We deployed a fix to solve an issue preventing players from unhooking, healing or picking up Survivors. Players will need to reboot to see the change reflected in-game. Thank you for your patience!

The Hillbilly: How to not learn from the past

Many here know the old Billy and what a competent killer he used to be before his over the top nerf. He was contesting Spirt, a much more powerful version of the current Spirit we have right now, for the No. 2 spot on strongest killer in the game.

His only issue back at that time were two things, and two things only:

  • The Thompson Mix
  • Carburetto Tuning guide

This was know as "Insta Saw Billy", which basically made the killer overpowered by litteraly having no Cooldown after a chainsaw sprint. That again gave survivors almost no chance/no distance to run for safety, no matter in what situations they were. Other then that, Hillbilly was perfectly fine. The entire community, no matter if killer or survivor main, everybody was on the same page!!!! Instead of just nerfing the only 2 issues (his 2 insta saw addson) he had, BHVR made some questionable dicissions by doing a rework NOBODY really asked for.

At least now, after many years, you decided to listen (?) to the feedback and made a big change to Billy in some regards. I mean, you had tons of feedback, almost all feedback beeing exactly the same. Surely it is impossible to mess that up, right? Right?

Present day: We have the by far the strongest version of Hillbilly. His speed even tops Doom + Death Engravings combo, his charge speed is faster, bumping into walls is much more forgiving......

And they added Insta saw Billy back to the game.

WHAT THE?

Dear BHVR. Are you unable to learned from your past mistakes? It is literraly the exact same mistake you did with the old Billy before. Have you fogotten OR SERIOUSLY MISSUNDERSTOOD why you nerfed Billy in the first place? Do you even read the tons of feedback that are litteraly all the same over and over gain about the different versions of Hillbily? HOW is is possible that this makes it past the PTB after countless feedback?

Are we completly unable to learn from the past, BHVR? Or was it your goal to create a lot of controversy so you stay relevant in a very strange way? I have no clue about your motivations anymore, the only thing we know for sure is that it makes absolutly zero sense what you are even doing at this point.

How can a developer, who should be very experienced with their own product, bring back THE old mistake on a character in a stronger version? Mindblowing.

We hope for the best, but at this point, i am not sure anymore what that even means.

Insta saw was stacking charge speed, and I think his brown version gave 12% alone. Think yellow+brown charge speed ended up giving 30% charge speed. You could also use tinkerer to increase that further.

yeah i dont get the thing saying "hes stronger than old instasaw" when with both the charge rate addons and tinkerer he had like 20% more charge speed than he does in his current form even with overdrive. And you also had all the other benefits like lesser bump, lesser cooldown. Ect.

    And this was without tinkerer.

The only one i could find with tinkerer was montos video from back then.

Where the saw rev noise wouldnt even finish by the time he would hit you. Its hardly comparable to his newer version especially when his bump was near instantaneous with this build as well as you also see in montos video. so he could miss the saw. instadown you anyway. Bump. Instadown you anyway. Find you anywhere. instadown you anyway. They arent even close to "comparable"

Just because he was gutted for a while, it doesn't mean that now he deserves to be as overtuned as he is. BHVR just has to adjust some numbers and it'll feel a lot healthier for the game. With time survivors won't learn any meaningful counterplay, whilst Billys will get the hang of overdrive and dominate. I never even played the reworked Billy before since I play on controller (and I experience every cap lock real bad) and I managed a 2K on my first game whilst spreading hooks. I think I might've played two games with gutted Billy and got humiliated so I just stopped.

Of course it is a stronger version, not even a hot topic by any means. Pre running against Billy is the best way to deal with him. Since his insane speed now, this is a thing from the past. His now even lower base CD on missed chainsaw with CDR addons makes survivors go absolutly nowhere. The ultimate issue we had with the older version of Billy.

Yea just nerf him allready so we can stop playing him and go back to our usual cast of top tier killers but don't be suprised when your games diversity in matches decreases again.

He doesn't have instasaw. Only thing that might need to be nerfed are the cooldown add-ons or at least make them not stack together. His base kit is fine. If they will go back and again nerf his base kit to make him more clunky and punishing, people will play him less again and he will be weaker. There are still few killers who are better than him, some of them by a mile.

So you tell me you have not read the original thread then?

I am complaining about those addons. Which is already worse enough that they made this mistake AGAIN!

True, he does not have the original insta saw, its actually even worse.

idk the original instasaw allowed him to saw in 1.5 seconds. Thats hard to beat with the current one whos miss cooldown itself is like 2 seconds. so if you say missed then instasawed right after. still has more TTD than old lol. Sure he wasnt as fast in his older state but if were just talking about the saws down speed itself.
