Why people don't play much Artist & Dredge?
Both are almost bottom of pickrate. Artist is also pretty strong.

I dont know about Dredge, but Artist is mainly boring to play. At least the way many Artist-players play her, which is just "Place Crow at Loop, go after the Survivor who had to leave the Loop". And you will down them eventually, not because of your power or because you played well, but because you are faster than them.
At least this is what makes Artist boring for me.
For Dredge, it is maybe because it is quite underwhelming? You play a normal M1-Killer and you also make the Survivors leave the Loop when playing your Remnant and this is also only really good when in Nightfall (outside of Nightfall it is ok, but nothing which really impresses me). And on top of that a Teleport, which is nice, but not really unique.

If I manage to hit a survivor with birds from a distance, they just hop in and out of a locker to rid them. Survivors I'm close to just don't let themselves get hit by birds.
Plus most of her sound design annoys me. Same with Dredge. He's constantly breathing into my ears, and the voices...

As a former Dredge main, the highs are quite fun and all but the lows are some of the lowest of all the killers in the game for me. The amount of matches where I feel like the RNG is so heavily weighed against me isn't infrequent enough for me to play them more than once every now and then.
And that's just speaking generally. There's no aspect to Dredge's gameplay that stands out as particularly enjoyable or powerful or even unique to me aside from the 2-3~ minutes per game where Nightfall is active, and even then it's not guaranteed I'll get an opportunity to make a meaningful play with it. I really could ramble about Dredge's shortcomings for so long.

They're not everybody's cups of tea, which is fair.
Reaching Artist's skill floor is simple: place crow that forces survivor to go there and either M1 them or get a free injure; it's not really satisfying to do. However, learning her more experimental and advanced techniques with her power... that consumes a lot of brainpower that not everybody is dedicated to doing. I've seen some crazy Artist plays where they create entire setups with multiple crows at once and injuring survivors with them, they're insane. There's a lot of strategy going on there but it's really, really difficult to learn. Crossmap shots aren't easy either. Artist can be really fun if one takes the time to master her, but simply learning her basics and playing her in the simpler playstyle isn't very satisfying, leading less people to be willing to master her.
Dredge I feel like is moreso people struggling to understand how and when to Remnant and being too stressed from locked lockers, leading them to being discouraged to learn them.

Place power at loop. Survivor must hold W or die, repeat until down.
Both of them also have very annoying audio. Dredge's Nightfall is a accessibility nightmare and Artist just doesn't stop with the high-pitched bird noises EVER

I feel like both have a very unique playstyle that isn't what a lot of people are looking for. Plenty of people are more comfortable on something like Wraith where the power is a buff, but in the end you just play M1, or they want the bigger challenge of Nurse/Blight/Billy which comes with far more oppressive strength.
Personally I think Dredge is a lot of fun. I love the mobility, I love night time, and I love countering loops with his remnant, but I can also see why people don't want EVERY chase to be a remnant mind game exercise.

Artist is like hag to me. Strong but demanding to play.
Dredge is reliant on locker spawns. Play 1 match on skull merchant camp as dredge and you won't like playing dredge anymore.

I play a ton of Artist, she is my main. Her gameplay is way deeper than "place a crow to deny loop" as many people think. She is not easy to play well, probably this is the reason.
What about Dredge, i used to play a lot on him, i really loved him, but he is too weak against good survivors and depends too much on lockers rng. I still play him from time to time, some of the best matches i had were with him, but overall experience with him is depressing.

Artist is very hard to master and it's not like she's the best killer in the game for it.
Dredge is very map reliant and there's plently of maps where large areas you can't teleport to due to the lack of locker spawns.

Dredge is really bad. Bottom 5-7 worst killers in the game. Artist not that fun to play.

Artist is kinda boring. Dredge's daytime teleport feels too slow.
1 -
Dredge is probably because of his inconsistencies. One thought is to make him be able to teleport to totems, double the amount of them, and to be able to rekindle them. We havent had a killer power involving totems yet, and Dredge would be a perfect fit for this. The rekindle part is so theres still counterplay, but his power cant be taken away from him.
Would it completely fix his issues? No. But it definitely wouldnt hurt

Artist is boring to play as, and especially to play against, so thankfully she isn't everybody's cup of tea.
As for Dredge, I think it is mostly due to map reliance. He is fun, but you rely completely on locker spawns, and if those spawns are bad there is nothing you can do about it.
Why play Dredge when we have auto-Nightfall in Lights Out mode 😒
Why not both?

Well said. She’s so much fun when learning her outside of the clear and obvious strategy that most do. I get she gets a bad rep because of that but there’s so much more potential with her.

Dredge is too map-dependent and his power both isn't very strong and has lots of limitations and counterplay. I enjoy playing Dredge but sometimes I feel as weak as Trapper, maybe even worse.

I love playing artist. I love the cross map sniping. My issue with her is multilevel maps screw her over pretty bad. Also, lockers. Kinda bs.
i hate going against dredge so I don’t play as dredge.

Artist is way too easy and annoying to play against. So I'm thankful she's underplayed.
2 -
Yeah, many people here said she is boring. It's probably because they use crow only in pallets and windows, what leads to most obvious counterplay from survivors -> run to another loop. And i can understand why it's boring. But when player starts to use crow in any textures, predicts survivor's moving and thinking strategically, it's completely different gameplay and another killer.
Good Artist also will harass survivor on gens and collect info across the map with birds. It's crazily satisfying to chase one survivor and give hit across the map on another. This killer really rewards you a lot for invested time and stops being boring when you explore her full potential.

There are a lot of different killers nowadays and some are more popular than others. Simple as. Strength has barely any correlation on popularity btw. If it did then Legion would be one of the least used killers in the game while Twins, Singu, Artist would be among the most played ones.

I am a bit surprised. Having played both, I enjoyed both playstyles. The Artist has some creative styles of play, especially double-gunning and using angles to even herd Survivors. The Dredge is map-specific, but is a lot of fun to play as, especially when getting locker strikes!
There are other, less interesting Killers out there. Then again, flavours change a lot. Things may change in future - we'll see.

Good pathing will render Dredge completely powerless in chase on many maps. He's zero fun to play if the survivors are any good.
Artist is just kind of boring to me. Good players are going to mitigate the most fun aspects of her power, so you're left with M2>leave loop>M2>leave loop>M2>finally zoned into a hit.

Artist is pretty hard to play, her chase music is kinda annoying, and her power isn't really that unique/fun.
Dredge is reliant on maps that aren't loaded with loops and has access to lockers everywhere, his anti-loop is pretty lame, and he isn't strong.

Was wondering how it looked from a survivors view, thx

Glad to help, friends!

I feel like a lot of the killers just aren't that interesting. Chucky, Xeno and Artist are all really good, but their powers just aren't very unique or satisfying to use. Billy, Huntress and Whiskers are pretty straight forward, but at least their powers feel good.

I don't like Artist visuals, lore and power so i never ever play her, but Dredge is in my rotation alongside Xenomorph, Executioner, Nemesis and Singularity.
Problem i have with Dredge is how sad it's power can be. I spawn on Midwich and i teleport a lot, i can be a terror on the map, which is super fun !
Then i end up on Coldwind or others, i have almost no lockers anywhere... I wish it was like Xenomorph or Onryo (stations and Tvs next to gens) where you have at least some lockers next to generators that are guarented plus the others around the map.
The best part about Dredge is the locker teleport and in a lot of matches you just can't really use it. Dredge should have more lockers + some guaranted next to objectives, faster teleportation when not on nightfall and maybe less cooldowns to use it's power so it can teleport more often.
I usually plays the boat key and ottomarian writting to compensate for this lackluster basekit.
I would probably let the cooldown to exit a locked locker as it is because it is your only way to protect yourself and works only once so it's annoying but alright.
On a side note, i think Dredge is amazing even if it is the least fun killer to play in my roaster imo, it reminds me of Amnesia and the atmosphere it creates is really cool, sad part is, it is very inconsistent and can be miserable to play from games to games. It deserves some loves from the devs.

Artist is one of killers with the highest skill ceiling, an average player don't like to play hard killers usually.
Dredge is weak and map dependent, in maps with few or bad positioned lockers he is trash. Also most of the survivors already know how to play against him and against the remnant mindgames.

I don't know why so few people like Artist. I feel like she's one of the few killers who has a low skill floor, a high skill ceiling, and can be viable at the highest skill levels. I don't understand the people who feel her power is boring, because I like how tactical it is, but that's just me.
Dredge is, unfortunately one of the most RNG dependent killers in the game. Locker spawns are more random than Sadako's TV's or Xeno's tunnels, and, for some reason, the number of lockers has been decreasing on every map released since Dredge, which seems counterintuitive. It also seems like the ability to lock lockers hurts him really badly. Like, it seems that they could remove that mechanic and he'd be fine, given that he doesn't have any kind of dashing power. I hate that this is the way it is, though. If he were more reliable, I'd play him more. I love his power, but it seems like he's too restricted to be consistent.

I can't stand playing as Dredge. Everything about him feels awful especially when there's so many other killers that basically do the same thing, except better.
Teleport takes forever, unless you're in nightfall.
RNG dependent as heck.
Lackluster anti loop ability.
Locks make the map traversal feel even worse.
I'd rather just play Demo, Wraith, or even Freddy if I want a killer with good map pressure.
