Time limited outfits...

Prepare for summer, when all of the remaining popular collections will get yanked right before they're supposed to be free. Just like no one wears pyjamas except for Christmas, no one wears shorts except on the 4th of July.

Not DBD but it concerns the topic of time-limited cosmetics: https://overwatch.blizzard.com/en-us/news/23910163/
After a lot of complains, Overwatch 2 has decided to unvault a majority of their skins that were limited to buy only during events. It seems FOMO is a thing a lot of people DO NOT WANT. I wish someone else in the room would take a note of this cough 🙄
Also, just today, two games that were dependent of FOMO are shutting down: Rumbleverse (battle pass + rotation store) and Apex Legends Mobile (battle pass + rotation store + lootboxes). 🤔

IIRC, SMITE used to do limited availability, and they went back on that, too. They no longer do time-bound exclusives, they just make skins more expensive when you've missed them. (Possibly barring licensed stuff)
Time-walling is a very short-term profit kind of thing when it comes to digital goods. The material is there, the data is available for copying without anyone's effort, you can literally make money from nothing, but then the higher-ups just decide to spike their numbers a bit by preying on FOMO.
It pays out considerably less in the long run. Hopefully BHVR will realise that in due time.

Smite still has "Limited" outfits that if you don't get them when they are available, they are gone forever. The only exception is the Archon Thanatos and Poolseidon Poseidon, which you can get for a $1000 charitable donation during their charity events. The "More expensive" skins are the Unlimited skins, which you get by buying them as part of an event that gets you a bunch of skins at a discount, like the battle pass but more expensive. But after the event is over, then they are put on sale for the full price of the event... each. Like for example, Hel has a skin that at the time it came out was the last reward for an event that gave you a bunch of new skins for 8000 gems total. Now, that one Hel skin is 8000 gems.
As to how that relates to DBD, well... IMO it doesn't.

Quick, everyone! Before they run out of stocks!!!!
🙃🙄

When Claudette slays so much even BHVR's greed can't hold her 💅

With the 6.5.2 hotfix, the Lunar New Year outfits have been vaulted from the shop.
In short:
- Halloween: 2 full outfits for Dwight + 1 full outfit for Jane, Mikaela, the Doctor, Feng, the Clown, the Trapper, Jeff, Ace and the Wraith.
- Year's End Holidays: 2 full outfits for Yun-Jin, Mikaela, Dwight, Meg + 1 full outfit for the Clown, the Twins, Zarina, Claudette, Jake, Elodie, Ace, the Trapper, the Trickster, Kate, Felix, Feng, Jonah, the Huntress + 29 Ugly Sweaters across all characters.
- Lunar Chinese New Year: 2 full outfits for Feng + 1 outfit for Ace, the Huntress, the Legion, Jeff, the Deathslinger, the Wraith, Yui and Vittorio.
Around 150 piece of cosmetics won't be purchasable until next year... for 2 or 3 weeks at best. 🤡
It's good marketing 🤠 #FuckFOMO
(We gotta talk about the other Prime Gaming, anniversary event-limited, single-piece Rift cosmetics that didn't make it out yet, at some point.)

Something noteworthy:
Haddie's Upper outfit in the 6.6.0 column was once offered as a exclusive for Amazon Prime Gaming. That would be the first time a reward from Prime was then put into the in-game shop for everyone else.
That would also be a first with the Masquerade Outfit, the only anniversary cosmetic to come back. Perhaps that would be the case with the one for the Dredge?
1 -
I will take a wild guess: all masquerade outfits from last year will return but only for limited time (anniversary event) in the store - for auric cells as they are essentially new in the store.
although this might imply that we could get new masquerade outfits with the event..
2 -
With the anniversary one, it'll probably just be a case of "only available in the 2 weeks of anniversary"
1 -
God I hope not, I was happy thinking there was some progress in that aspect, why did you have to shoot down my optimism 🤕
1 -
with bhvr ive learned that even being cautiously optomistic is too much

ROUND...4?
...April Fools?
Still FOMO, still sucks.

Reminder from a previous blogpost:
If those 2 head cosmetics don't belong in one of those collections, which seems very very likely to be the case, that's another lie from BHVR on the subject of LTC. Another one.
Can we really have an open discussion on this with the devs or no?
1 -
Nah, nah - you say it yourself: the hat and the glasses are exclusive, time limited individual items. They are not seasonal collections and therefore they are not covered by that overview.
Marketing is deep in the semantics woods - and it holds very true: it's always more important what is not said. Which also means: no. There is likely no open discussion to be had. (But the game devs usually also have relatively little to do with the monetisation ideas the marketing team comes up with)
2 -
From your screenshot I don't see how they lied. It says "to date". Is there more context?

Safe to assume the anniversary crowns won't be available to buy anymore after the event ends.
JFC, BHVR. Can you just stop this disgusting practice?
4 -
Announced as of today:
Whatever which side decided to not renew the partnership, those outfits are now on the verge of being vaulted forever with no chance of coming back.
2 -
I wanna hear the "it's normal seasonal cosmetics go away" people think about this one...
This is what you normalised instead of fighting it. Congratulations.
7 -
This is actually disgusting
These business practices are a disgrace and we as consumers continue to conceed ground and normalise it.
4 -
Wow who could've seen this coming
5 -
at least they return every year. Some games dont even do this, like fortnite, where cosmetics never return, AFAIK.
1 -
Still not acceptable, don't defend it.
8 -
Okay but "it's better than it could be" doesn't excuse the fact it doesn't have to be here at all.
4 -
Eh don't be that bitter. Not worth beating yourself up about something that's not going to stop. It works and money is money. You won't change it.
1 -
Does it really work? Seeing a Vittorio/Fang wearing their limited LNY outfit or a Dwight/Jane and their Halloween outfit is way rarer than facing a Twins player.
If it doesn't bring more money than regular outfits available all year, it's time to stop that stupidity.
1 -
Do you have a source for this (for them returning every year, not the Fortnite thing)?
The christmas event page (https://deadbydaylight.com/news/winter-2022/) says they "will return the following holiday season.", which doesn't confirm that they will return every year, just that the items will be available again this holiday season (2023).
Is there a good reason for them to shifty in their wording and trying to "hide" that the items will only return once and never again (this is basically me saying that I understand that I am being very pedantic about their wording but I can't phrase it better)? No. But then again there is no reason for time limited items in the first place.

Update as of July 25th:
The Christmas in July collection has been released. It's a new separate collection from every other that has been vaulted during last year's holiday season. And no, old cosmetics are not back, everyone assumed so, but there was no confirmation about it. Greed is greed. 🤷♂️
Oh thank you for twisting the knife, Kirby. Very cool thing to do. We love FOMO, don't we? 🙄
9 -
tbh im just thankful that kirby's been able to twist it into keeping it year round instead of being forced to make it another seasonal
5 -
We had a bunch of holiday cosmetics that were year round and not even that holiday themed that they decided to make time limited. After that I wouldn't be surprised if they say year round now but at end of holiday season these get removed with the other "holiday" cosmetics.
2 -
Will those cosmetics leave the store cuz of FOMO or will they stay in there for a long time?
0 -
So far, it doesn't seem they will be removed anytime soon.
0 -
Nice! I hope it stays like that
0 -
I just want Yun Jin xmas skin damn it
0 -
Are the Greek Legends stuff limited?
1 -
No.
2 -
I will let you guess how many of those quote retweets point the hypocrisy of this answer with the existing time-limited collections.
Answer: It's not that low!
7 -
...SIGH
6 -
ive run out of ways to sigh

Daily reminder we called this, this thread is proof of that
People said oh it's ok its just christmas outfits, its just old halloween outfits
People just put up with it and they're milking it. This is why you should always speak up if you hate crap like this, even if you don't think it'll make any difference
4 -
Remember when BHVR pretended that all of this was necessary for making the store less clustered? 🤡
Yeah, that will entice new players all right. 🙄

Might as well pin this thread lol

In retrospect, it's very funny this company continues to shove time-limited cosmetics down our throat, when Fortnite, THE game that has popularised this disgusting monetisation scheme, had to fire a lot of employees because it's not working enough anymore.
BHVR, stop driving towards the wall. Pretty please?
4 -
What's crazy to me is they are doing time locked cosmetics with the expectation people buy auric cells to purchase these, yet there are so many complaints of people missing auric cells from purchases (including myself) that are going unanswered. Why on earth would I buy more currency just to risk the currency or cosmetic going missing?

BHVR make me want to play the game challenge
