Player Pool Loss in 2024
A good part of player base in DbD are console players like myself. And the majority of us are on PlayStation.
PSN recently increased PS+ annual subscription (what is needed to play online games) by a substantial amount. It goes into effect as soon as a PSN player's current subscription expires. Most of us are on annual renewal subscription, meaning our subscriptions will end sometime in 2024. At which point the player will have to decide if it's still worth paying nearly $100/year for the ability to play online on PlayStation.
Most my friends and I are preparing ourselves to say goodby to PSN gaming. Some of us will move on to game on PC. Which brings me to DbD.
Since there is no cross-progression system for DbD, if I elect not to continue with PSN anymore in 2024, I'd have to also say goodbye to DbD. I have nearly EVERYTHING unlocked in this game. There'd be no reason for me to start from scratch.
I'd very much like to continue playing DbD after the PSN exodus. As I am sure other's in my position would too. But a lack of cross-progression is too major a disincentive.
👉️ Please strongly consider cross-progression, if not for anything, for the benefit of retaining your PlayStation player base after the PS+ price spike hitting us in 2024!
PS> Same goes for MyM (Meet your Maker)

My subscription also expires next August.
I think, when there won‘t be cross progressing, I will quit Dbd.
But maybe Dbd does the same like Fortnite, Apex…, then I could play it without ps+.
It‘s already a scam, that you have to pay money for playing online and then you get 3 games, which I never played/wanted.

They have that in mind and they also want to, but it is not the Devs who decide if there can be cross-progression or not. That is completely in the hands of Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony.

Having to pay additional money to use online services on a device/console will always be insane to me... You've already payed for the console, and you're already paying for the wifi, but for the two to meet you have to pay more?? Glad I started gaming on PC and not console, companies be greedy. Hopefully DBD can someday get cross progression for yall 🙏

My ps+ requires next August, I don‘t think, that I will pay 72€/year only to play online!
Also you only get games, that you don‘t want.
I would like behavior doing it like Fortnite, Apex etc., where you can play the game without ps+.

Online multiplayer should be free, just like it is on PC

DBD should go F2P. I'm tired of having to pay monthly or yearly just to play this game on console while PC players get to play for free

cross-progression is decided by Sony, not bHVR.

We also paid to play DBD, like you, but we don't require a money grab scam for online games like you do. Write an Email to Sony about that.

Really dude?! There's no need to be rude. Grow up!

I am not rude, I just told you the truth.
It is just a money grab by Sony and Co. as nobody should be forced to pay extra just to play online.
If you think that we PC players "get everything for free" and therefore you are entitled to get an f2p game you are wrong. Traditionally console is casual singleplayer or party games you play at home, so what did you expect?

Apologies, I meant PC players get free online multiplayer while console players have to pay a monthly or yearly subscription. I agree online should be free for all platforms, as we already pay for the console ($500+) and our internet connection

Wow, that's a bold move coming from Sony considering XBOX just announced free online play. Now you only have to pay for gamepass for the XBOX and Switch is only 35 for the year for a family plan. I also agree that you shouldn't have to pay for online gaming since it's so mainstream now. It is kind of like texting, when it first came out you literally paid per character, now it's unlimited and has basically replaced the landline. If you honestly think about DBD won't be the only game affected my it.

Apology accepted.
Sometimes we get carried away. Especially if the subject is consoles vs PC.
My PC was 2k € because I had to get a new one during a time when GPUs of the middle class were out due to the crypto boom. My old one lasted 6 years despite of having a compability problem (it was unknown when I put it together) which caused a part of the Mainboard to overheat. So I did not have much choice.
I guess that console might sill be cheaper even with the online fee. I don't know how often you get a new console. But for a PC, you usually want it to last at least 5 years with the components you buy.

I don't understand why it would be up to sony/microsoft to have cross progression.
Is it a part of their contract with Behaviour?
If it's a technical problem to have progress simultaneously over two systems, I wouldn't mind if there'd be a one time "progress transfer" option, where I could entirely transfer all my progress over to PC (and not have it available on my console anymore)

If I remember correctly; if games do not require PS+ to play Online, they must provide other services to make up for it.
Games like Fortnite and Apex have PS+ Exclusive cosmetics, which I dont will sit well with the DBD playerbase seeing how people do not like FOMO.

They could just give charms, aura cells or shards

I dont think they would do Auric Cells, the only compromise that Id see working is Iridescent Shards.

Legit your own fault for paying 500 for a console every 2 years when they roll one out and then 100+ or 79+ to use your own internet to play a multiplayer game. You know what you're getting into when you bought it, don't act surprised now.

Ideally Cross Progression deals are in place before a game comes out. In the case of DBD it launched just on Steam, but it got hugely popular so they ported it to other platforms to continue to grow the playerbase. So it went to the consoles something like a year or thereabouts later, then lastly Epic was added much later.
Now for pure conjecture on my part. What I think happened is the subject of Cross Progression wasn't immediately brought up while they were hammering out agreements with each console maker. Sadly it was discussed much later on, once players saw the stark game performance issues and wanted out. Hard to know for sure without knowing the details of such negotiations however, just my opinion.
I would love for them to open up some about this subject, but I imagine NDA's would prevent that. We can't just nail the devs for no updates or action on Cross Progression now, it likely is out of their hands for the most part. But how we got to this point could be due to decisions made 5-6 years ago.

Warframe is getting it in December, and I remember a community rep saying at one point that it was Sony that was holding back the deal and they mentioned Warframe had a similliar roadblock, so maybe it's a sign? Either that or Warframe payed a lot to get it...
Who knows, but if Warframe can get it surely DBD can

It's a money issue. Why Microsoft won't do cross progression between Xbox and themselves is beyond me. But look at Sony POV; you pay to play yearly plus buy whatever through their store and they get a cut, you then transfer you progress to another platform they lose out on that money no matter of it's a dime it adds up. More people are switching to PC because it's free.

I sure hope so.
Maybe DbD analytic staff can crunch the numbers and do a buyout from sony if their projected number of non returning DbD players (as a result of Sony's price hike) makes the deal worth it.
