Survivors giving up
This is becoming ridiculous now every other match is a survivor either DCing AFKing or self sacrificing I am going out of my way to 3 hook no 3 gen no camp no tunneling and no slug I literally ignore the injured person running out in the open to go for the person running to a strong tile (you should never do this) I'm even playing with a 4 perk oblivious meme build and still survivors are giving up. Why? Because i'm playing Knight?
Some Survivors need to understand this isn't a PVE game, this isn't a fighting game against the AI where YOU get to pick what opponents you want to fight you can't just give up because the killer is playing someone you don't like to play against and me playing Knight is redundant anyways because some survivors will just use your killer as a smokescreen as to why they actually DC'd or self sacrificed (they got found first or they just aren't good enough to loop) you can't play any killers without at least one survivor finding it unfun and just ruining the match
I get that Solo Queue can be painful and I'm trying to give you a fair and fun experience but I can't take people who complain about Soloq being awful then self sacrifice screwing over 3 of their teammates because "Ugh it's MY 4th Ghostface of the day everything revolves around me I don't wanna play" seriously.
To all those survivors who get left behind by their teammates I will always give you hatch/exit gate you deserve it for playing with such awful teammates.
TLDR: If at any point of the game you get to the point where you're going "ugh X killer? I'm not playing this" then just close the game and go play something else.

I agree, this is painful as both killer and survivor to see this. People throw tantrums for the wildest reasons, they don't get their map offering, their killer of choice, or they weren't able to bully the killer within the first 10 seconds of the match. Worse yet is instead of allowing the team to continue with a bot they will go up to the killer and ask to be hooked and kill themselves on hook. When this fails they will run around the map throwing every pallet, blowing up every gen and using every special item to make it unusable or out of reach to the other survivors.

If one survivor dcs early, it doesnt matter how you play, the match is over. Just kill us and let us get a new match.
While you switch your playstyle, if the team would threaten to beat you, you could always switch back to normal, and the outcome is determined. Why waste that time?
Same actually with tunneling, if the killer hard tunnels out the first guy (and i had killers i bodyblocked in a doorway that hit me once and then followed the tunnel target) the match is over, just stop pretending it make sense to keep playing.
16 -
The essence of this problem is that many survivors mistakenly believe that a winnable match is an unwinnable match just based on appearance. They just don't admit that they lost.
6 -
When i play killer i usually try to find the ratty survivors and not let them escape if ive seen them do nothing and hide the whole match and have 0 hooks. I don't like them as a survivor so i don't like them as a killer eather.
Many times i've had 2 survivors left the ratty one and one thats on death hook. Again i dont see the hider anywhere and i see the death hooked person trying to do gens. I won't hook them i'll go find the ratty one.
If i see people leaving someone on hook and they just go to second stage i usually let them escape in the end and kill the teammates that didnt care about them. Or i let the anticamp do its job and they can jump out of the hook themselfs.
All this being said.. just being a spirit mainer makes people DC, which is silly since she's very easy to counter if you have some volumes in your ears.
My soloQ matches have been quite miserable of late. People dcing and ragequitting for silliest reason ( only reason i'll accept is skull merchant ). People hide and won't do anything during the whole match = this causes other survivors to give up.
1 -
Just a guess but I would say it's because the game has gotten progressively less fun for survivors the last few years.
More killer buffs are on the way next patch.
It's only going to get worse.
33 -
Im a legion and plague main I have dcs at the start or at least in the first third of the game so frequently if id get a penny wvery time I would live on my own island.
I once had someone dc before i could move because they probably saw plagues fountain while there cam was spinning
2 -
It has absolutely nothing to do with that and you know it you're giving up on first hook against a Pig why? Because she's getting buffed next patch? It makes no sense I am actively making the game fun for you by not tunneling not camping and you still give up please don't pretend its because "killers get buffs" people give up against Freddy constantly for absolutely no reason
I have had survivors again constantly give up when im not even tunneling or camping what's the excuse there? If you don't find the game fun STOP playing it then no one on planet earth is forcing you to play.
This Us Vs Them mentality is so deep rooted in the game that an issue that affects both sides is delegated to being the fault of the killer "It's the killer's fault my teammate gave up at 5 gens first hook because he had the audacity to play a killer he found unfun killer's fault of course"
16 -
that in the end of the day my friend is a game issue and it's only gonna get worst the games are extremely volatile and as long they don't address the core issues in the game ppl will more and more kill themself on hook the fact they're still playing mean they still care about the game but are not happy with the state in general the game need to slow down a lot soo ppl can chill and learn and that doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon the lights out event showed a lot of the game core issues and as long as a bare minimum aren't fix you ain't gonna get ppl not killing themself on hook fixed
1 -
What Region are you playing on if i may ask?
I honestly dont get it. Neither as killer or survivor i see that many DC's. And with many i actually mean "any".
2 -
Just like the last thread about this I always have to ask why it circles back to 'Survivor bad' and not a deeper look at why people DC.
If killers are allowed to tunnel, 4-slug, hump on the ground, hit on hook, bleed out, and camp and if survivors are allowed to bodyblock their teammates, hide in corners and lockers all game, play for hatch, etc.
Then why is it so shocking that people will also use a method in game to avoid what they would consider to be a waste of time? Why is that considered unreasonable and why does it anger you so much?
Yeah it does suck when someone goes next in a winnable game, but that happens so rarely that I'm almost certain it's hyperbole to say it happens every other game.
The overwhelming majority of hook suicides that I see are when against killers known for terrible playstles (yes Pig is one of them) that involve not actually playing, or if their teammates do nothing for minutes at a time.
Let's fix those before we come after people wanting to avoid them.
19 -
I don't see that many but I totally understand it when a killer is sweating like they're in a tournament slugging, camping and tunnelling at 5 gens and I have no problem if they want to move on to the next match in those cases.
However there are those who you just cannot keep happy and they will leave a match on first hook/DC for reasons I struggle to figure out. Not sure how you can account for those ones either tbh
4 -
but what you say would also mean that bhvr would need to change totally fine killers that arent to strong just because survivor dont like to face them. most people hate to play against legion because they dont like it many people dc because of that so does that killer now need to be changed wich eats tons of recourses that could be used elsewhere and wich would hurt the community that loves that killer?
6 -
Well you've already discovered the solution.
In an ideal world yes, Legion would be changed to be something more than mend simulator, but you are correct that this is not practical at the moment.
Therefore people have to accept that killers like Legion will continue to exist and they also have to accept that Hook Suicides are also part of the game.

Playing survivor I see DC’s often. Usually it has nothing to do with who it is against. It is usually they got caught and that means game is over to them. Easy fix make multiple DC’s get a stricter consequence. I have seen it in other games where people will be ok with the smaller ban then as it gets larger they either fix their behavior or leave to ruin another game.
The same events happen when I play killer a lot more DC’s and it matters not who I play.
2 -
can you buy me one too?
i play alot of surv but i dont dc i play the game and if its a killer i dont like i keep playing like normal
im a killer main who plays dredge with an aura build and play a bit of surv with a stealth build but i still work with my teammates
to all my killers who tunnel and camp get guud skrub
1 -
It's not just about survivors giving up if winning feels impossible, it's that they've made survivor gameplay so boring with all the nerfs to fun perks that many survivors just don't have the willpower to continue.
6 -
"The killer MIGHT play naughty so I don't wanna play"
I appreciate you proving my point for Pig though and why does it anger me so? Because I see it from both sides as killer and survivor i'm not a killer main elitist and neither am i a survivor main elitist i know how it feels to waste your time when your teammate just stops playing.
If you don't see it happening in every other game you're not playing killer and actually winning that's why be above average as killer and survivors don't even wanna try anymore (You can hit good shots as slinger? I don't wanna play sorry) its annoying and has nothing to do with the killer I don't understand why this must always devolve into "No but YOU did something bad as a killer how dare you pick Pig?! I don't care about what you want its what I WANT" why can't you just accept that some (keyword some i'm not insulting the entire survivor community) survivors are just entitled whiners who want you to play their way?
BHVR needs to do something about survivors giving up its not a gameplay issue its a mentality issue and certain streamers don't help because they populate the idea that giving up is ok and you should do it at a moment's notice. This isn't an Us vs Them issue its a bloody gameplay issue that affects everyone.
5 -
Honestly couldn’t be you
i know I’ve sucicied on hook as survivor because playing a certain map again in a play session would just give me a migraine
0 -
But that means you ideal world does not care for killer players.
Legion playstyle does only work becauee of mend cause you need to rob the survs of ttimeand i dont think it really matters ehat happens to cost them time.
Lets say its not mend then Its go to that object and cleans yourself like wesker or nemi. Is that more fun? Legion applys his effect so fast you could stay by that object
4 -
It's a gameplay issue. Survivor is not really fun to play anymore.
People don't leave when they are having fun.
Survivor gameplay used to be tonnes of fun but it's not much fun in its current state.
5 -
It does not because I didn't say the change should be a strict nerf.
In an ideal world Legion would get changed to be healthier and still fun for Legion players.
1 -
But also, a lot of Killers are the same. People really need to take breaks from the game.
6 -
You just didn't read their post lmao.
OP listed off every killer related thing you deem people can give up for and said they literally don't do any of that. Besides the weird bm things that probably didn't even cross their mind.
There's many unfun things in the game, but when none of them happen there's 0 excuse.
4 -
Where are those ragequitting or oblivious survivors when I play killer? I just get the teabagging flashlight clicking coordinated SWF kind in most of my games.
2 -
Well I say good for the OP. Maybe they are that special killer that's fair. However, that's not the case for other killers who do tunnel/camp/ slug for 4k etc. I don't know why people in this community are normalized to put survivors to a higher standard. As if they should be forced to stay in a match. It's the reason why devs do not ban people for wanting to leave and go next. When someone decides to want to leave a match based on how a killer is playing in a horrible and sweaty way, I see no way of the devs punishing them for deciding to not want to play with them. Cause I wouldn't want to play with people who are that sweaty. In a casual game. Puhlease
3 -
Then why ready up in the first place? Hoping for the perfectly tailored to personal preference match?
7 -
Because people remember how much fun this game used to be. They are chasing that feeling.
4 -
That's what I would call being addicted and they should reevaluate themselves. If the only option for those people is to chase that feeling and rage quitting any time they don't get it, then they should simply quit.
I did and quit the game because the relaxed and fun time back from release when people didn't know how to be max efficient and so on will never come back.
Same like any other pvp game.
5 -
i mean i get where your coming from but i still think that means in a "ideal" world legion would simply not be legion. not that i think bhvr will ever completly rework them but if we say its okey to give up when we dont like what we face that is going to be a problem.
lets just say every single surv would just give up every time they face a legion bhvr would need to complettly change them and by that taking a loved killer that btw is far from strong from the community. thats why i dont like the movement of its oke to just give up if you dont like the killer

I think both sides want easy games as well. If the match is not going in their favor or they get downed to fast its a dc fest alot of the time.
If 3 gens go and no hooks I have seen killers dc. I really think it is more than a miserable game. I think some players just want to win. So they play sweaty and dc when it's not going their way.
I personally like a challenge in my games. If I wanted to win all the time I would play Big Rigs. Even if I get downed and bleed I just grab my phone or alt tab to something else till it's over.
I think the best way to have the most fun is if you just don't care about a win or a loss.
1 -
Not like there's a lot of other options.
2 -
Never said the OP did any of the things I listed.
These strategies are common enough to where players are preemptively going next at the first sign of them in play even if it wasn't the killer's intent. Survivors can ruin games and make their teammates go next as well, but killer is the power role so its not proportionate, killers often set the tone of the match and too often they immediately make it boring/frustrating for reasons outside of just playing efficient.
Making hook suicides bannable won't actually fix anything, it'll just be another change that makes the game worse for survivors. They need to change killer rewards and gameplay to make spreading hooks the efficient way to win, which does take a lot of work because its a nuanced problem; this is why I believe they're just keeping it as is, they don't see it as being worth it.
I am also in favor of nerfing survivor's ability to ignore their objective to bully/hide/open chests/etc as well, killers being forced to sweat for their wins but survivors being able to get carried while contributing nothing is dumb and should not be a thing.
So we're stuck with what we have, the queue times aren't long enough in this game for a hook suicide to be significant, unless of course, the killer drags out the 3v1 game, but that's on the killer not the survivor that went next at that point.

At this point the should remove the ability to self un-hook unless you're running a perk that allows it and remove the struggle option from second phase. They're both outdated mechanics anyways and more often than not serve as a way to avoid the DC penalty while still ruining the game for everyone else.
3 -
So essentially survivors should be slugged on hook.

I wonder how forcing people to stay in a match they clearly don't want to will make them respond in-game. Surely they will see the error of their ways, get it together and start playing per this threads expectations.
9 -
Like I said this is out of BHVR's control its purely a mentality issue no band aid fixes will fix this its a community issue

I self sacrifice or support who does it when the match is clearly unwinnable. the problem is the survivor role dont get chances to make a comeback, and sometimes you can absolutely say that a match is lost in less than 2 minutes
6 -
but I appreciate nice killers like you who try to make the game better for survivors. for me the main reason people give up is because the game is too hopeless for survivors most times. you cant convince someone to play a match they dont believe they have any chance
2 -
You forget ghe #1 rule. DbD is supposed to be for fun, but only the fun of the individual matters and if they dont have fun they should be able to do what they want without consequence
0 -
If they don't like being in a multi-player game then they shouldn't play the game.
It would be different if it was a rare occurrence, but it's not. People leave matches simply because they got downed which is part of normal gameplay.
5 -
of course, yes; but this line of argument is wishful thinking. Players like this will play the game, will get triggered due to some reason, and act like that - maybe act like that in the next/successive matches.
Saying they should do or feel this and that is a very commendable (and probably gratifying) moral highground, but it is also a display of being somewhat blind towards the realities of this community.
0 -
also sometimes its not just because there mad sometimes they might be trying to get a certain type of content and that killer may make it hard like if they are running lightborn and they are trying to get flash save content.
0 -
surely, but what do you think follows from this complaint(?).
Should bhvr police their own games more thoroughly? They are the ones who have implemented the means to throw a game, like the leave game button, the attempt to unhook, and the requirement to hit skill checks (and thus the option to miss those) to stay alive.
Do you think people who are (select your answer) [ ] frustrated / [ ] griefing / [ ] entitled / [ ] vengeful or evil / [ ] quitting to save time / [ ] fed up with the match or teammates / [ ] don't like the killer character or playstyle will reconsider when they are forced to stay in the match? Maybe some of their reasoning is in fact a legit complaint from players and maybe the devs could focus some effort on the QoL issues to remedy this situation.
One thing is certain, lecturing people and complaining about them on these forum threads might be a good way to vent your frustration, but I am not convinced it does anything else. Don't get me wrong forum dwellers of a pvp game will always look for any kind of validation for their opinions especailly if they can portay themselves as the morally "bigger person", and as any natural human need it is great we have forums to get just that. But it will definitely not make survivors in general want to stay longer in matches they leave early otherwise.
BTW hook stage two is so absurd. Just give me an option in settings to turn those hook skillchecks off. Maybe i just want to alt-tab to youtube while someone comes to save me and not sit there hit space now and then. This is the most mind-numbingly dull part of the entire gameplay loop, that and bleeding out on the ground.

Yet Killers can see who the survivors are. Can check to see their time / experience in the game should they decide they want to tunnel. Can See what items they brought and if they don't want to deal with it change things accordingly, or decide hmmm i dont want to play with that group. As you quoted "Its not a PVE Game, players shouldnt get to hand pick what they want...." How odd that Killers get to.
...Hmm I wonder why players continue to dc. Maybe its because the constant negative experiences killers consistently provide seem to be the reasoning behind it. Maybe to demonstrate to the developers that they need to start looking at underlying problems within the game rather then band aid fixes or half assed resolutions.
Hell behavior does not even warn players that they should set profiles to private to prevent killers from seeing how much experience they have in the game. So unless they happen to go to the forums or watch videos advising them to do it, they dont and killers get more information then anything survivors get.
3 -
Players who DC because they don't want to be able to do what they want to do shouldn't play multiplayer in the first place.
0 -
it’s funny how everyone thinkd the blame is on the players, for me it is clearly obvious that the blame is on BHVR balance decisions that made the game too rough and hopeless for survivors. In order to everyone want to stay in a match, everyone deserves the same shot at winning
