Surely Im Not The Only Person To Dislike Background Player?

I really just dont like going against the new Background Player, but it feels like anytime I play against it I just constantly get Pallet Saved from some player half way across the map that I couldnt possible predict being there due to distance combined with line of sight blockers.

Im not trying to be super negative of course, this perk can allow for some fun plays for the Survivor, but there are just many situations as Killer where I feel kind of powerless or that I have to focus a certain Survivor just to have a chance of getting hooks.

Often I just have to slug the person I downed if they are under a pallet and just leave them there since there is no realistic way for me to hook them, and often Im just forced to tunnel the player with Background Player out, not because I want to, but because they just actively hinder my ability to play the game otherwise.

I understand the point of Background Player, it is a perk that helps with getting saves on teammates, but it just feels a bit too much at the moment, at least in my opinion.

I absolutely love it, only because it’s a lot of fun to use. It can be annoying to play against though.

Increasing the speed was one thing, I can get behind ZOOM like it does now, but increasing the duration was probably a mistake.

Can be pain unless you equipped Infectious or Lightborn.

Personally I think the main problem is not the perk itself but blind saves are much easier than before.

Im talking specifically about Pallet Saves with this perk, not so much about Flashlight Saves since I can look away/look at a wall.

It's in a pretty weird spot where sometimes it can can be really useless or really obnoxious. If you're already facing a fall when downing someone you're immune to being blinded. But if you're in an open spot that would normally be safe from flashlight blinds by just turning away from where the survivors are, they can still sprint around you to get the blind and it feels extremely cheap.

Imo they should really change it to giving the person you unhook a 5 second sprint burst if they decide to run within the next 10 seconds. As the perk is now it's just very awkwardly designed.

Not always a choice sadly, and Flashbangs can counter that as well.

It's definitely one of those super fun to use, but super unfun to be on the receiving end of kind of perks. I won't complain if they nerf it, despite how many saves I'm getting thanks to it.

They pushed it so hard to make people use it so now its kinda OP just by sore stats it gives (longest speed boost, biggest speed boost).

pallet saves have always been cheap and with bgp there is no avoiding. i don't dislike the perk otherwise though.

I find it OK for flashlight saves. A survivor trying a flashlight save is not on gens. That's a win in my book.

I like that BGP has its niche, and it stops you having safety from other exhaustion perks so you're more likely to vecome the target, for the benefit of being able to consistently make insane mad dash saves with pallets and flashlights for others.

The only thing I dislike really is where it got buffed in both speed and duration, it makes it pretty brain dead to use in its niche... 5 seconds at 200% looks really goofy...

5 seconds at 150 would have been plenty fine imo.

This buff really is too much. Make a pallet/flashlight save from half of the map AND run away at 200% two seconds after, how is it fair? Before buff it coped with its task, but at least you needed to put some effort in it, now it's just ridiculously free.

Sorry to hear it's being such a pain. I've been noticing that people seem to expect the killer to wait to pick a person up, so, if I pick up immediately, I can usually clear the pallet before the person makes it (and they do still try it, since the buff, I've heard a number of pallets go down behind me right as I clear them).

As for flashlight saves, there's always the technique described by the ancient masters as "wall." 😁 Seriously though, people seem to think that Background Player will accommodate for their poor aim.

It's definitely one of those perks that will annoy a lot of players. Not quite on the level of boil over, but somewhere close.

seeing survivors run like blight for a few seconds always make me laugh

I don't think it's too bad. I've been hit with it a few times and it is frustrating but usually I can play around it.

The only thing that really annoys me about it is how even if they don't get the save they've still got half of the speed boost remaining to super speed away and avoid being punished. Not a big deal but it does feel bad when you predict someone will BGP over and you position yourself well only for the survivor to still have 3 seconds of super speed left and avoid being hit.

I am under no illusion that Background Player is overpowered but having played against groups that sent themselves to very open maps with this perk, I can say there is the potential to be forced in rather unpleasant play styles such as heavy slugging.

If you’re only seeing it in 1 of 20 matches is it really that big a deal? That means once out of 20 matches you may not have a good match. That’s not a bad record tbh. If I only got tunneled in 1 out of 20 matches I would never complain about tunneling ever and consider that a blessing. 🤣 Just saying.

I get your overall point that it’s not fun and that’s valid but every match in this game is not going to be fun. That’s just the nature of pvp and if your track record is dealing with this perk 1 in 20 then you’re in good shape.

It's like ftp into buckle up, BUT they all do have counters. Lightborn for background player, and stbfl or forced hesitation for the buckle up strat. They may not be fun to face, but at least we have counters for those.

BGP isn’t very common in my games but I’ve noticed an uptick in people complaining about it. Maybe the devs should revert it back to what it was? Then no survivor would use it and you wouldn’t face the frustration of experiencing it 1 out of 20 matches. 🤷🏽‍♀️ I’ve never liked it myself. I wouldn’t even notice if it was gone.

Ive said this many times before, multiple things can be an issue. I think Tunneling should be addressed, Ive been an advocate for the game prioritizing Hooks over Kills for a long time.

Also Im not exactly sure if Background Player is balanced or not to be perfectly honest; I kind of feel as if it is slightly too much but only slightly, but then again I still havent played against it enough to formulate a proper opinion on it's balance yet.

What would you rather have: People running with a flashlight and their memeish variety perks like Background player OR tryhard meta builds?

Because if you want perks like these nerfed, you might regret it since people will go back to their sweat builds in no time. Be happy that those perks exist, they are not nearly as strong as some others. .
