DBD could potentially be getting an Alan Wake killer in the future according to a Discord Press Q&A
Sources
TL;DR Version: The Chapter's development started prior to the release of Alan Wake 2 and thus was mainly focusing on Alan Wake 1 material and at the time, the devs considered antagonists like The Dark Presence & Mr. Scratch to be too close to The Entity and was "impossible to conceptualise as a playable killer", however the devs have since then played Alan Wake 2 and have said that there some great monsters in that game that could come in later down the line.

Maybe unpopular opinion but I really don't care about Alan Wake and I don't know why its being pushed everywhere and so hard

Kind of agree here, I wasnt even aware of the franchise beforehand. Might change my view on it if ever I play the games tho

Got the games in a sale a few weeks ago. Haven’t played them yet and am kinda excited.
Dont know why it got so many ‚haters‘ that don’t even know anything about it? From everything I know about it, it’s a pretty good fit for DbD.. and getting a killer added later would also be a good precedent. (Though I think L4D will still not be considered to get new content because no monetary gains, right?)

If they have a good idea for a killer that's fun to play, go for it. Though it would be weird to have Alan Wake the survivor and an Alan Wake killer in completely separate DLCs. They could merge them into one pack, sell them separately, or the more interesting option, the second Alan Wake chapter includes both a killer and another playable survivor such as Saga Anderson, the second protagonist of Alan Wake 2. That's the option I would like most, I'd totally play as a psychic FBI agent.

People have been acting weirdly bitter over a half-chapter. I don't really understand it either.
1 -
It’s not like the devs decided to now bring Alan Wake over another license… like.. it’s not ‚either or‘, it’s just one addition that is not taking a spot as we don’t really have finite spots at this point…
3 -
Just because you don't care, that doesn't mean others don't care either.

Yes thats why I said unpopular opinion didn't say my word was gold

Same, bought Alan Wake 1 & American Nightmare yersterday in preperation for the chapter, planning on buying Control for the Alan Wake dlc too, probably gonna watch AW2 on youtube to avoid paying epic any money.
I honestly don't remember any of the other standalone Survivor chapters getting this kind of attitude from the community, so it's weird why people would be against this one all of the sudden, just because it's not the license they wanted. Then again, it's not really surprising considering alot of DBD players don't play anything outside of DBD.
and yes, any valve IP cannot be charged for money, so we'll most likely never get a full chapter from it, or at least we'll never get any legendary skins.

This is true, but in my opinion the game is oversaturated with survivors. We have too many survivor perks, most of them arent all that good. We definitely didn't need an original double-survivor chapter last year (could have simply been a legendary skin) and we don't need extra survivor chapters either.
It probably would have been better if we we got Nick Cage as the counterpart to Chucky, and saved Alan Wake for a full chapter with a killer.

Or you can save yourself the stress by playing Alan Wake instead of a facsimile of it.

I mean, i am playing Alan Wake, started yersterday in fact and is planning on playing the rest of the games as well.

Oh completely agreed on that.
double survivor chapters aren’t really necessary at all, see Cheryl and legendarys. But especially the Lyra siblings -while very cool designs- feel super unnecessary and the few perks that are interesting from them (well. Only Backgroundplayer which needed a complete overhaul) could have gone to someone else.

I've never heard of Alan Wake prior to DBD but I'm happy for those that are fans of the franchise. If Alan Wake gets a killer, then awesome! The franchise has its fair share of fans in the DBD community so there'll be people happy for its inclusion in the fog, and we should be happy for them.
All that really matters to me is a character with good perks, and a killer that's fun for both sides.

IDK, as someone not excited for the update because I have only basic familiarity with the IP: It's hard to get excited about any survivor anymore, for starters. Without interesting perks, the character's appeal is the entire selling point, and so with a licensed survivor, especially one with releasing without a killer, there's an expectation that the character sells themselves. But when the character is from a lesser-known IP like AW, for a lot of people it doesn't quite do that. This is certainly the least notorious IP we've ever gotten a full character from.
If they do end up adding a killer from the franchise I doubt it would be nearly as contentious, which isn't to say that the backlash to AW was that bad in the first place.

It's a shame that due to the lack of monetary gains that we won't see that many Valve collaborations. However I would still love for potential collabs with Valve again, such as legendary skins for Singularity of GLaDOS and maybe even Wheatley for the comedic voicelines. Also Coach from L4D2 as a legendary survivor skin would be gold. BBQ bacon burger.

It's not an unpopular opinion. It's critically acclaimed, so it's a hot topic for the industry which is why journalists talk about it a lot and why collabs are happening.
I am happy about Alan Wake DLC but i can understand why people are disappointed. It wasn't a popular request. I personally never heard of Alan Wake until i saw it on PS Plus monthly games. I think most people did not play Alan Wake 2, considering the first one was in 2010.
A lot of people don't find his appearance appealing as a skin and his perks are not popular. So if you don't like or know or are not interested in Alan Wake then you probably won't like this DLC at all. I think a lot of people are in that position.
The DLC being something that a lot of people don't like means they have to wait longer for one they may like. We don't know when the next standalone survivor will be so for people that want Elvira or maybe another real life survivor, they don't how long they will have to wait.

I'd be psyched to have Mr. S̷̢̥͐̇͑c̴̢̘̀̂r̶̗̳̃̓̔̏ạ̶̛̌̈̓ͅṯ̵̦̹̯̂͐̎̚c̶̙͉̻̖͇͂̌̋ḩ̶̟͕̼̆̆ͅ as a killer. Incredibly charismatic and creepy dude.

But it’s not like there was a designated spot for a standalone survivor that was to be filled as far as we know.
survivors can be added more frequently as we have just seen - we got two standalone survs (Cage and Alan), while two two-surv chapters were pretty recent (Lyra, Resident Evil).
they never knew how long they had to wait for Elvira or someone else before. It’s not the fault of Alan Wakes inclusion at all and hating on a character because of that feels super weird when you know there are many others happy about this inclusion..
3 -
I really don't want another real-life survivor. I want Nic Cage to remain a one-off thing.
2 -
His perks don't look any good either you'll probably see him once every 10 games once he comes out and his perks even less
1 -
People don't really play survivors because of their perks. You're just being bitter at people for enjoying something that doesn't appeal to you.
1 -
What is this? Where am I bitter? No where did I even imply i'm bitter I said unpopular opinion but I don't care no one's bitter except maybe you mate.
1 -
You're not, but people love throwing buzz words at people with different opinions. What you stated is true though, his perks are kinda meh so when people get him to p3 majority of people will swap back to their survivor mains.

Going into a conversation to announce how much you don't care about the conversation doesn't contribute anything and you have no reason to do it other than dragging people down.
