Save The Best For Last and The Demogorgon

Recently I've seen some lively debate (sincerely, I wouldn't call this 'discourse' per se) about whether or not STBFL is a good or bad perk to run on the Demogorgon. While I could talk about my direct answer to that question, I'd rather talk about something interesting I've noticed regarding the way this conversation tends to go from the camp that argue it's a bad perk.

So, let's start with the obvious: STBFL is obviously not a bad perk on the Demogorgon. The reason it's a good perk is exactly the reason you'd think it would be, that it cuts down on M1 cooldowns in the same way the Black Heart addon does for your Shred, which in turn means that whichever of the two you go for throughout the trial you're going to have a shorter cooldown afterwards. Combined with mitigating stack loss through using Shred on the Obsession, you've got the beginnings of a relentless chase build that can be difficult for the survivor to evade.

That's the obvious, so what do I actually want to talk about? I want to talk about the counter-argument, because something interesting is happening here: the typical counter-argument is both very reasonable + accurate, and not at all an argument in support of the supposed claim.

It goes as follows: STBFL is a bad perk on Demogorgon because almost any M1 you get could be a Shred with proper practice and effort, which is more overall time saved than gaining your eight stacks on STBFL from the perspective of both cooldown and time sunk into getting the hit in the first place.

What I find so fascinating about this argument is that it doesn't at all prove that STBFL is a bad perk for Demo. What it does prove, quite handily and in a manner I completely agree with, is that STBFL is not an optimal perk on Demogorgon. Somewhere along the line in this debate, people have mixed up "not the tippy-top best option" with "actually bad option", and it's leading to people talking at cross purposes from one another.

Some are arguing that the perk is bad while meaning something different, and the responses tend to be defending it from that rather than what the other person actually means.

I don't have much of a point to this thread, I just thought it was something interesting to note. Who knows, maybe this'll lead to more informed discussions between people who are more on the same page with one another! Either way, I find it interesting.
