Whenever I play a single player game I am literally BLOWN AWAY by how responsive, fluid and slick the controls feel. It makes going back to playing killers, who are purposefully sluggish and clunky, extra painful and its so sad that this is one of the main ways of balancing killers. Maybe thise mean survivor mains would tea-bag and laugh at the killers for being "big dum oafs" and "OMG how could he miss me? He dumb?" a bit less if they realised that its hard-baked into the game mechanics and controls. But who am I trying to fool? Nah ...

While I agree that tunneling is a serious problem, and it's ridiculous that it still hasn't been addressed in more impactful ways, I will say that you didn't really play all too well after getting unhooked, and that your team could have even won if you didn't give up, considering 3 gens were already done.
I do get the frustration though when this happens multiple times in a row. It's a shame this is not being addressed more, seeing as how games are supposed to be fun as a first priority, and DBD just has too many situations where it's not fun.
7 -
100% on purpose.
1 -
I mean thats why people love playing killers like blight and nurse, fast, responsive, still buggy as hell because its dbd and you can't escape bugs (blight has like 5 that he has had since launch) but effective for the effort you put into them
3 -
This really makes me appreciate my own Solo Q games, as of late.
I've been getting some downright cracked teammates.
Had a game vs Trickster on The Game (I brought the offering because I like to fall down the meat chute whenever I have those 'great height' challenges) and we brought it back after 3 people were slugged / 1 injured with 3 gens remaining.
One guy got tunneled out after, but it was pretty intense/fun.
I hope your games get better, but our experiences are definitely chalk and cheese.
4 -
C'mon, you have how many thousands of hours in this game?
Laurie served you on a silver platter, farmed like a big fat pumpkin.
Could he have let you go? Of course. But, you cannot expect the killer to play nice and stupid at the same time. This one is 100% your teams fault, mostly Laurie's. As soon as you got hooked, all three left their gens and ran towards the hook, even continued while getting chased.
For the other videos... yeah, getting tunneled sucks but this is sadly the state of the game now. Also, when will people stop healing under the hook with no healing boosts, especially now that you can see, the killer is not chasing anybody? When will people learn to not unhook in the first ten seconds. People play stupid and expect not getting punished for it.
6 -
I think it works horribly in DBD due to the balance and RNG factors of the game honestly. At least in CoD and Halo the games were pretty balanced and they weren't dealing with the asymmetrical element.
0 -
This isn't meant to be a commentary on OP's gameplay, but I don't understand why survivors insist on healing under the hook. Take 5 seconds to walk to a pallet. It's downright bizarre. So many players will not follow you if you walk to an adjacent tile or wave them over. Many survivors think it's "heal under the hook or don't heal at all".
9 -
I was trying to wrap my head around his comment for a day and still didn't understand why he thought Trickster was at fault here.
Did he want Trickster to walk past the 3 Survivors at Shack, not chase the Laurie that literally walked into him or end his Main Event early so he could personally let HIM escape because BHVR condition Survivors to go 'Oh we got free BT! My teammate will be fine if I unhook them in front of the Killer that's chasing me right now'.
Christ sake... Trickster was just playing the damn game.

it is not garbage for you. your clearly not effective at looping and need second-chances and boosters. for someone that struggles at the chase and off-hook tunneling, it is exact perk you should be using. the perk will make up for your poor play. DS is also not bad. it gives second chances but requires you to die near pallets to use it as second-life. The reason why survivor say it is bad is because people that are using DS are often player like you that struggle at looping. so they get second-chance than die 10 second later. It is not perk fault. it is your looping skills that make no use out of it. Still, a second chance is better then no chance at all especially for you.
Like I said, I don't think these perk will stop you from getting tunneled because killer will still see you as weak-link however it will provide safety nets for your poor plays which might do something.
2 -
I am well aware. He had a free down on Laurie and actually completely gave it up to chase and then hook me. She got up and reset with two other people.
He also had PR and PGTW, further proving that giving Killers gen regression for not tunneling won't work.
There also wasn't any reason to tunnel me after my next hook and hump me on the ground.
4 -
What actions do you want the devs to take? Maybe I missed it in your other comments above, but I genuinely want to know what changes you would suggest to make the survivor experience better without making the game even more difficult for killer players than it already is.
We could get a bunch of killer players posting videos showing how broken coordinated SWF is or how broken many maps are with multiple connected safe loops that make it easy to extend chases to multiple minutes - should those be taken as proof that the devs need to nerf survivors?
2 -
I don't think the game is particularly hard for Killers.
Frustrating? Sure, but not difficult.
7 -
Well, Laurie on the ground and you on second hook, PR is complete RNG and he still got POP for hooking you - much more advantageous than hooking Laurie for the first time.
And yes, no incentive will make people not tunnel the first guy out. I know, some people claim this, but as long as the gameplay loop doesn't change, no incentive will help. Dev's could incentivice people to do totems by making it worth thousands of BPs, people will still ignore them and cry about NOED. Incentives never work.
And the reason to tunnel you again... you were on death hook, nothing more to add. For the humping, maybe the player is just an ass, maybe a frustrated one.
Of course the game is not hard if you tunnel the first guy out against teams like shown in your clips.
That's why I practically stopped playing killer. I was one of those nice, "fair" killers, because I also played a lot of survivor. But the gameplay loop changed and I could either adapt by tunneling and camping or become he clown in most matches, getting teabagged at the exit gate with around 8 hooks and then trashtalked. So now I'm basically only playing killer for events, if even (and some games of Singularity here and there because they are just awesome ;) ).
This might sound a little bit philosophical now but, difficulty makes people want to become better, frustration turns people into jackasses. And current DBD is the best proof for this.
5 -
I am not saying I solely BLAME him for it, but to say it isn't partially his fault is incorrect.
It's like matching up 4 Solo's against a comp Blight. Is it a skill issue? Yes. It it their fault? Absolutely not.
Same in this case. Did he choose to play like an ass? Yes. Is he to blame entirely? No.

It’s a team game. If your teammates don’t pull their weight, you will lose. There is no solution because you can’t fix dumb teammates.
5 -
That one wasn't even on my teammates.
His perks afforded him so much extra time that it didn't matter that, for once, I did WELL in a chase.
1 -
Yeah basekit BT does literally nothing sometimes. When i’m in this situation against trickster I hide behind the little hay bale next to the pallet, saved me a couple of times.

I meant to refer to your other post. Either way, the killer should be more powerful in chase than an individual survivor: it’s 4v1. Skill expression barely matters in this game and really never has.
5 -
I had a match today with Blight. He only tunneled me and while I got sacrificed the rest of the team managed to escape.
It was on Backwater.
I asked him why he was tunneling: "Because I don't see anything on this map and you are all sneaky..."

Lots of mistakes here. First you decided to launch this game, which was at least a questionable decision. Then, you decided to play solo queue: this was a MASSIVE blunder. At that point, you were already completely lost. Then, you could have played a bit better during the match, but honestly that was too late as this point.

Two things which come to mind regarding the issue of Survivor skill, which feels like it does have long-term issues within the game:
1. The desire to win versus the desire to learn. People wants to win, of course! However, this is prioritised over wanting to learn the game. Learning loops, gaining experience of when to make the save, take the chase or sit on gens .. other things too, but it takes time and people aren't willing to wait long enough for this; searching for wins over gaining experience. This goes to my second point.
2. Perks over skill. To get that win, there is a desire to get all the best perks and this then gets people to become too heavily reliant on those Perks. Sure, Lithe, Sprint Burst and Off the Record are useful, but when someone hasn't got the experience of relying on their own skills at avoiding, evading and out-playing the Killer, they've only gained a few seconds of extra freedom.
I cannot stress how important patience, experience and practice are, as well as how heavily overlooked they are. I wish more people took that view.
Hoping your games get better.

I'm giving Laurie a pass. Steve imitated killing himself on hook. I consider those suicide threats and unhook them before they do. I love OP, but any gesture like that on the hook is interpreted that way.

“I don't think the game is particularly hard for Killers.”
It’s not. At all.
I also play the role, as well as frequently watching sets of matches from various levels of players to see the ratio of 4K matches, all the while personally vibing with honest players irl who concur and understand this truth.
DBD has become increasingly easier for Killer players; dramatically easy-mode over the last 2 years.
Players know and understand this truth (especially Killer Mains) and opt into a stance of hard denial (especially on the forums and in polls) so the Developers will continue to hold Killer player’s hands and serve up the most simplistic 4K possible.
Buffs to sweeten the experience for new Killer players have only handed over the entire candy factory to those who’ve invested multi-K hours and effortlessly dominate the role.
Developers have opted to raise up SWF like it was Simba in the Lion King, while disowning the unloved SoloQ child altogether; It’ll be a hud here and a hud there, moving forward, but true balancing efforts have lost their significance.
I do believe Devs will address Tunneling by way of a restructuring of ‘ground rules’ for necessity ‘strat Tunneling,’ and punishingly regulating the toxic variety of Tunnelers. Though, at the slog rate to which needed changes are brought about (or never are) in this game, unfortunately, anyone holding their breath is already long time dead.

So, I don't have a recording of it, but let me share my experience:
First (and probably only) survivor trial of the day I got The Pale Rose. I was really excited for a second because it is one of the two maps in the game that I still enjoy, so I thought it was going to be a good match.
And what do I get?
1- Tunneling Huntress
2- Mikaela disconnects before her first hook
3- Yui farms me
Welcome to modern DBD, I suppose. All that we were missing was a ruined reworked map and a new "hold W pre-drop everything" killer.
Then we would have the full package.
4 -
Me too then at 4th Gen I get hooked and die on first hook. I am DCing anymore because this camping and tunneling out BS is out of hand already. I am just going to buy Dead Island 2 and start playing that instead.
BHVR has two options stop giving updates on what what nerfs or updates to killers, perks, or survivors they intend to do. This will eliminate toxic behavior and toddler mentality.
Other option separate players by age groups. Let the crotch gobblins play amongst themselves since they can't play well with others.

Sure they will eventually probably have to deal with hard tunneling, the exact same way they deal with most everything.
Band-aids and half measures with no discernible difference at all.
1 -
You don't know about the camp dance?
5 -
Educate me. I have never heard that term 😆
1 -
Maybe it's an old DBD thing but if you wave your arms like that (or faster) it meant the Killer was camping.
That's what I use it for.
5 -
I use Kindred and people do that all the time even when I can clearly see the killer is not camping.
I know that was an old thing, I had never heard that expression though.
Also, Steve is one of the most suicidal players lol.
I hate saying that because he's my 2nd highest Prestige character, but yeah, Steve, Laurie, Leon and David are most likely to give up on 1st hook.
2 -
Yep, it has always been an useful sort of code.
Wave your arms if the killer is camping, stand still if it is safe to rescue you. I always do it, it is just instinct at this point.
0 -
The camp dance was flapping your arms really fast, usually never touching the hook. A slow self unhook, in my experience, was usually taken as ‘come get me’ or ‘I give up.’
Trickster wasn’t even camping though so I don’t see why you were warning them of camping anyway, especially when he was right next to all 3 of them. I can definitely see why Laurie may have taken that as a sign of you giving up but I still think it was a massive misplay on her part.
3 -
He was literally still in the vicinity and they were already coming towards me.
All of them.
1 -
Still not camping but I can understand what you were trying to do and don’t blame you. Completely Laurie’s fault still.

"Players know and understand this truth (especially Killer Mains) and opt into a stance of hard denial (especially on the forums and in polls) so the Developers will continue to hold Killer player’s hands and serve up the most simplistic 4K possible"
I was involved in a discussion on this on Twitch, about how frequent killer complaints are these days despite the role being easier to play than ever before. And the conclusion reached was that the devs allowed the gen kick meta to go on for too long. It's why so many complaints about gen regression perks still dominate too. The success of that time is cemented in so many minds that it's become the standard for what *should* be happening, as opposed to an unfortunate circumstance of perfect synergy between a select few reworked perks.
So I don't know whether it's true that these players "know" these truths, as opposed to them having expectations that will honestly never be met.
3 -
I think the problem is simply the lack of fun.
The general complaints from the killer side recently mostly revolve around gens flying, while most survivors are complaining about gen regression perks. Though one thing is deeply connected to the other.
It is unreasonable to expect survivors to do anything other than gens at this point. Everything else they could do (namely: totems, healing and chases) has suffered so much with unnecessary changes that essentially there is no choice but to commit to the objective you have left, or you lose the trial.
To counter that, killers stack slowdown perks. And naturally, no one has fun.
2 -
Lack of fun is definitely a factor.
Survivors complaining about gen regression though shows that it's still decent and having an impact, which isn't a bad thing. IMO PR+PGTW are massively effective in every game I see them in (which is most lol), and I personally think they're fine because they're setting back progression but not stopping it completely. I do see alot of killers complaining that the opposite is true, that gen regression is not good enough and usually theyll refer back to the start of year nerfs. Which of course happened because of the gen kick meta era when they could literally halt progression as opposed to just setting it back. That's become the standard on which too many killers base the current state of killer (imo anyway, though it was a shared consensus in the discussion).
2 -
The second they disable MMR is the second DBD will be a fun game again.
2 -
I agree.
And it does leads to the conclusion that something has to be done.
2 -
I'm actually on a break from the game now. Been for a month. Won't come back even for this christmas event thats going on.
I got tired facing nurses and blights everyday and teammates that use the most selfish builds and won't even save with 0 hooks in them. After having 5 blights and 2 nurses in one day where i played for little over 2 hours i was done. 3500 hours or so well spend but time to relax for now.
I might come back in few months to test the waters but for now i'll just lurk and read stuff about the game and enjoy less toxic games for a while.
1 -
This, plus the removal of the pip system. Guess we only have to wait five years for it, but hey, at least we all can buy cool outfits.
2 -
At least you can play games :D The amount of cheaters that are again rising up are giving me a new dead by daylight vacation.

It's insane how little accountability this community has. It can't possibly be that I played bad, its my team/the killer/the killer's perks/addons/offering/the map/the lag.
If that's your thought process then for the sake of yourself and the game, stop playing. As seen in the videos, this mindset makes you play poorly and worse it deludes (probably not a word) you into thinking you aren't playing poorly.
That's not even mentioning the nuance behind the playerbase; the reality is that most people playing dbd don't spend a ton of time on the forums(and more). How can I blame someone for not following made up rules that the community put in place? What right do I have to shame someone for not playing perfectly (unlike ME of course, I'M a god at the game).
If you're not enjoying the game that's fine, but that's strictly a YOU problem. Own that, don't blame other people because you're not having fun.
4 -
My apologies, I should've simply chosen my teammates, Killer and altered map geometry to suit my needs.
6 -
How so? In the rare occurrence that the killer will focus you the entire match so your inefficient team actually does generators (maybe.) 99% of the time if I can run the killer well they'll just leave me an insta-down the next survivor, like they can't even hold w.
0 -
Completely and utterly failed at seeing the point, and further proving my point. You cannot change those factors, and you do not know anything about the other players skill level, intentions, or thought process. This is true for EVERY multiplayer game that has even the tiniest inkling of being competitive. Sometimes you just get bad teammates or the other team was simply better than you. That in no way somehow means other players are responsible for your fun, YOU are.
You CAN control your outlook on the game and what you do. This is genuinely stuff we learn as children; you can still have fun and lose. If you want to be super negative and blame everyone else for you not having fun, then that's on you.
Even if you have the worst match ever where its objectively NOT FUN, (its a 3 genning skull merchant on midwich who's bleeding everyone out at 5 gens oh and all your teammates dc'd instantly), what is getting upset going to do? It's pixels on a screen that are moving in a way you don't like, and unlike in the real world, you have the ability to move your eyeballs in a different direction and completely eliminate the problem.
And you know what? In other video game communities, we laugh at people who complain about their teammates because more often than not, the ones complaining are the problem. In other communities, we acknowledge and understand that not everyone is at a high skill level and we cannot expect them to know the correct way to play, and the shitheads that shame newer or inexperienced players are ignored or reported.
7 -
I still completely blame the battlepass for games like this. If a survivor is throwing the game it's usually because they're tunnel visioning their battlepass. I blame it more on the battlepass only lets you do one very specific thing per game and not everyone has the time to deviate away from getting their rewards.
3 -
Damn that Chucky really want the gens regressed.
