We should see killers ping

And no I don't wanna see their name or what killer they choose I just want to see their ping because a 250 ping killer is a lot different than a 50 ping killer

    I agree.

Food for thought. If they ever got rid of lobbies, how would you be able to see the killer's ping?

yeah. Have asked for this for years now.

i guess since survivors can hide their names/profiles now, it’s not necessary to show the killers name/profile anymore but yes, ping is needed.

Why would they get rid of lobbies?

Killer seeing survivors. Survivors switching to 4 flashlights in the last second. Seeing players Prestige. Judging if the survivors are a SWF.

Mandy has suggested that the only solution to these issues is to skip the pregame lobby entirely and that they may possibly consider testing it.

And frankly, viewing the killers ping is in the same ballpark as dislaying SWFs. It's a free ticket to lobby dodge, ensuring that killers without top tier Internet never get to play. And if they wanted to enforce a maximum ping they could just make it a requirement before you enter the queue in the first place.

Can we see the survivors ping too in that case? I've seen many survivors rubber banding all over the place with very high ping.

Yup, will always throw my support behind this

Just show killers ping when you "pause" during a match. Eg. [KILLER] 49ms

Shouldn't be too complex. You can already see the ping of the other survivors you're in a match with.

Isn't this already a thing? It's been awhile since I last played killer, but I believe you can see survivor's ping in-match. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, though.

That's fine. I genuinely forgot this wasn't already a thing.

Yeah. I don't understand why Survivors' high ping are available for other survivors and killers to see in the lobby with a red indicator but the most crucial one which is the Killer's ping isn't showed until you load into the game and realize you're screwed.🤷

You already can. If the survivor has a high ping there's a red bar next to their name even in lobby before the game starts and in-game.

Just a passing thought. Surely you've seen the rhetoric on why lobbies should be removed before?

Well, say they actually did get rid of the match lobby. How would either side be able to see ping without being in-game to check?

I agree with @Seraphor here. Going against killers with bad connection doesn't feel great but encouraging lobby dodging (exactly what this would do) is probably not the smartest move. These players payed just as much money as everyone else (unless they are on Epic Games) to play the game and if they can't get a match because of this, then that's definitely a terrible thing. There is no warning: "Your ping must be lower than X ms or else you can't play because everyone will dodge you."

Also, how long are you willing to wait for a match? Depending on how many people would dodge this could easily take forever. And worse yet, MMR wouldn't work at all because it's completely ignored when it comes to backfilling. So the overall quality of matches would likely decrease as well. Which in turn causes the same symptoms as the issue it's trying to fix.

Agreed. A Killer can see Survivor ping based on the red bar by the Survivor in the lobby, but it's not the same the other way around. They do need that sorted.

I actually haven’t and I think it’s not really reasonable. Killer players would not be happy with removal of pre game lobbies.

but I think it is most important to display the ping the same way for killer and survivors during the match the way it is currently only for survivors when in the menu/esc

for me it’s not about dodging but having same treatment for both sides and being able to see what causes certain issues to not jump to possibly false conclusions.

I am inclined to agree. You would think it would be as straight forward as tweaking the original code that allowed everyone to see ping during p2p days or possibly integrating some setting from server side.

Would you be open to the idea of ping limits.

  • Mooks
    Mooks Member Posts: 14,802

i am not sure about ping limits.

there should be servers for the Middle East/Eastern Europe and other regions without servers nearby first.

also, you could circumvent ping limits with VPNs anyway I guess and in the end a limit only punishes people that don’t want to a use it and those that do will find their way

or hear me out we see killers ping in-game like the survivors so if they tried to dodge the game while playing let's say DC then at least players will get a penalty and if a player is just dying on hook then they were already gonna do so anyways

Either they should add a ping indicator for the killer in the lobby or put them on that list you can see when hitting ESC during a match. The killer can see the survivors' ping, why can't they see their own and why can't survivors see the Killer's ping?

Or they should protect players from unfair hits like they promised to in the past. There was something that was called HIT VALIDATION at pallets and windows as well that would reject unfair hits. It shadow vanished over the years.

This would give the Devs the motivation to finally add an additional server in the middle east (or any other region with the same problem). Alternatively they could also reimplement Hit Validation. It used to exist, but the Devs shadow removed it over time.

We had seen what happened thanks to hit validation. I don't want to sound too "doom and gloom" but to say that this had the potential to kill the game wouldn't be far from the truth. Survivor queue times at the time took forever and killer queue times were about 5 seconds at the very max. You just can't give the killer the feedback that they get the hit and then take it away from them. Sometimes multiple times per chase.

If that ever came back in this form I'd stop playing. Because this feels like a huge "######### you" from the devs even if it isn't. If you think it's bad to be hit from a distance once or twice per match, then imagine that 4 times as often. With some survivors even starting to pallet camp because 1) they can't be hit and 2) it's funny when the killer suffers. This cannot happen again.

Additional servers in specific regions though, sounds like a good idea. Only, you can't punish the players for BHVR not having them yet and maybe never.

It wasn't ideal but it showed the main issue: that there are not enough servers for the players to ensure fair matches.

If you have bad ping in a multiplayer fps, you don't hit. Simple.

It is a problem that killers have an advantage if they have bad ping. And because of that VPNs are an issue as well. The game needs more servers and a protection against VPN killers or a way to ensure that hits are fair.

  • Xernoton
    Xernoton Member Posts: 5,846

Then don't give me the constant feedback, that I got the hit. The sever deemed, that I shouldn't get the hit. I get it and that is somewhat fine (although this also has implications on this game's balance, if that many hits are laggy). But the part that really threw me and others off was the conflicting feedback. A survivor that goes down / is injured on the HUD, blood splattered across the camera and the audio clue to let you know, you hit the survivor only for it all to disappear a fraction of a second later. There have even been instances where you would get a stack of STBFL but the hit was validated anyway.

Do you have any idea how frustrating that is? It's no wonder there weren't many people playing killer at the time and it's a good thing that is no longer the case. Also, I live in western Europe. Not too far from the server, actually. And I have a very stable connection. So, that wasn't the issue but rather that the smallest of latencies makes a huge difference in this game. Do you want me to move to Frankfurt or London to avoid these issues? Sorry but that's a bit much for a video game.

If there was a way to implement hit validation without the conflicting feedback, then I wouldn't be against it. But that is not going to happen. Because (from what I understand) this isn't possible. The server would need to communicate with the killer's game before they actually get the feedback. We aren't talking about 50 ms here. Not even 30 ms (which is already very solid). But pretty much instantaneous. They could have servers every 1000 km or so and it still wouldn't be enough.

Where do we draw the line? At 15 ms? Well, have fun playing with 5 other people then. Because that is way less than can be expected from anyone. Everything up to 100 ms is considered a fine ping in different games. In DBD that makes a huge difference and looks awful but stocking up on servers and gate keeping the game from everyone who bought it and has a connection that is not at 15 ms or lower would definitely kill the game. 5 people can't buy enough skins to finance the game.

This is long overdue and has needed added since Dedicated Servers were made

I remember that. It wasn't easy, but it was something. You still have it sometimes when you DH that the survivor screams but is still standing. But tbh I think it's kinda funny when survivors drive their invisible car when I play Wesker.

I wish there was a solution to those stupid hits, but I think there is none. No real one at least. Seeing the Killer's ping during the match when pressing ESC would be something at least. Then I can react accordingly. If I only see the "red bar" the killer can have everything above 150ms (I think) but you don't know exactly, which impacts the way you need to play.

In this post I made half a year ago, I showed a clip of a Bubba who had nothing but advantages with his high ping.

    This has to stop.
