is there a way to turn off the auto aim?
pc plyers with wasd are almost impossible to hit sometimes because they can spin in such tight circles it screws the auto aim

No and aim assist only screws you when near objects. Survivors spinning is taking advantage of killer piss poor FoV. If a survivor spins you thats a skill issue. Try not lunging an taping M1 instead, turn with the survivor, or wait out the spin then hit them.

Once you confirm a survivor is gonna spin the best thing to do is to stop moving and walk backwards a little bit. They'll either spin further in range, or they'll run into you like a brick wall.

sometimes auto aim makes me short swing for some reason.

Tap the attack button rather than lunge when they spin and the auto aim will hit them for you. Lunging can make the attack end earlier than intended.

assuming this is in response to my comment, it doesn't happen when people spin but rather when they "wiggle". rarely happens though.

My comment was in response to the OP not you.
The short swing issue has no way to play around that I know of and is really annoying.

The devs claim aim assist doesn't exist in DBD, and what we have instead is "aim-dressing" where it makes hits look prettier. The game arbitrarily making you swing at a doorframe is just mass hallucinations.

Killers are forbidden to lunge if they are too close to a survivor. It doesn't matter if a killer is holding a direction and the M1 button at the same time, because the game will force a short M1 tap attack if the killer tries to attack while right next to a survivor.
This means that killers have an M1 deadzone, that is near the max length of the forced M1 zone. M1 attacks are unreliable in the M1 deadzone. Survivor 360s try to trigger this bug, hoping that when the killer starts to hold M1, that the killer is close enough to get a forced short M1 attack, but when hit validation happens the killer is too far away for a short M1 attack to succeed.
Here is the bug post for this issue, that was pending for 7 months, and just went under review yesterday. This issue happens 100% of the time. Just try to lunge while standing next to a survivor, and notice the lunge doesn’t happen. It’s mind boggling that after 7 months, this bug still hasn’t been acknowledged by BHVR.

Survivors spinning is also taking advantage of the forced short M1 attack bug, that can steal hits from killers. It's a game bug that most people don't know exists, but it's still one of the major reasons why 360s can cause missed attacks.

see, I try that, but I still get launched into the middle of nowhere
