been people that claimed that killer is way too easy. It's likely you play against bad survivors, if you genuinely feel that way. Against good survivors, playing killer is still immensely difficult. Half the time it's enough for survivors not to actively throw the match to put up a real challenge. And if they play good on top of it, then you're in for a hard match.
Solo queue has never been great. But honestly I don't think it's that bad. Yes, you get the occasional Self-Care + No Mither guy (or something similar) but other than that, it's fine. You can win against most killers without too much effort because most killers aren't all that good either.

I won't claim that I have quit entirely but I definitely don't play as much. I will play maybe 1-2 times a week since Xeno was released. Before I was playing every day. I don't even think it's burnout for me. I just don't like how the game is at the moment. Every game is just too sweaty and it kills my enjoyment of the game. I'd say the majority of my solo queue matches are just sweaty killers trying as hard as possible to speedrun the 4K. Lethal nurses, blights, etc who are trying to end every match at 5 gens. Even when it's not one of these killers the mentality is still the same. Killer zeroes in on worst survivor and tunnels them out. Suddenly the game is over and all my offerings/items were wasted.
After awhile the ultra competitive games get old. I just want to play with people who don't play like their life is on the line. This is definitely related to the MMR system. I get matched with far sweatier players than I did before MMR. Even though I am a solo queue player who doesn't win enough to justify being constantly matched with sweaty Blights. The MMR system should either be deleted entirely or made significantly more strict so that the sweatiest players are kept out of normal matches. I had two people I used to play with and both quit in the last six months because of how sweaty the average match is now. I'd also say the amount of in game toxicity has increased. I am bled out and humped on the ground at least several times per session for no reason. I don't take this personally but I also don't enjoy having my time wasted.

For me, this is a game best enjoyed in bouts. That is to play it every now and again, but do not become embroiled in it. It's easy to be worn down by negative experiences or people.
I've seen a couple of streamers wishing to move on and, alongside game fatigue, I do put it down to being enveloped within the ways some players or streamers are. One streamer said they were leaving DBD, citing the toxicity of the players he would call out played no part, yet their body language gave so many contra-indications to this it was unreal. It would only be speculation as to why they would try to cover this, but when a job is so engrossed in dealing with negativity and lack of variety, it will never not affect people.
For me, the game is still fun, which is mainly down to my approach towards this. Some others become too absorbed, too meticulous, too much buried under the weight of bad experiences that the perception becomes skewed.
Despite all this, BHVR need to look at ways of making this game fresh and addressing the problems within. Not to say it's their fault (because for me the playerbase is the main reason this game would be suffering), but since some of the playerbase will always be too stubborn to change, they're the only ones who can realistically do anything about this.
It's not any major issue overall, but freshness is needed.

Playing killer IS easy relative to playing solo queue. How many SEAL Team Six SWFs really exist out there? Getting four insanely good survivors is far more rare than running into one sweaty killer simply due to how difficult it is to get four great players together on a single team. I am basing this on my own experience playing both roles. My kill rate is more than double my escape rate in solo queue. You say that most killers aren't that good. Neither are most survivors and the odds of getting a bad survivor are much higher. One bad survivor is all it takes for a team to completely collapse. If killer were as difficult as some people make it out to be then none of these ridiculous win streaks people go on would be possible. Even winning 10-20 games in a row would be extremely rare in a game that was well balanced.

This is purely my pov but this might be shared by others. Having played this game consistently for at least 5 years (amount played changed on and off depending on other games out at the time) I can say that Ive seen enough lol. It's a really unbalanced game that people want to make competitive so badly when it's just not built for that. The constant changing of metas, removal of perks and items for no other reason than to appease the vocal minority. It's tiresome. Luckily this year has seen some good releases in my personal interests that I've been playing more and while I still play dbd, it's much less than it was. Getting to the point, this is not the game that should be THE GAME for you (meaning you mainly play this game more than any others you have) as it causes nothing but anger and grief in that regard. I've been enjoying it more lately because I don't play it much and am not bothered by the inconsistencies that appear all the time. Dbd is fun but it's not a game to be taken that seriously as it doesnt have the design or foundation to really be a truly balanced experience.

BHVR can't nerf SWFs , so they are fine to boost kill-rates with solo survivors.
I played only like 10 hours for my last 2 weeks because whenever i touch killer, it's not challange. And playing solo survivor is unfun.
And my friends are not playing DbD sadly , most of them left this game. Most of survivor nerfs are doing nothing to SWF while making solo-q even worse.

Had to stop playing before the Singularity release. I thought I’d miss it more but, surprisingly, I don’t. I don’t miss any of the toxicity from either side. Both roles are in dire need of some spice. New perks won’t help the monotony that plagues the gameplay.
I really only miss Mr Scratched Mirror. Was fun to scare people and watch their clips of them screaming.

I'm going into my SIXTH year with the game.
It's rather upsetting, but I really can't play the game casually with my work schedule. I don't have six hours to devote to get a good match.
It's why I've been playing stuff like TCM or Lies of P.

As I've said, you don't need a SEAL Team Six SWF to beat most killers in this game. I'm pretty bad as a survivor but my solo queue matches are fine. Because I can make up for my lack of looping skills by using my experience in this game and making smart decisions. I have beaten my fair share of sweaty killers too. It really isn't as hard as many people on this forum claim.
How many SEAL Team Six SWFs are there? Are you really trying to tell me, that solo queue survivors die in almost all of their matches and these SWFs decrease the kill rates so much? Good luck with that theory.
The reason why there are some people that can go on such high win streaks is fairly simple. They know every little trick about their killer. They know how to play around every tile and they also know what to look out for and how to adjust. This is a small percentage of players that are probably at the top of the MMR rating with these specific killers. You will find the number of players that are very good with one specific killer is naturally a lot higher than the amount of players that are very good against this specific killer. Because one has a lot more practise than the other.
I did 2 win streaks so far. One on Doctor (37) and one on Hillbilly (19). I am more than happy with these even if the numbers aren't all that impressive. Because all it takes to beat me is a group that plays good overall. Most survivors make the same mistakes. This is why killers learn certain mind games (in slightly different variations) and tricks to counter these. Survivors that learn how to play around that are scary.
If I were to repeat these streaks now, I wouldn't make it that far. Because my own MMR has increased from me sweating so hard and now I play against more survivors that can beat me.

If the devs don'f want to admit an obvious problem, then they're actively reducing traction for the game.

I still see myself playing the game until they themselves decides to discontinue dbd. I have fun. But i dont play on a daily basis. I have a life. And so should streamers. I dont find it healthy if they continue streaming the game for years without a break or playing other games. Nothing wrong with taking a break and coming back later. But thats up to the individual.
The game pretty much has a stable playerbase. And although veterans leave for awhile, new players do come in as well which is the important part. Which is also why they do focus on casual playstyles. Its a drawback for veterans like most of us, but it does help with longevity of the game in the longrun

I'm having a great time these days but playing as a killer has been the weirdest: It is very easy to win quite a few matches with the same build. Then MMR skyrockets and I have matches with zero results. Yes, MMR has always been there, I know, many a discussion thread has been opened about this but recently it's been the strangest.
I have finally plucked up enough courage to close the endgame chat once and for all. I approach every match not competitively but with a very calm attitude. Overall, I enjoy matches better but the winning rate with my killers is strange and I just have no idea what will happen.

Same, My friends quit almost a year ago and I stopped after knight came out because I didn't find him enjoyable to go against. I took a six month break and came back in April after the whole SM surge died down. The game is draining to play solo. Even killer I'd be talking to my friends while we were both in seperate matches. You really notice toxic plays more on your own. Toxic aside the game can just drain you no matter how much money you spend on perks/killers. I'm sorry to hear about you're birthday. This has just happened to me my birthdays next week and they said no. I've only played for a year so not the same as for you but I feel you.

BHVR is pumping out chapter after chapter after chapter.
Quantity over Quality.
You can feel it. It would be very wise to reduce the amount of chapters to 3 and increase Bugfixes and Gameplay-Adjuatments more frequently.
We are waiting for 2 years for the Twins-Changes, we are waiting till... whenever... for the Freddy-Changes.
With every patch new bugs are around the corners.
There is no "hype" for the new chapters because they arrive faster than anything. It should be more special.
For the money: install different things to gain money. Original-Chapters can be bought with shards anyway, so no reason to pump and pump and pump.
Xeno kinda still feels "new", but hey, in 3 weeks we have PTB for the next chapter. Too fast for me. More Midchapters! More QoL! More Perk-Adjustments! More these things.

Veeery long ago I've said something similar.
If you take a closer look, new and old killers are like from different games. Old killers missing a lot of animations like a proper rotating animations (and a lot more), there is a lot of old killers that are desperate for changes.
In short - Update the animations and gameplay for old roaster, fix the bugs related to old stuff.
I'd take that over new stuff anyday tbh.

Games are too binary on both sides.
As killer, its either an easy 4k, or a 0/1k against a good swf, no middle ground.
Solo survivor is basicly the same, you know within the first minute how the match will turn out, and again its mostly a stomp for one side.
Those matches are neither thrilling nor fun, because they are unbalanced from the start by matchmaking.
That being said, i play less and less as time progresses, because most matches just are not fun anymore.

I have found myself wondering if player drop-off is partly responsible for the terrible matchmaking lately. But the player count seems to be steady so I have no clue.

The steam charts show a precipitous decline in September. I won't profess to know what's up for everyone else, but I am playing less than 10% of the time I used to because the game isn't fun. My list of issues: Matchmaking is terrible, bots are terrible, Killer behavior CAN be terrible (camping, tunnelling, slugging).
I should as an aside say that I don't expect killers to do anything except try to win. When I give feedback (both now and in the past) about camping, tunnelling, and slugging, it was directed to BHVR to fix their game. To expect the internet of people to abide by some arbitrary survivor rulebook is silly. However, BHVR needs to be way faster at identifying threats to the fun of the game and get on them right away.

It's probably not that surprising that veteran players are moving on. Play a game for a long time and you're bound to get bored of it.
Having said that, I do feel like the devs are catering to a new generation of players. I think competitiveness has taken over, and too many people cry for the game to change around them instead of trying to adapt first.
I'm playing less because, quite frankly, my team mates are potatoes.

I don't blame them. They literally said "anything but DBD" and besides that I didn't want them to have to reinstall the game just for a few matches. Some games just aren't worth coming back to. We ended up playing Devour and had a lot of fun.
It really depends on the game. I have a lot of games I've played longer than DBD that I always come back to or even still play almost everyday.

I don't get all the comments about killer being too easy and killer behaviours being bad. I literally struggle so much playing killer. It's an awful experience for me most of the time when I try. However, I play soloQ survivor 90% of the time and that is fine.
The only reason i've drastically cut down on playing DbD is because it has got a bit dull for me. Survivor is a tad boring now, there's no new gameplay. But some of the events introduce interesting and fun mechanics which have made it interesting for me.
I used to be a very a casual player and played when I had the time to chill out. However, I just don't have enough time to pump into the game to properly "learn" killers. So I dunno what to do anymore lol.
So naturally I've just moved on and play it occasionally out of habit lol or if an event has an interesting mechanic for my survivors .

It is strange that survivors need teamwork to gets the gates powered, but the game makes it difficult to coordinate and actively creates chaos with the matchmaking. Maybe TCM gets it right, where you can work as a team but also escape by working solo.

Its abit of a mixed bag from us. Somethings are better, while others aren't. Regardless, we're playing less because we wan't to play other things on occasion.
One claw, new killers, map, and perks to play around with. No true infinites to deal with and alot of bs is cut down.
The other claw, 85% or so of the players we see are effectively the same thing. Alot of little things that made matches more varied are gone (flashlight burns, dark map offerings, etc)
We do believe its possible to have fun on one side even with an unfair advantage to a certain extent, but it needs to be a "fair" unfair advantage (perfect english... but its hard to explain for us. Think hard games that have some bs but its a know factor... again hard to explain)

I wonder how they could implement something like that. Obviously hatch is an option with one survivor left, but it's hard to keep morale going if someone ducks out early or is tunnelled out early or team mates insist on doing nothing. So alternative escape routes would help with that, but I feel like anything that gives survivors an additional chance would be too controversial for BHVR to even consider.
Plus alternative escape routes could be just as damaging to teamwork as someone ducking out, getting tunnelled, etc, because if doing gens are still the primary objective, then you'd potentially have team mates neglecting gens in favour of something else. I dunno. They'd probably have to completely overhaul the game tbh.

I have no idea how they could implement anything without being able to differentiate between a survivor that lasted the longest because they played well and one who just hid and let everyone die. Once the hatch is closed, if the killer finds you, that's the end for the survivor. Even if they outplay the killer they will eventually die. I have no idea how BHVR could fix that.

If this is true, then I guess I couldn't blame anybody. There's only one game type and I wouldn't exactly call it stellar at providing good times.

The game still has the fundamental problem of requiring teamwork and coordination to win with no way to communicate in the game.

Thats because people who say that killer is "too easy" probably play 1 specific killer all the time or they just bash soloq or noobs
If you look at nightlight.gg, the killers overall never had such low killrates since I play the game. Back in 2021/2022, we had maybe 1-2 killers with <50% Killrates. Now, a lot of killers barely get 50%.
If you think about the average killrate of ~60% BHVR wanted in 6.1.0, only very few killers can reach that point. Most killers are inbetween 50-55%.
Anyway, these are non-official stats. Sadly, BHVR dont reveal much stats in 2023 besides the perk-usage. I would wish to see much more stats.

Can you guys stop using nightlight as your source. There's like 20 people uploading their matches there and most of them only upload their losses against premades to prove a point.
Back when BHVR said kill rate was 55% nightlight was already off. Not even the highest kill rate killers were tiered correctly when comparing them to official stats.
And killer is "too easy". You have one match that you can't win because you're facing a SWF and then the next 7 matches you can just left click on sight to win. It's part of the reason I stopped playing. I can't pull my hair each survivor match trying to get a single escape and still lose while having missions progress 6 times slower than when I play killer which entire gameplay pattern is "Walk to gen, smack person, get 9 different scoring events and 1 mission progress, win". It made me irrationally angry.

So "like 20 players" played almost 300 000 games on killer only. Bruh they need to touch grass man.

Other games has been a big part of that too. My free time is becoming a bit more limited and I have a big ol backlog of games I'm going through as I have money now but less time :D
I also think you're onto something that getting a good match seems harder and harder. I find that most of my matches now involve someone getting stomped. Sometimes I am the stomper as I'm playing against (or with as a Solo Queue player) barely sentient potatoes or I am playing against (or with) God's Gift to Gaming Kind and the opponent puts up the fight of a dead hamster. While the "Win or Lose by the Skin of my Teeth" games do happen, they're the exception now rather than the rule.
I imagine I'll always play DBD in some form until it all goes belly up but there are so many damn good games out there to play and so little time...

Hopefully they're taking this criticism to heart, the game has a lot of issues and people are making valid points. I'd add to it but mostly everything people mentioned in this thread I've witnessed as well.

So much this. In TCM there is an in game chat, it's nice, I wouldn't mind this in game. Also you can VC, which I dare not do. Last time I did I got hit on by a bunch of people and it was creepy, but just saying, it's an option...

I haven't played dbd in many months until just recently and its honestly disappointing tbh. It was definitely better back then. The in-game community vibe was even different (if you know what I'm saying). I am a survivor main, so this may be slightly bias, but it seems they killed some perks. Dead Hard imo was fine the way it was before. It was able to be countered before and now its just dry. Honestly, now that it's SUPER balanced, the game is bland and it needs some serious seasoning. I also really do not like the new wiggle mechanic. When they let us try it, I hated it and stuck to using my analog stick and now I guess I'm forced to use that mechanic. **Nobody has to agree with my opinion**

I can partly agree on that but i think the way they are nerfing survivors only really affect soloQ survivors. I mean if i play with friends i win more matches than i lose. So taking away those perks that are cheap but can make up for a mistake is a bad way when the nerfs need to affect people with communication. I mean people playing soloQ will ALWAYS be less efficient and make more mistakes.
I think a good approach would be to minimize the difference between soloQ and SWF and then balance the game from that

Yea i've taken breaks since 2017 but i always have that feeling that makes me go back but i just dont get that recently. I used to play it a lot and ive ALWAYS had fun playing it every now and then. Now i dont even have fun when i play a few matches a day (even if i win or not)

EXACTLY!!!! this is what I mean I don't have a problem winning when I'm playing with friends ITS ONLY SOLOQ. When they nerf perks like deadhard that makes up for mistakes it affects soloQ way more because a team with 4 randoms are ALWAYS less efficient and makes more mistakes than a SWF. They take the big hit while SWFs gets a tiny slap on the wrist
