I can't believe how good this game looks now. Did you know that bushes have leaves on them? And that fire isn't supposed to look like it's from a NES game? And that Bill's Forsaken outfit isn't made out of lumpy red clay? Because I didn't until today!
I am truly thankful for this. What an amazing improvement. This is the greatest gift you could have given console players, and just in time Christmas!

I need to report that FSR turns itself off when I close the game. I have had to turn it on again manually and set the slider to 100% every time I have launched the game so far.
I finally played a killer match with it on and boy howdy I'll tell ya it was so awesome actually being able to land hits and track survivors. Haven't had a single frame rate dip since I've been using it.

I don't really know how FSR works exactly. But if it's gonna fix my frame drops on Series S on parts of certain maps, like the main camp in Shelter Woods or the House of Pain on Haddonfield, then I'm VERY happy about this!

What the FSR does is reducing the resolution of your game (If you play at 1080p it reduce the resolution to 720p) and then use algorithms to rescale the image back to 1080p trying to make the game looks almost the same quality as playing at native resolution. The performance boost is because the game is really rendering at 720.
Nvidia DLSS do the same thing but with a different technique (using an AI).
In my opinion Nvidia DLSS is better and I hope BHVR also introduce this to DBD, the main downside of DLSS is it only works with Nvidia cards.

That's a bit curious, since with FSR, your game is supposed to look somewhat worse. As @IamFran points out, FSR is a technique that looks to improve performance (framerate) by rendering the game at a lower resolution and then scaling it up to whatever your display resolution is.
The same thing had already been in the game for ages, in the form the resolution scaler. Just that FSR has a better upscaling algorithm, meaning you should lose less visual quality in the process. The resolution scaler has also unfortunately been limited with the recent changes to graphics settings: you used to be able to freely set it in the config file from 0% to values even above 100%; now the range is capped at the menu's 65-100%. And of course, it had never been available on consoles at all for some reason.
BHVR's FSR implementation seems a little odd. FSR is supposed to give you some kind of option to choose just how much quality you want to sacrifice for performance, i. e. how low it should go with the render resolution. We have no clue what % of the display resolution DbD is being rendered at with FSR enabled. And to be honest, the game doesn't really look much worse at all with it enabled, suggesting to me that the render resolution can't be differing all that much from the display resolution.

I don't know how FSR functions usually, all I know is, my first game with it turned on was on Haddonfield, and it looked like a dang Pixar movie. Did you know that some of the walls in the houses have wallpaper with patterns on them? Just found that out yesterday! IDK what platform you play on but on PS4 this is a massive improvement.

I had never even heard of it before they announced it in the PTB patch notes, and I didn't get to see it in action until it went live. For all I know it's some kind of voodoo magic, but whatever it is, it is a massive improvement graphically and performance-wise on PS4. I could consistently see scratch marks and track survivors using them for the first time in nearly 6 years.
BTW you called it FSR 1.0, does that imply that there are updated versions of FSR they could implement later?

If it only works for Nvidia cards does that mean it couldn't be worked in for the consoles?

Not likely, even if a console have Nvidia card (i don't know if any of them have it) it needs an RTX card.

So messing around with those cards and their options would only benefit PC players? I just don't see them tossing resources and time on stuff that most of the playerbase cannot use. I don't think they use what they call "bandwidth" on that.

This game is so easy to run it really does not need an upscaler in the first place. HOWEVER adding DLSS would definitely be beneficial, considering it's superior anti-aliasing. You could use DLAA which is much better than TAA. This would benefit Nvidia users for sure.

Yeah, FSR 2.0->. You sure it's just not the Sharpness filter that makes your game look good? Because in general FSR has a pretty poor reputation compared to DLSS. Ghosting, shimmering, other artifacts.

Well, the same thing you have said can be said about any multiplataform game and there are a lot with DLSS options, in fact a lot of them didn't have the option at first and introduced it later. Most of the PC playesr have Nvidia card and the card is an RTX at this point, it's not a tiny number of players. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I know our PC cousins have wayyyyyyy more options internally than us consolers.
My point is say you're running a company whose customers are something like 7-8 to 1 on one of the consoles. Where do you put your efforts mostly?

The sharpness is half of it, the other half is the consistent frame rate. If I turn FSR on and off I can see the difference between off (blurry and chunky textures) and on (high detail and smooth edges). The frame rate no longer stuttering is massive though. It used to be I would drop frames constantly, when I got hit, stunned a killer, or activated any exhaustion perk. Huge drops when activating certain powers as killer also. But those haven't happened a single time since I've had FSR turned on. I don't know what the problems you mentioned look like but I haven't seen anything out of the ordinary yet.

I have mine set to 100%.
I tried 50%, 75%, and 90%, but anything lower than 100% looks as bad as having it off. I don't know why that is, but I always keep it 💯. A good way to test it is to adjust the amount while in a survivor lobby with default Bill on the screen. I could see his pants gaining and losing detail as I adjusted the amount.

Probably because they're all console users. It's not very useful to us PC users (as most of us just use DLSS anyway), but for console use I can imagine FSR being really good. It's also fantastic for handheld PCs like steam deck, ROG Ally, Legion Go, etc that use AMD APUs. I use FSR and RSR all the time if the game supports it on my Ally.

It does make the game look nicer on my Switch. I think it looks best for me when set at 75% but I was wondering, is there any performance benefit to setting it to 100%?
I can't really tell myself, but maybe it would make a more noticeable difference on certain maps?

Could you comment on here again when you get a good feel for whether or not it improves the technical performance on Switch? I am really interested to know how it impacts Switch because it seems like Switch players have had it way worse than other console players since launch.

We do have it worse. I also play on Switch, and FSR does seem to significantly improve performance. It might make textures take longer to load in, which is ugly and they already took too long, but a smoother framerate is a relief. I'm actually able to hit Overcharge skillchecks now.
There's still plenty of room for improvements. I think that if they really tried, they could make the Switch version close to the Playstation/Xbox versions, but it would take a lot of code cleanup and optimization.

Ah man I haven't played against Overcharge yet but succeeding those skill checks must feel really satisfying. Good to hear that Switch is performing better.
Something else I noticed on PS4 is that the render distance for environmental objects is significantly farther with FSR on, is that happening on Switch as well? I can actually see objects and other players on the opposite end of most maps now.

Having played a bit more, it does make a big difference performance wise if you crank it all the way up to 100%. The graphics do take a bit of a hit in my opinion, but the better performance is a more than reasonable tradeoff.
Edit: I've found that 75% is the best compromise between improved performance and appearance (for both Killer and Survivor). Still the odd frame rate stutter but it's stable most of the time for me.

I can tell you on Switch it helps with the look of the game tremendously. Unfortunately, I don't see it improving performance in problematic locations such as in the front of the alien space ship. There are a few more pain points that I haven't seen since this update (Skull Merchant bedroom).

It's annoying that it disables every time I restart the game, I have to go into options and re-enable and maximize it every time I launch the game again.

Sounds like a clusterfix for older plattforms like PS4, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox One S or a not so good PC/Notebook.
I tried it on Xbox Series X and couldn't see a difference, i don't understand the slider (0-100%).
But every option added to the game is good. For me, in MP games perfomance is more important than graphics.

It's noticeably sharper and clearer once you enable it. Then adjusting the sharpness is up to your preference, though I find going higher than 40-50% makes little shadow blocks more noticeable on your character.
