Billy overtuned

Ok, first of all, I am not against killers getting buffs. Truth be told, I think many of the "OG" killers have been neglected by the devs waaayy too long and because of that, they are considered weak.

But I do have to say that Billy's buffs were way overboard (in my experience). And because of that, all I am going against right now, are just Billies. This is getting boring.

Match 1 of the day: Billy, Midwich, no one escaped

Match 2: Billy, Ormond, no one escaped (two survs killed themselves on the first hook)

Match 3: Billy, Ormond (again), no one escaped (one surv killed herself on the hook)

Match 4: Billy, Wrecker's Yard, no one escaped (no gens done, complete mudstomp)

Match 5: Clown, Badham, two escaped (including me)

Match 6: Billy, Ormond (AGAIN!), one escaped through hatch

Match 7: Wesker, Midwich, three escaped, camped the one out

Match 8: Billy (sheeesh!), Lery's, one escaped

Match 9: Billy (Oh for the love of...), Ormond via killer offering (OH COME ON!!), no one escaped (two survs DC'd and the third killed himself on the first hook)

I am enjoying Billy for the first time in many years. Heck, he has become my number one Killer thanks to this buff. Now if only they would fix his broken leg movement animation, I can't stand it when running after survivors with a broken leg.

Not much of complaint against Billy (a little, though), but more like complaint about the game. Probably I should've worded my self better on the post. I wish there was a mechanic in the game that looks how many times you've gone against a certain killer and the starts to find games against other killers from time to time.

I need variety in this game. It's boring (and also infuriating) going against the same killer over and over again.

Same was with Wesker and Blight not long time ago...

Truth be told, I just got out of a game against Nurse and it actually felt like a breath of fresh air. I died, but at least the other three got out. And I have never had anything against Nurse

I disagree that Billy is overturned. I’ve escaped 7 out of 10 matches against him in solo queue.

people are trying to loop him and counter him like old Billy and you will lose every time

He didn't feel different at all to play against aside from being wary of dead zones.

it feels just like Bubba with a better chase theme.

The only thing I dislike is the recovery time and the Add Ons. It makes missing Chainsaw Hits too forgiveable. In theory, Overdrive makes them also too forgiveable, because it rewards you for messing up, but at least currently I cannot really see getting more Hits with Overdrive than without Overdrive, it currently messes me up quite often. But might be something that needs to be looked at in the future if people got really used to Overdrive. (Both sides)

But then again, it would be unfair to nerf BIlly again while Nurse can exist and break the game...

I mean i can still see he has a higher ceiling than nurse for less reward. Especially now with overdrive curving with engravings. You have so much more margin for error and things to master. They did lower the skill floor by a good bit. Which is good because they said the original 3 are supposed to be easy to pick up. Yet billy was definitely the hardest. Also maps are still very much part of his balance. Don't see him being S. But possibly A now.

Or give it a couple weeks because a lot of people need to learn how to actually play against billy in the first place. Its still the same counterplay as old billy of just pre drop and he cant do much unless he has lopro.

  • Member Posts: 16,662

Yeah, I mean, as I said, nerfing Billy again while Nurse can break the game feels just wrong. And I currently have a blast playing Billy, because he feels really smooth (and I dont have to use Shadowborn anymore, lol).

But even back then before his Nerf his main issues were the Chargetime and the Cooldown. Because it made missing Chainsaw Hits too forgiving, which they tried to fix with adding Overheat, but nerfing the Cooldown would have been enough. I only played against Billy once since the Patch and while it felt a bit cheap that he got me because his Overdrive kicked in right before I reached a Window, it was fine. But when playing Billy, it just feels like I can mess up too much before getting a Hit.

They overbuffed his basekit recovery time after a miss. The addons that make it even more lenient are just icing on the cake. If you fix these two things he will be fine.

  • Member Posts: 491

The uproar from nerfing him would be pretty intense though.

One guy is complaining about X killer. Now it's all survivors hate Billy lmao.

Nobody is hating Billy and it's actually super fun to face with him. I died to him and i escaped against him, he does not feel overtuned to me.

The only change he needs is , his missing cooldown is really so forgiving. Like i am dodging his chainsaw hit and i am barely doing any distance and his chainsaw is ready to hit me. They should reduce it a bit and then he is fine.

I mean, yeah, Billy recieved a buff that was a bit overtuned. All he needed was an addon pass and his current best addons as a basekit while having Overheat only as an anti-camping mechanic (aka, gathering overheat when revving and not chasing, honestly quite simple. Have it charge up the way it was when not in chase, but let chase 3x the cooldown on overheat).

They did that, and gave him basekit increased speed and charge when overheated.

If anything is overtuned, people will complain. If DS was reverted to its original state (being able to be used without being hooked), I'm pretty sure all killers would complain and "it would be the new survivor perk to complain about".

Yeah, but Billy's has basically recieved a form of anti-loop, while his main strength was already outside loops. If you play Billy like old Billy, you have a very hard time countering him. Especially if he gets an early down or 2 with Grim Embrace and starts camping/tunneling.

Sadako, stbfl and 3 genning have been nerfed this update.

  • Member Posts: 4,225

Most people play him at the moment because he was trash for years and he was a beloved character.

  • Member Posts: 5,499

Yeah, hes overtuned, because bHVR listened too much to the Billys and there were a bunch of emotions around it aswell.

Bottomline is check the Winrates of players throughout the MMR ranges, if that dont stabilize you take Billy out behind the shed.

I still enjoy going against Billy but as others have said the cooldown is too quick, most of the time it feels like you cant even get to the next tile and it sometimes feels like no matter what you do you're going down to quickly.

  • Member Posts: 8,600

I think he's mostly fine as it stands. The only issue I might have are the cooldown add ons. The missed saw cooldown is too integral to his balance to have modified by add ons. He went from "you only have 1 chance to land this saw or they'll be two tiles away before you regain control" to "I can miss as many times as I want and lose no distance" with his cooldown addons.

Don't get me wrong, Overheat Billy was a terrible decision+design from a balance perspective. In no way did I support that. But this version of Billy can edge a little too close to killers like Chucky where there's no expected level of competency for a highly effective output. And to clarify, that's only with certain add on combinations that affect his cooldown. 99% of this version of Billy is fine.

Most of the Billy changes are completely fine, it’s just the miss cooldown (both basekit and addons) that is an issue. I’m pretty confident he will be fine if that is fixed.

It will take survivors time to adjust to the new Billy, and that is okay.

Billy is noob stomper and that's is true. Just learn how to play against him.

  • Member Posts: 4,082

I hated going against him because of how easy it was to beat him.

Now it's actually fun to play as and against him.

  • Member Posts: 9,513

the problem is that chucky and xeno are killer where they're SUPPOSE to be accurate with their ability. Billy is opposite. he's not suppose to be accurate with chainsaw because his steering is poor. He is inherently suppose to miss until he hits you. that is literally what made old billy so fun. Thompson mix+Old carburettor tuning guide was strong because fast charge time+low cooldown.

billy is same as original. It is just that people forgot what billy used to be.

Respectfully, I dont think you're encountering many people from the SkyBilly association then.

  • Member Posts: 3,378

Respectfully you’d be incorrect. I’ve faced mostly billies ranging from P35, 78, and 100. All very good Billie’s, but I am still am to counter him even now after it’s been a few days of his buff.

I stand by my statement. Respectfully. He is not difficult to counter nor overtuned.

calm down, he´s still the same hillbilly that we played against before, but faster in general, now you just need to also do things like, fasteer, it´s hard but fun

  • Member Posts: 163

People are playing him because they are excited for the change and he has challenges for this tome. MMR hasn't caught up with the changes, so there's bound to be mismatching for a couple weeks. Give it time and the new Built will feel balanced.

The overtuning that I see is in the endgame when he's patrolling exit gates.

Before, the chainsaw would eventually overheat, giving the last survivor a fair window to try and open the gate.

Now, the patrols only get shorter and faster.

Just wait until the next player survey, they seem to balance based off of those. Billy is probably gonna go back to overheat mechanic very soon lol.
