Distortion and tunneling.
My question is does distortion cause you to inadvertently tunnel? I generally consider myself a pretty fair playing killer. I don't camp or tunnel very much and I sometimes let the last survivor go after I have finished getting to red rank 1 every month. But I run a fair amount of aura reads and with distortion entering the meta that has changed. I still run a couple aura reads most of the time and I find myself tunneling 1 or 2 survivors out almost every game that distortion is in because I can't see the other survivors and I take what BBQ or floods or rage give me. My wins and losses are about the same ratio as always but when i 4k the distortion survivors are often dying on first hook after the non distortions go early. Not trying to complain about distortion just asking other killers is this your experience too?

I don't use aura reads in my favorite builds. Just make the survivors run a little

I run Lethal Pursuer on almost all my builds as killer. I've noticed that as my MMR has gone up, the amount of Distortion users has gone up as well. I used to get no distortion users in my games and now I'll sometimes have matches where there's 2-3 survivors running it. I don't purposely tunnel or camp (unless I absolutely need to) but I sort of just go by the "if I see you, I chase you" motto. I don't really focus on whether "x survivor was just hooked so I must not chase them". I just play and go with the flow.

I suggest you use instead Distortion or Ultimate Weapon to ignore distortion. You get consistent info at all times.

I expect a ultimate weapon nerf and discordance becomes less reliable in high MMR due to splitting on gens. My current aura perks are still working I'm just curious if others are doing more incidental tunneling due to the change too

If I can't find you, then I can't chase you. So I will chase whoever I can find. It's that simple.

If you can't find survivors without aura perks then that says more about your skill rather than anything wrong with the game.

youre quite literally stubbing your own toe playing the way survivors want aka not camping, tunneling, and letting them go. youre not "playing fair" youre playing in their favor

they could also just want to play for fun. there is nothing engaging about sitting at the hook half the game.

I don't use Distortion but I've noticed a lot more team mates are using it and i honestly can't say I've noticed a difference in my games. If anything, my escape rate has actually increased the last week.

i chase who i can see tho i hate when I'm hooking survivors there always this one who never hooked till the end if not at all.

Yep. I have many a survivor b**ch at me for tunneling them, when I’m running full aura and two of their teammates have distortion.

Technically they were right, you punished survivors who dont use Distortion.
Similar when killers complain about survivors use multiple second chances but out right tunnel survivors who dont use. Which, force them to use multiple second chances.
We can realize, people dont use Distortion because they dont want to get chase, hiding all the game. People use Distortion so they will not be the only one killers see their aura.

not really distortion but the players who tend to run it will 100% bait their recently unhooked teammates.

There's a lot of things that cause me to tunnel. Mainly because a part of the survivor community is horrible at macro play so when i try to leave hook to find someone they exhaustion to some sort of super strong tile thats guaranteed to waste a lot of time. Which if I want to get a 3-4k playing more efficiently is then needed after that.

I kind of have the same issue, I used to run BBQ on all killers, but barely got value out of it anymore due to distortion, and now I just chase who I can find... I cannot be asked to check all the bushes for those super stealthy players... It didn't really get harder, just more annoying because I don't like to tunnel guys but I'm also not checking every hiding spot until all gens are done.

It's less a case of, "Can't find" and more a case of, "When time is a limited resource and two people are hiding while two are not, said limited resource is better spent chasing the more available targets." Kick Survivors now, kick bushes later.

As someone who regularly runs Lethal Pursuer and tries to 2-hook everyone before sacrifices (ideally), yes it's quite noticeable when the game starts with only 3 visible survivor aura's and there's one survivor I just never see despite going out of my way to look for them.
That said, I wouldn't ask for Distortion nerfs. My playstyle is mine, no killer is obligated to 2-hook or avoid accidentally tunneling, and no survivor is obligated to play altruisticly.

A survivor doing their fair share of chases isn’t them being altruistic. It just means the player isn’t playing selfishly.
We aren’t asking for BHVR to force survivors to play altruistically. We’re just asking BHVR to nerf a playstyle that’s selfish and damaging to the rest of the survivors.

Being a 'selfish survivor' is a valid playstyle. It's not just Distortion, there's Sole Survivor, Self Preservation, etc.

To your POV, you play the game normally. To survivors who dont use Distortion, all they see is you just coming back for them, and they have no idea until out of the game seeing all teammates have Distortion.
I just explain, why survivors who dont use Distortion pitching about tunneling, because they have the right. You said like they use Distortion so they should not complain about being tunneled.

Their complaint shouldn’t be with me, but with their distortion gamer teammates. Distortion is the sole cause of them being “tunneled”.

The killer player chooses to return to the hook.
The killer player chooses to not take a second to look for another survivor.
The killer player chooses to tunnel out the player that was hooked.
The killer player chooses to rely on aura reading perks to find survivors.
Distortion doesn't seem like the sole cause here. The root cause though seems to be the killer's inability to find survivors without using aura reading perks.

Exactly....I never thought when I started this game that time management would be one of the most important skills a killer needs.

It's not a inability to find survivors. But if you have a aura read you know where someone is so why would you look elsewhere? It's less of tunneling then cycling. The two survivors without distortion. Will get hook stages and the others will be ignored.

I can find survivors without aura reads but it is all about time management. I have around 3k hours in DBD at this point so I'm getting pretty good survivors. There isn't time to waste looking for survivors while gens pop. I run floods of rage a lot to find new targets when survivors get unhooked and gearhead to locate new survivors. It is all about the dash and smash on Oni. But I'm generally bouncing back and forth between the 1 to 3 survivors not using distortion because those are the targets I have. I'm not here to argue about tunneling I'm here to ask if it is causing the same playstyle for other killers.
