No representation of Disabilities e.g. MND / Autism / ADHD
There are numerous rainbow flags representing sexuality etc there is nothing for people with disabilities.
There is a colour blind setting and some token regarding Puppers, have I missed anything why BHVR don't consider bringing awareness about disabilities to DBD?

Maybe they are to busy nerfing pig for that. Lol no I think they will someday but it takes them a long time for any changes and new content. They will probably eventually though.

While I understand you I don't think bringing up Rainbow Flags helps this case at all. Marginalized groups are not in a competition with eachother and they shouldn't be compared.
That being said, there should always be room for more representation and I really hope your request comes true!

Claudette and Renato are said to be autistic and I think especially for Renato it’s indirectly confirmed in the tome story? (Though frankly I haven’t read it myself and not sure if true)
that and other (physical) disabilities are very much present in the game.

There's Bubba.

Hillbilly exists

Why do you think you need to be represented? Really.
If you have validation issues, go to the therapist.
All these flags are just for show.

This is always the inevitable outcome once the door has been opened. One thing will be added to a video game in support of a cause, then someone will come along and desire their cause be represented as well. On the onset this may not seem like a problem, but this is a never ending cycle that is impossible to appease everyone. Once a game is seen as a bastion for a cause, others will come and desire to have it be a bastion for theirs too. If that cycle continues, the soul of the game is replaced for the sake of representing the cause.
Representation should feel natural in video games otherwise it has no substance and just serves to send a message.

Claudette has autism to degree, her hype fixation is a pretty common trait autistic people experience.
How else could the game bring awareness about those disabilities in your opinion? What are you looking for?

I do not understand what you are saying about Rainbow flags as most of this looks like a customer care template response without addressing the post but thank you for the nice words.
Having a BHVR artist develop a flag / token would be easy to do but for some reason hasn't been done, an example:
However I feel there voice for families with disabilities is drowned out with their work needed for day to day life, as we have seen before it takes many many hours of discussion to evenutally be brought to fruition in our game.

I believe somewhere in Jake's tome that kinda mention him mixing words and reading backwards throughout high school which may allude to dyslexia. But they never really expanded on it or outright confirmed it tho.

Yes, Deathslinger is limping for example.

I personally have never really seen the point of the whole flag thing in general tbh... but since it is a thing...
I also don't see any harm in asking for it.
3 -
Representation does feel natural in DbD already. Even for disabilities like OP is asking for.
the soul of this game stays intact because the very creators stand behind representation and inclusion.
there is no problem, only the one from people against it bc of their xenophobia. One person asking for something to be included is not a problem.

Sorry I worked in customer service before LOL.😭
What I meant was you brought up pride flags and as you can see many people picked that part to argue "Where do we stop with this representation thing?! You can't represent everybody!" which is blown out of proportion since you aren't even asking for much and people lack empathy because they're used to being represented their whole lives 24/7 without having to work for it. People were coming up with the same arguments against diverse pride flags too and now here we are, everything turned out okay...
The reason we should have this representation shouldn't be just because we have other types of representation in the game. It should be because each group deserves it. Hope you understand where I'm coming from!

I wouldn't say pretty common, it also depends on the spectrum too, I have two people in my house with Autisum but neither have hype fixation, also they are both very different from one another, it maybe more common with those who have ADHD, I don't know. :)

Sure, why not. Representation doesn't affect gameplay so it doesn't hurt anyone.
2 -
I know nobody who officially is diagnosed, but I got this from googling most common traits for autism, ADHD etc. and getting the info from US & UK official medical sources.

Inclusivity and representation are very important to the team, so I am really glad you shared your feedback! Whilst I do not have anything to share specifically regarding neurodivergent representation, I wanted you to know great care goes into ensuring that representation is added with care. Our Creative Director touched on this in our AMA in June.
"We have multiple steps in our creation process that ensure due diligence in this regard: internal & external consultation with regional partners, extensive research, and immersion are some of them." Reddit AMA - June 7, 2023 - BHVR
Thank you for sharing your thoughts about what representation you'd like to see in Dead by Daylight.

DBD is a horror game about killers hunting down survivors in a nightmare created by a space demon. Everything within the game should feel natural to that aesthetic. Video games are diverse by nature, so in my opinion something like a charm representing a cause from our reality feels out of place in the game. I guess if the cause appeals to someone personally they will feel differently about it.
Every single pride charm in DBD should be a playable character instead of a charm. That is natural diversity and the point I was making. I wonder if the OP had a character within the game that appeals to them in this regard if they would have made this post.

Video games are diverse by nature
only when saying that literal clones are also diverse - as confirmed by yourself. I wonder why you try to bring this argument again..

no. Not at all. That would be not natural but going along a checklist.
2 -
No. Unfortunately video games aren't diverse "by nature". I've been playing video games since my childhood. Games are barely starting to get more comfortable introducing LGBTQ+ or neurodivergent characters, and it's still very rare. Most developers don't even want to take this risk because everytime they try there's always a crowd waiting to comment on how "forced" or "unnatural" it looks, like how you implied yourself. I'm not even going to mention all the anti-LGBTQ+ or ableist backlash. So we still have a long way to go and a charm the size of an ant won't hurt anybody, I swear.

Diversity seems to be a self defined word to many people. If you place an apple and orange beside each other you have diversity even though they are 2 common fruits. Video games, by the mere definition of diversity, are diverse by nature.
no. Not at all. That would be not natural but going along a checklist.
Perhaps if it were all done at once then I can see that argument being made. But do you really think a spectrum of pride charms is natural representation? The only natural lgbt representation DBD has in my opinion is one character who was revealed to be gay 5 years after his debut.
1 -
Diversity in media is actually very well defined and I have only seen bad faith arguments like yours that go against that. Pretty much everyone knows what the actual meaning is..
I don’t think that charms per se are actual ‚representation‘ but they are more a way to raise awareness, show that the creators/community are open and welcoming and a way of player self expression.
I agree that the only natural representation currently is David and that could have been handeled better (sooner) - and there should be more. But it would feel very unnatural if now they started to add characters representing specific minority groups one after another.

Reading the rest of this Thread is hurting my brain. To come back to the topic: I understand your POV and find representation really interesting. The only thing I am wondering is what kind of repesentation are you looking for? Background Story? Charms? Awareness Days (Event?)? Or maybe a Twitter-Post with a BP Code? Representation can accure in different ways and we have certain representation already in the game through little stories etc.
And just to bring some people back to reality: If you are wondering why representation is helpful or sometimes needed, please read the pinned thread about David King. Click on the link and read the post, because I feel like some are missing the point.

Having seen responses to that very thread that got deleted by the mods thankfully I can assure you, those people will find a problem with that post as well sadly.
Also something I missed when I first posted on this thread I think OP is directly asking for charms to raise awareness and not characters/stories as they mentioned the LGBTQ+ charms and the fact that we do have some characters with confirmed disabilities.
2 -
Ah thank you for pointing that out. To be honest, we have so many charms that I don't think that people care if BHVR adds more to them. I just googled it and never knew that ADHD etc. has specific flags. Super cool imo! I hope OP will see the representation in-game they are looking for! I am sure a lot of players and twitch-streamers would appreciate these charms aswell.
Someone in this thread pointed out country flags and I would appreciate that too. Like these are little but fun details.

While I agree generally, i get that this could raise some problems though, especially considering real world conflicts (Israel, Palestine, Ukraine, Russia, China, Taiwan, just to name a few)

What kind of problems would this bring on?

Oh god, not the puzzle piece flag
Fun fact: The organization who popularised the puzzle piece as a symbol for autism mainly focus on finding a "cure" for autism, they want to eliminate autistic people from society. They promote a harmful form of "therapy" for autistic people that encourages them to mask and can straight up traumatise people.
I would feel the OPPOSITE of represented if they added the puzzle piece. If you want to advocate for representation for autism then please use the Rainbow Infinity symbol instead, which is the more accepted symbol that doesn't carry the issues that the puzzle piece does.

Well, I cited my sources and I never made a generalization regarding all people who has this. I think im fine.

There 100% is representation in the lore there just isn't a big ol bumper sticker slapped on the characters because thats not how you do representation right
1 -
Only thing frustrating is that accessibility options are for survivors only. They get audible visuals (TR) to help hard of hearing survivors, but killers don't get audible visuals for gen repair/progress sounds.

I understand horror brings in a lot of people and it’s a big community.
but these companies don’t care about your feelings or preferences. Look at what happened to the new Spider-Man game on PS5.
They removed all representation and pride stuff in the Middle East version just to make more money. These corporations are just using your identity to make money. They care about you one second and next they will instantly remove it to appease the Middle East or other countries.
Yes the mod said we care about it a lot but when was the last time we got representation? David back in 2020? Renato now? I don’t think where getting your request anytime soon.
quick question, is there anybody here that owns dbd in the Middle East or another part of the world does it have all the pride stuff in it im curious?

Please keep the discussion on-topic, civil, and respectful. Thank you.

What about the upcoming FoV slider?
Colorblind mode which affects both sides but arguably is more important for killer side?
there is also no equivalent of TR on killer side. Survivor didn’t get noise notifications for other sounds like killer footsteps/breathing either..
0 -
Yeah, but TR is key for survivors, breathing and such is a fairly small thing. Generator progress sounds are key for killers so they know if the gen is being worked on - I'd say that warrants accessibility...plus to fix the audio bug where generators don't play noises in some map areas such as the silent hill ramp that leads upstairs.
Fov slider isn't accessibility.
0 -
Fov slider isn’t accessibility? … are you serious?
and yeah. TR is key for survivors. More so than gen sounds for killers (which I agree should also get a visual notification but that’s not the point)
edit: and also bringing bugs into it as if they were intentional??
0 -
Yes, I'm serious. It doesn't help with any disabilities. More of a quality of life, but being able to see more on your screen is a definite gameplay advantage. I'm surprised they are adding it. At least it will help reduce the silly immunity that survivors often get when spinning in circles.

It helps with motion sickness. It is accessibility. Yes it is also a gameplay advantage and QoL, but people have made that argument for literally any kind of accessibility. With hat kind of argumentation you can just say there is no accessibility options for killers nor survivors.
0 -
I get motion sickness (which sucks because I super wanted to play VR games more consistently), but fov has never remotely affected me whatsoever, so that's news to me. I have only heard of forced movement when you are not initiating movement yourself as causing motion sickness...not how much you can see on a screen. Regardless, I'm all for accessibility as long as it doesn't hurt game balance, otherwise, we end up with this:
The heartbeat thing, I'm glad they made the heart graphic a bit difficult to tell if something is getting closer or further as opposed to pixel perfect information that the spinechill icon had, so I applaud that, but it definitely ended up hurting onryo killers. It's hard to hear her lullaby sometimes since it's so quiet, but the visual TR completely gives you a heads up.
Bear in mind, I'm a killer main, so fov slider will be a boon for me, but I still feel that accessibility changes need some serious thought as to not affect the gameplay as a whole.
