Hawkins is once again the worst map in the game
I remember when Hawkins was still a thing; it was, quite literally, the worst map that you could get (both as a survivor and as a killer). The loops are broken, some tiles have more pallets than they should, LoS blockers are everywhere, and the geometry of the map screws with most of the killer's powers, etc.
I understand that everyone is excited for Stranger Things to come back to the game, but how has this map not been reviewed before release? It's literally the same one that was removed, without a single change. I don't even think it would be that bad if it weren't for the fact that the spawn rate is increased, so it's all I've been playing lately.
I just hope this isn't a 'The Game' scenario where the devs pretend it isn't an issue for years

i actually loved Hawkins lol

Totally agree. Extremely disappointed that this was re-released with ZERO changes, especially after all the feedback the devs received about how broken it was before it went away the first time.

This was the Scratched Mirror Myers map lol it's Lerys now, but back in the day when you saw the Hawkins offering you knew what awaited you. Everyone else hated it lol
2 -
And yet many people even wanted the map to return even without the Stranger Things content (in a reskinned style eg for Trickster I have seen often suggested).

I loved Hawkins, and I'm glad to see it back.
How bad it is depends on the killer you're playing, and from memory it's fine on survivor too- though I'll admit I didn't play survivor nearly as much back when it was still in the game.
It's a great map for stealth killers, for one. It's also perfectly neutral for any killer that doesn't have a collision-based power, and it's even pretty okay for the ranged killers.
I liked it! It's a fun map.

Honestly? Good.
The Game is not nearly as bad as people make it out to be.
And is it really that bad to have a killer-sided map, for once?
Not to mention it's ######### HAWKINS??

I couldn't disagree more. Unless you're a Huntress-only player, then yeah. It would be far and away the best map in the game if it was an outdoor map. The loops in Hawkins are perfectly designed, and it's a shame they didn't copy more of the design onto other maps. The loops, especially pallet placement, on any other map don't even come close to how good Hawkins is.
Not a great Blight map either, but that's another positive.

Great that the chars are back, sad that Hawkins is back as well.

Killers got the SH map. You have to admit, one is a cool number. You can do so much with it.

The map isn't that bad minus a few loops here and there that need to be changed. The catwalks with open centers for instance where you can leap across them as killer and hit survivor on the stairs or as survivor fall onto the railing and glide over to the stairs. Also definitely too many pallet chains here and that's as a survivor main I'm saying this lol.
Overall the aesthetics and upgraded graphics look phenomenal

Unlike RE or SH maps, this one never felt like it was coming from its IP, it never felt like 'Hawkins' to me. It's just a few points of interest shown in the show stitched together within an awful layout. Which makes it horrible gameplay-wise (the most important wise)

Oh for god sake stop moaning. Who cares? It's literally been a few hours since it's been back in the game. Let people be excited and happy without the s**t posting. Remember, it's just a game. It's not that serious. If you're afraid of it being unbalanced then use map offerings.

I had a fun game on it earlier with the Demo, with no prior experience of the map. I think it looks great, feels very faithful to the show and of course I dig the 80's Cold War vibes. I can see how a Killer with no easy way to deal with pallets is going to struggle, though. Still, I would take this over any of the stupid corn maps.
And I can already tell I'm going to get so very lost when I find myself sent there in my Survivor games. Maybe not Midwich lost, but still pretty lost.

i was a newer player back then and didn't really understand map balance. how does this map upset both sides? is it one that's great for some killers and awful for some like rpd? does it blatantly favor one side? i don't remember struggling on it as survivor. it seems to have lots of pallets but really unsafe ones, and seems exceptionally good for mirror myers and wraith, overall stealthy killers/playstyles.

Because it's not very likely for a balanced match to happen on it, it will always favor one side more heavily than the other.
A killer like Myers, Wraith, or Ghostface could have a great game there, so survivors don't have much of a chance. But then, killers like Huntress, Blight, Wesker, etc., have their powers completely nullified. It's an old type of layout that just doesn't work in the current DBD.
2 -
yeah i see, thanks. so it is just a "certain-killers sided" map, which isn't really healthy especially since map offerings exist.

Playing now like six times in a row on that map again and i am already in a mental state to throw every game that takes me to that garbage of a map. Good job devs.
2 -
Agree!
Was my favourite map back then.
2 -
Good job on what.
It's an old map that was sleeping in the code. It's one of the oldies. Same with Badham and swamp.
What do you particularly dislike about Hawkins? Personally, I missed it a lot.
3 -
Agree!

I do love these indoor maps as survivors. I like the creativity required for loops and the challenge of avoiding the three gens, is fun. Big hit or miss though for which killer you'll be using.
2 -
One game on Hawkins and I'm already ready to email Netflix begging them to rescind the license.
1 -
I think the maps fine. Mostly every pallet has actual mind game potential on both sides. Very little pallets on the map are just "pre drop an go"
0 -
Already waiting for the license to go again. Just horrible on both sides. Killers are on an advantage BUT half the roster is punished for using their power at all so nobody has any fun. I'd call it an m1 clown fiesta, but clown is ranged so he can't even have a fiesta there.

Nah RPD keeps that crown

I adore Hawkins! Its the ultimate map fantasy for a stealth killer!

People defending Hawkin's until Trickster gets buffed and they realise how little they can do against projectile spam in a map entirely comprised of narrow corridors. 😐️
1 -
I never got into DbD until the Stranger Things chapter was long gone and all I ever heard was "Hawkins was a terrible map", so this is my first time playing on it.
And wow, it really is as bad as everyone said it was.
1 -
Oh yeah, one game on Hawkins is all it took and I remembered why I never liked that map. it getting removed was a blessing in disguise. No rose-tinted glasses over here.
1 -
There are basically just really unsafe pallets that every killer can just walk around building up bloodlust for easy hits. As pallet throws are mostly screwed you just get hit no matter what you do. there are also basically no tiles to slowdown the killer like a jungle gym or even like LT-walls. Basically no useable windows. unless you run balanced landing youre screwed on this map. it has one of the worst layouts making it hard to navigate properly. It hasnt been the most killersided for nothing before it got deleted. But i guess devs just want to make it still worse for survivors.
1 -
i've never really had any issues on hawkins 🤷
1 -
As killer you can just walk around every unsafe pallet with no disadvantage. what are you talking about?
2 -
while the map isnt good , to be fair i still think RPD / garden of joy are the worst maps in the game.

It's great to have Hawkins back! Good job, BHVR!
It's a fine change of pace. It's the most unique indoor map in the game.
(Incidentally, it's never been the worst map in the game. Not even close. The Badham realm still exists. Garden of Joy still exists. Old Haddonfield used to exist. Old RCPD used to exist. Etc...)
It's a blast from the game's past, and, as Killer, it's worth slowing down and playing a few games as Trapper. (There's nothing else in the game quite like catching someone in a trap after they've jumped through the 3rd floor hole.) As Survivor, it's worth doing one of the safest gens in the game (on top of the glass) and one of the riskiest (in the 3rd-floor closet).
Until it clicked, I used to get lost trying to find the exits sometimes, but it's good to visit Hawkins again.

do you even know what irony is?

Do some people want this game to be like Friday the 13th with the maps? Meaning, EVERY match was Packanack Small and that gets pretty old fast. There's a lot of maps in this game now and some are good, some great, some bad, that's kind of the point. I think map offerings should be removed because random selection is always fair.
2 -
exactly. i am ok with unbalanced maps as long as there are about equal amounts of them favoring each side, but map offerings would need to go if maps are gonna be obviously one sided so they aren't abused.
1 -
Can't wait to use Knight on there. Survivors won't be able to hold killers to ransome on the footwalks as his guards should be able to teleport up there 😏

It was far from the worst map at the time. I am inclined to believe people think so because it was a killer-sided map instead of a survivor-sided one, but come on, OLD HADDONFIELD, OLD GAS HAVEN, OLD BLOOD LODGE and previous versions of FRACTURED COWSHED existed when this map was up. Not to mention BADHAM PRESCHOOL, that is still in the game.
And seriously, it's funny to call any map the worst when GARDEN OF JOY'S REWORK ISN'T OUT YET!
Yeah, Hawkins is a thousand times better than Garden of Joy, a map that literally has random small clutter put in your way to get you stuck, a god window followed by a god pallet, and pallets so close to each other and perfectly alined it looks like a map from late 2017.

I hated the map also but am happy that it's. Back

Hawkins was the first map where I got my first salty DM on PS4.
I was playing Legion and the final two Survivors were trying to flashlight save one another over and over and I hooked one of them and they accused me of tunneling because I wouldnt stop chasing them even though there were only two Survivors left so I had no one else to chase anyways.
I mean back then I was horrible, really bad at the game, but I enjoy my blissful ignorance at the time.

iv got most of my survivor dcs and complaints on that map so it has a special place in my heart. plus iv always been a fan of the indoor maps

I wanted it to be a 2nd RE map as an Umbrella lab.
0 -
Hawkins was always one of my favourite map honestly
0 -
And its bad to have a killer sided map in the game?
I think its fine to have a map that is inheretly killer favoured. Same with maps like cowshed, Badham, Erie, Storehouse, Gas haven and the likes that are inheretly survivor favoured.

I for the most part like the map but I have a couple of changes that would make it perfect imo. I'd love to see more doorways because it's a maze sometimes and on a 110 killer it feels like it takes way to long to patrol gates. I think some loops need changing, and for the love of god, put a hook on the 3rd floor.
0 -
Yeah mind gameable potential. Very good for the game because there should NEVER be an truly ultra safe pallet to just throw no matter what kind of situation you're in.
0 -
I swear it wouldn't take a month to realize how unfair and miserable this map is.
It should have had some tweaks when coming back to DbD I agree.
0 -
I got to run it about 8 times today.
Its so bad.
And all these clowns seem to have it memorized.
With Xeno the portals are placed. Badly.

Why are we crying about content that got removed and has now come back to the game? Can't you appreciate that it's even here to begin with? Also, who cares? It's fun no matter what, you don't have to go on a rant because it's not how you like it. This post is pointless, I doubt the devs have zero plans for the tiles in the future.
