While it may be rumors, I am worried.
I heard rumors that lootboxes will be added soon in DBD Core.
Lootboxes only have their place in free-to-play games in order to make money somehow.
I always defended DBD's monetization because it was reliable and you knew what you were paying for. Characters (and by association, perks) were decently priced and most (licensed content doesn't really count since it's pretty much out of BHVR's hands) can be grinded anyway. Sure cosmetics are costly (often even more than entire characters) but that's expected and I'd argue a good thing since cosmetics being costly makes gameplay-related content cheaper.
Nothing is random, people don't have to spend potentially hundreds of dollars for the chance to get a shiny skin (like the mobile version) or characters, people know what they pay for and choose to pay that price. I really don't want to see DBD Core fall into that pit.
In this day and age, DBD Core is one of the handful of multiplayer games with NO lootboxes/gacha monetization. It's fair. I really do hope those rumors are just that, rumors.

It doesn't bother me personally if this is true, as I won't be buying anything until they fix matchmaking. I just hope it's not a bandaid solution they've come up with to continue making money with zero intention of improving the game.

I don't think it will happen. People have a negative opinion towards lootboxes, rightfully so, and I don't think they would even fit in DBD.

I would be fine with it if it was tied to devotion or some free way to get them
maybe have this as an opportunity to get past reskins from rifts for free

I have a suspicion that whenever you start up DBD core, it does the initial splash screens and what not before the login screen, and one of those Splashs says "Canada Media Fund" which means that DBD is in part funded by the actual Canadian government and because of this, I bet it has pretty strict rules on how it can be monetized, which is why I bet DBD has such an odd system to begin with. So Loot boxes seem unlikely to me.

I would hate to see lootboxes come into this game (but then again I was also against battle passes but here we are).

Loot boxes are a very legally gray area, I think it'd be super unlikely that they implement these. They already jump through hoops to make sure the game isn't censored or pulled in certain areas.

Would have to see a source for this.

The Leak which you refer to only named them "Lootboxes", but they were not Lootboxes. At least what was described does not sound like the regular Lootbox you get from other games.
And in general... Leaked Content will not be discussed here. Why not wait until the official announcement before jumping to conclusions?

I like loot boxes. But I see how its bad for people who can't control their gambling addictions.

Same here -- I won't spend money on the game until matchmaking and balance issues get addressed.

Considering the backlash to lootboxes in several countries, I highly doubt it will.
Now a gacha, that's possible and more scary a concept.

Well, my apologies if I broke some sort of rule (wasn't aware) I was merely voicing concerns.
The fact nothing is confirmed is the reason why this thread isn't in the feedback section and is sheer worrisome speculations. I do apologize if it bothered some people.

Same stance as Nazzak. Doesn't bug me, haven't given them a cent for a long time & will continue not to, as long as real issues are ignored or put off for years.

If there ever were to come lootboxes into the game, as long as it's similar to Overwatch's lootbox system, then i don't think it'll be a problem and instead will benefit players as it'll be free cosmetic pieces and currencies whenever you level up.

No lootboxes in DBD. Just good ol' pure pay to win. Release OP content then nerf it after a few months is the standard here.

Apart from licensed content (and BHVR has essentially no control over that) almost everything can be grinded and if you don't care for cosmetics then it doesn't take THAT long to unlock a character. Add to that the reward codes and events (x2 exp for example) and characters rack up rather quickly. Not to mention most original characters recently got their price halved.
I can't exactly blame BHVR for having busted stuff at release for two reasons;
1: It's much safer from a game design perspective to release something very powerful then nerf it later after feedback than releasing something weak/boring and having to toy with it several times (looking at Onryo here, on her 2nd rework after releasing weak, being reworked into one of the most braindead powerful SoloQ/pub-stomper and then getting another rework and then having said rework get an update mere weeks later) in order to make it appealing.
2: If licensed Killers and Survivor perks were bad, or good but unoriginal, not only would no one buy them but they also would bring nothing to the game.
I don't mind costly cosmetics because not only are the gameplay content fairly priced but also the game isn't a full-priced game (it's like 20$ on steam at base and is on sale most of the time, most games these days hover around the 70$ mark).
Quite frankly, looking at the current top 10 Killer and Survivor perks, none of the Survivor perks are licensed and only two on the Killer side are licensed (Lethal Pursuer and Surge, STBFL was but when they killed it it dipped in pickrate outside of hard-tunnellers).

Why are you against battle passes? They are a really good deal and they monetize your time more than anything, I mean dbd's battle pass is the fairest battle pass I've ever seen, being really easy and accesible and being clear with what gives you without giving you and ingame advantage that you miss out on for playing. It barely has fomo (and the fomo part is a mild pay to lose recolor).

I mean they pay to win part wasn't as costly at the earlier years... It became a problem after 7 years but @Skillfulstone already explained why it isn't that bad... Regardless, nurse's right there.

This is me as well. Not giving them any money until all these issues are addressed.
