What is the point of skill checks?
People never miss it unless you're baby new to the game? What is the point. The whole system is outdated and needs a rework.

Gens would be more boring than they already are without skillchecks
25 -
People miss skill checks all the time even with years of experience. Plus there's the likes of Unnerving Presence, Huntress Lullaby, Madness, etc.
28 -
So that every time we leave a gen it explodes
39 -
Not in my matches. Not once have I had a survivor blown up a generator or miss a healing skill check.
5 -
You would be surprised just how often players miss skillchecks.
11 -
It checks the skill and condemns the unskilled.
3 -
I'm very happy for you.
You should feel so proud.
13 -
Aside from perks related to them, they are there to keep you sharp and make you pay attention I guess.
2 -
Even streamers with years of experience still occasionally miss skill checks. They also allow for perks on either side to reward skill checks more or to make them harder. And skill check Doctor DOES mess many people up.
Also gens would be even more boring without them.
6 -
strongly doubt that.
Do you never hear a loud noise notif that can't be explained by a vault or an unhook?
4 -
Because holding m1 on a gen for 90 seconds would be extremely boring without them.
4 -
At least you could do something more fun in the meantime? I don't know I would prefer it if there were some other mini games to do in the mean time, I don't even think they should necessarily reduce your speed if you fail them maybe just work as hitting a great if you do it properly, they could be quite hard to make it worth while, but it is just sooooo boring to do those skillchecks.

I run huntress lullaby on a few of my builds and yeah... plenty of ppl miss skillchecks. It's especially funny doing it on Pig with the addons that cause missed skillchecks to injure ppl.
2 -
People who have their sound muted or are deaf irl can hit skillchecks like a pro.
0 -
i'm going to make you sad... huntress lullaby does not work with pig traps
1 -
Almo nerfed huntress lullaby pig cus it was too oppressive same with doctors skillchecks
1 -
I don't think skill checks are meant to be difficult. I think it's intended for most players to make good skill checks 99% of the time.
I think the real purpose is to draw your attention away from the rest of the game for a second or two. I'm constantly moving the camera and watching for the killer while repairing, but a skill check at the wrong moment could distract me enough for the killer to get the upper hand.

Skill checks exist both to provide a little mechanical challenge before they're mastered (a minor learning curve that can be satisfying to overcome, especially if you're going for Great results rather than Good which is much harder, I can't consistently do that myself), and to add a little extra tension to being static and - ostensibly - vulnerable.
You need to look out for the killer, but you also have to look away from your surroundings to hit the skillcheck. It's not much, but it does add a little bit to the atmosphere.
3 -
Sometimes miss some myself when i'm looking away at something else going on in the background in game and out. Also miss some from the occasional sneeze or urge to scratch an itch. XD

This is untrue simply by the fact huntress lullaby does not affect pig box skill checks. And because no one with over 50 hours will ever fail a pig box skillcheck unless pig interrupts them.
0 -
That blows, when did that happen?

I wish I got paired with the survivors you see in your games. As a survivor main I'm rarely in a match where I don't see other survivors blow skill checks at least a couple times.
I would even go so far as to say in just my personal experience that missed skill checks are the most costly mistakes I see survivors make on a regular basis. Having to stop working a gen that would have otherwise been completed or not be able to finish healing someone can make a huge difference in the outcome of a match.

Skill checks exist so my solo queue teammates can blow up generators that I'm working on. They also serve as an activator for a ton of survivor perks and also some killer ones, can't exactly be removed now.

4.3.0 iirc.
I think it was also bugged again early this year.
0 -
Do you want to make survivor even more boring and mindless than it already is outside of chases?
No thanks.
2 -
You are not supposed to fall asleep while doing gens.
2 -
That would make sense since I ran that build earlier this year. Was kinda funny any time I'd see people go down from deep wounds at a box.

To make doing gens less boring and quite a few perks and addons interact with it to.
0 -
to make you pay attention. and divert it
0 -
To keep me from losing consciousness from boredom while doing gens.
1 -
To prevent you from scratching your nose while on gens.

"outdated"
Skill checks are there to keep the player engaged in the game. How would you think gen repair would go without something demanding attention?
1 -
Another lullaby enthusiast?
Im addicted to this perk.

I love how so many think that every single player over X hours is suddenly totally CRACKED
0 -
They are NOT cracked, its just that in order to fail a pig skillcheck you have to actually try and fail it. Only new people or people that are interrupted by pig fail those.
0 -
I got curious and looked it up. It was working on Pig boxes til 7.1.1, which was August 1st.
0 -
That's just not true. I I doubt the players I go against are purposely failing their skill checks. But hey, I guess it's possible.
0 -
Its the only way they are failing such an easy skillcheck, like maybe an overcharge skillcheck might be excusable but a pig box skillcheck has NO excuse being missed (if pig doesnt interrumpt you).
0 -
Just because you think they have "no excuse" doesn't mean it isn't happening. But hey, okay. I get a lot of survivors throwing their skill checks then on my traps. Must be why I get such easy 4Ks with Video Tape. So when will my MMR be high enough that people stop throwing their skill checks?
0 -
The fact that most people are really bad at the game will guarantee even a meme killer like pig can 4k, because the average player is horrid at this game (old sadako had a high killrate, a killer with essentially no power had a high killrate, legit how?), also regarding what you said, even after the mmr softcap, it is still a mix of like 90% potatoes and maybe the unusual team that actually know what they are doing. So even as easy as skillchecks are some people will somehow mess then, I still think its inexcusable to fail such an easy skillcheck as pig boxes but specially in dbd people will search for any excuse to avoid admiting they are awfull at the game.
0 -
I mean whether there is an excuse or not, doesn't make what you originally said true. You said that nobody fails skill checks unless it's on purpose, and that's just not true. So, either you think nobody ever fails skill checks, or you think that the average player is horrid at the game. Both can't be true.
0 -
Absolutelly true, and for the record you got it right, the average dbd player is incredibly bad at the game, evidence of it is meme killers like old sadako and pig having such a high killrate when any decent survivor should loop them until dbd 2 is released.
0 -
Well, is Legion a meme killer? Is Trapper a meme killer? What is a "meme killer" to you?
0 -
I don't often miss skill checks, but 95% of the time it's in the nanosecond I let go of the damned thing. As predictable as the sunrise.
They should code it so that if a skill check is initiated within like .25 seconds of the button being released, it's just canceled.
As for the OP: everyone misses the occasional skill check (especially versus certain builds and/or Doctor), and if there weren't anything to do, doing gens would be even more boring ass dead time than it already is. My ADHD has me fighting not to look at my phone or surf the net while working on gens as it is.
1 -
Add a possibility of failure and splitting your attention even if it's for a second. Think of it as your character fixing a mistake or adjusting a wire quickly on the generator to prevent an explosion or keeping calm and not fumbling while mending a wound.
0 -
Yes and yes, a meme killer is mostly an m1 killer that is so easy to beat you have to be memeing or really bad in order to lose to them, other examples are freddy and ghostface.

My friend has been playing since August daily and misses them constantly
._.

I’m sorry that you can’t browse tiktok while doing gens and looking at the HUD occasionally to ensure you aren’t being chased
0 -
Idk, to keep us paying attention to the game I guess. If there were no skill checks whatsoever and all I had to do was hold a button to repair a gen, then I would likely get bored fast and start browsing the internet or something.

This. I have 7k Hours- still miss the most basic skill check but never a overcharge one. My brain is build different.
