Huntress Mains and Crosshairs
Question for all my huntress Mains out there how do you feel about using a cross hair? Is it cheating or does it make you worse and should I just learn the center of my screen through muscle memory?
I recently decided to p100 Anna with nothing but iron grasp, while it's going as expected lol someone mentioned a Crosshairs in egc last night I wanted to know your guys take on it. Also any tricks that you've picked up along the way would be nice to.

There are some cross hair tools on steam that have it in their description that they are white listed with EAC so they are not cheating, also some monitors have a feature to make a dot appear, I think they are somewhat annoying to get used to because you cannot rely on them too much because for hatchets you need to look up and down for distance so if you focus too much on the spoz you will hit the ground a lot more than necessary...

Crosshairs? How tf could I pull this off on my Xbox? Aiming with a controller is quite poopy in DBD.

Comms for swf are also not part of the game but external software and they use it since it is allowed. They do not feel they are cheating. Same way for cross hair. Use if it makes the game fun or less difficult for you. Given that dbd is casual and non competitive , it does not really matter.

I don't think talking to your friends while playing a videogame can ever be considered cheating xD The assumption would be ridiculous.

I like this take, thanks I tend to forget that no matter how many sweats there are it's not comp

Crosshairs won't make a bad huntress good.
2 -
I mean I wouldn’t consider it cheating but it certainly won’t help to learning huntress without a crosshair.

It absolutely helps. If you play 100 games with a crosshair and then turn it off, you're going to be better at Huntress. Nothing about actually playing Huntress or the muscle memory changes with a crosshair on or off.

Anything that's non-vanilla is cheating. It hurts others experience if games aren't played the way they are supposed to be played.
3 -
That would mean that looping in the early DBD games was cheating, because the devs did not account for the possibility of that being a thing...
Cheating always implies some form of rule broken in whatever way, and when there is no rule against certain things you are not cheating. Using a voice chat can basically never be cheating, that would be ridiculous the same for a crosshair, because you might as well just tape the middle of your screen or have a monitor with a build in crosshair.

Unless you are changing the game files or something, it's not really cheating. A piece of tape on my screen is no more of a cheat than a golfball on a survivor's W key.
2 -
The point is though the result is the same if you use a tape on the screen or a programm for that... So what I would say is that if you can reproduce it with other means then it is not cheating... You could go out of your way for voice coms and just use a phone and what not...
And even game files is not necessarily cheating, as long as you're only changing the usual options...

Playing on low graphics + filters is way more near cheating then a crosshair. Just compare regular DBD content with default DBD on ultra settings. Most maps are so dark by default these days, it's insane. A crosshair can help you to learn muscle memory were the center of your screen / TV is. And at some point, you just turn it off as you don't need it anymore. Low graphics + filters are def more addicting in DBD.

Lol, there's always someone like you somewhere in the comments.

In the rules of dbd vanilla, there is no crosshair for huntress. Therefore, it's cheating.

Beat me to it. Trying to minimize the massive benefit SWF get from comms by saying it is just “talking to your friends” is comical.
1 -
Correction, anything that is deemed as bannable is cheating. Exploits are cheating, a cross hair, filters, comms are not

I like using a crosshair. It's not cheating nor considered cheating in the game. Just helps to see the centre of the screen with anything aiming, most games have a crosshair built in for stuff like that, deathslinger basically has one built in as it zooms in and centres your weapon when using it, unlike huntress or trickster.
Ofc if you care about using huntress without a cross hair then there's no use in using the cross hair as you'll kinda depend on it. I only play on pc and don't care about relying on crosshair for her.
If this is about tournaments then that makes sense but general gameplay it isn't cheating lol, I'm pretty sure devs have confirmed this and you will not be banned for using a crosshair lolll, I think even EAC has whitelisted some crosshairs or isn't listed as a prohibited program.

Depends on how you define cheating I guess. Unfair advantage? Technically, yes. Skill Crutch? Absolutely. If you are worried about being banned (which I highly doubt would happen) then contact BHVR to confirm and see what programs are whitelisted for their EAC.

The devs have stated that a crosshair wont get you banned as it doesn't actually modify game files in your favor. Are people going to complain that its cheating? Sure, a sore loser is gonna attack whatever they can to shift the responsibility of their loss. I know there's quite a few Huntress Mains that use a crosshair or something taped to their screen. (I'm pretty sure I remember someone saying there's a Huntress Main who has a cheerio taped to their monitor.)
A crosshair doesn't throw the hatchet for you, and you're still going to miss many many hatchets. But its nice to have a reference to line up snipes and tight shots, and is useful in learning what hatchet trajectory looks like because it is not a straight line and it certainly doesn't travel infinitely.
A crosshair just shows you what exactly what direction the hatchet is going to fly. You still need to know how to hit the target on your own. You still need to account for the distance between you and your target, LOS blockers, Survivor pathing and speed, Hatchet trajectory and hatchet speed. Unless the survivor is pretty much point blank aiming the crosshair at the survivor is most likely not going to result in a hit, because you have to predict where the survivor is going when throwing, not where they are currently.
Long story short, if you want to use it, use it. People who want to complain are going to complain regardless, you're better off not concerning yourself with what they have to say.

There is also no rules about not using specific monitors that have that function build in or not using tape to have a spot in the middle of your screen... So it is allowed, and if that is allowed then you might as well use a Programm to achieve the same thing, because if you cannot do something against the result u might as well allow different ways to achieve it.

Also just a general thing, usually it goes the way of everything that is not forbidden is allowed and not the other way around.

So what? These Mafia type games consist of trickery and deceiving the other people, it does not matter if they are your friends or not, also what exactly would be the benefit? They might still be lying and trying to trick you.

I have a simple question: does huntress have a crosshair in vanilla?
She doesn't, therefore you're giving yourself an advantage that shouldn't be in the game, simple as that.

What Monitor is included in the game? Are there now limitations for hardware? Can I still use a mouse that change dpi with a button? Even though it might give me an advantage when flicking?
Also you did not once make a point that huntress should not have a build in crosshair... Your argument has only been it is not in the game so she should not have it, so my question is why not? It is accessable to every platform, everyone can tape the middle of their screen with soemthing, you don't need any software that might get you banned and what not.

3,7k hour non-huntress main gamer here, have always been considering using a crosshair for huntress and i finally did it after seeing this post, can confirm it doesn't magically make any player a god huntress, i'm still a trash huntress. verticality is still super hard but crosshair allows going for very long range shots you could most likely never hit otherwise. and no i played a bunch of huntress here and there and i could never be perfectly precise with my shots without a crosshair.

I've learned that as well in my testing. It helps with knowing the center of the screen but that about it, I still waste 3 hatchets at short loops because I didn't aim high enough, miss because I have no patience etc.
Another question though how do you guys handle maps like lerys and Hawkins? Are there maps that your just destined to lose on?

Some monitors come with crosshair options.
If you want to go really low tech, when navigating screens, the circle cursor will always reset to the dead center of the screen, and I've heard some folks will stick a little paper dot or something right in the middle of it for a makeshift aim assist.
Is it cheating? I don't think so. Is it even an "unfair" advantage? Probably not. Is it kind of a "training wheels" crutch that will keep you from getting better? For sure.
That said, aiming with a controller is kind of an exercise in frustration, so I can almost forgive it on console.

Some people may call it cheating but in reality ANYONE could get a cross hair and bhvr would have no way to tell. Its this neat little thing called a piece of paper and taping it to your screen.

I assure you my ol' ass tv does not boast such options! 😂🤣

0 patience here too, i let it go as soon as there is clear los without aiming properly and often those miss.
not the biggest huntress enjoyer but personally i hate rpd the most as huntress. no long range shots on any indoor map but for chasing lery and hawkins are still fine as you can cut them off but rpd is really bad since half the gameplay is chasing fading scratch marks and that's not hunty's best suit.

I play Huntress exclusively and I can tell you Hawkins makes me want to jump out of a window. Rooms on Hawkins are too small, so while there are some spots that you can thread, mostly your just a 110 M1 killer because you can't get proper angles to throw a hatchet unless the survivor is running in a straight line in a long hallway. Lery's and RPD are tied for my favorite indoor maps, what both maps lack in clear hatchet lineups they make up with threading potential, and pulling off sneaky shots survivors aren't expecting is so much fun and not to mention powerful. Blocking LOS isn't just counter play for Huntress, you can use it against survivors as well. Lery's Midwich, and RPD all have Orbital potential on top of this, and let's face it most people don't remember they also need to look up against Huntress on outdoor maps, even less know they need to look up on indoor maps. RPD is the best for orbitals, all outside gens and hooks can be hit with an Orbital and depending on which wing you're on one or both exit gates can be as well.
I guess long story short, indoor maps don't have to be game over. The best advice I can give is load up some custom matches on indoor maps and just throw hatchets at things. Is there a banister? Try throwing a hatchet through it. Window with boards or broken glass? Throw a hatchet. Hole in the wall? Weird gap in a loop? Hatchet. If you have a friend who will let you play target practice with them even better so you can take your time without the bots rushing you, and bonus if they have Huntress experience and know some of the shots on those maps.

Well nothing new here, Hawkins is a horrible map ^^

I don't see why this is not part of the game, honestly. They don't ban you for using a crosshair and it only serves as another disadvantage for console players that can't set up a crosshair from what I can tell. The best Huntress mains use it anyway.

The classic way is get a pack of those circular stickers people use for categorising folders or whatever, and stick one in the middle of your screen.
You can use a game with a crosshair to get the right spot instead of using a tape measure... off top of my head, I think the DBD menu cursor spawns in the middle of the screen.
If you want to be a smart boy, you use a hole punch on it first. Be wary of being accused of "hardware modification" though... 🙃

Thanks for the tips bro much appreciated!! Ive just been throwing matches to get practice honestly lol
