Should Killers Have a Code of Conduct or Ethics in the game

ownoka
ownoka Member Posts: 45

Is proximity camping a quality of life issue or a permissible strategy?

Is tunneling bad for the community or condoned by Behavior Developers?

Should killers be able to effectively stand atop the basement to prevent dehooking?

Yes, we could talk survivor ethics, gen rushing, 360s and juking, but that is for another thread.

It's common courtesy to play nice and non oppressive to your opponent whenever one side decides to. You can't really restrict one side from doing things just because it's not as much of the fun to another. Everything else is up to devs to allow / ban but even that has to be done within the reason to avoid massive backlash in the future.

If this were a fighting game, you could just say, "Is it cowardly to reduce your opponent's health by half from a restraining attack? That's not the case, right?"

This community is made up of people who love to talk about extremely low buff/debuff debates and kill rates into the night.I tell survivors, ``Go ahead and complete your gen, it's the most effective to killer.'' Then I tell the killer, ``Whatever you do, try to both prevent gen completion and increase hook states.''

    Thats all.

Other than the TOS which is enforceable, obviously something like this would not work.

I don't know if we can even have a reasonable discussion if you compare tunnelling to "gen rushing, 360s and juking"

In particular the tunnelling I see is anything but healthy for the game, it is usually targeted towards the newer players who make easy targets and it gives them a miserable experience that almost guarantees they will not continue playing the game long term.

As already mentioned, problems on both sides need to be addressed by gameplay/mechanic changes.

Obviously, no. Nowadays, there are enough game mechanics artificially hindering and forcing killers to not make certain plays to guarantee survivors a chance without having to officially apply the "Holy Survivor's Rulebook" on top of that.

Survivors already have all the in-game tools they need in form of perks / strategies to solve all those situations that you mentioned there. You only need to learn them and get the minimum game sense required to use them right.

No. I think it helps though to recognize that at the end of the day this is a game, and other real life people are playing it *with* you. If you are going to be unpleasant, then don't be surprised if people choose not to play with you. That goes for everyone in multiplayer games, regardless of which role you play.

Players will always flock to the easiest ways to win no matter how cheesy they might be and the only one who can change that is BHVR, not the community.

I think it more about normal gameplay and killers trying to forgo normal gameplay like hatch same thing with camping they are trying to go past the looping system stright to a win that not what the games about why on earth would their be pallets and windows or bloodlust or even loops for that matter it not about strat or who is the better player it about easy win by any means possiable it not even about having fun

    A quality of life issue.

    Bad for the community.

    They should not.

Give me a heads up when discussing survivor related issues.

There is one: "Survivors Rulebook for Killers" ask your local Survivor main for a copy.

Nope. Just don't be a dick about certain things. Don't hit hooked survivors - it's cowardly and childlike; don't cheat or work with survivors to gang up on another survivor; be gracious in defeat and humble in victory.

Play with that honour and a killer shouldn't be made to feel bad for playing a certain way.

Of course not, how else would @Xernoton tunnel and slug baby Dwights and megs all day?

    As a general code? No.

As a personal code? Yes, I think that would be best.

You should have empathy for the other side and that should reflect in your choices for how to play .

well I can only tell you my experience. I have watch all TTVs that I run into’s vods after the game because I like to see their reaction against my killer, countless times now… the ttv survivors reports me for “tunneling”, so it’s obvious that they genuinely believe it’s enough of a stigma to be considered a bannable offense, oh they also blocks me afterwards. I also get a lot of hate mails from players on my platform calling me very unkind names and threatening me because I tunneled them.

The problem with trying to enforce a code of ethics is that that leads to an ethics committee, and they tend to have none.

If the devs don't want something to happen in the game, they should design the game in a way that it is not possible to do that thing. Otherwise, it is fair game.

It's great in theory until you spend most of your time trying to follow said code and receive BM and insults regardless of the outcome.

    This, right here.

No need to slug/tunnel at 5 gens. Losing gens, need some pressure? Okay, it's part of the game.

Say GG afterwards, compliment some clutch dead hard/sabo play. Once, i played a very competent team, people who would wait at the basement with Off the record to make a flash save, absolute chads. I got 2 kills, said GG and "great team". They responded with "god demo", "great killer", even though i messed some easy shreds. I remember this match to this day simply for how nice they were when i was nice to them too.

It's not even a question of talking about survivor ethics. It's a question of, 'Has the survivor community treated the other players of this game with the courtesy they expect to get in return?' And the answer is a resounding "NO!"

When the majority of the player base behaves like animals, why is the onus put on the minority to clean up the community?

    *evil villain laugh*

I have to have someone dead at 2 hooks. Every game. Those baby Dwights don't deserve better! Either that or I win with 1 hook and no tunneling.

It's not a win, if I can't make everyone else miserable.

    @topic:

No. Killers and survivors should play however they like as long as they don't break the rules. Meaning, you shouldn't go out of your to be a dick but you don't have to go out of your way to ensure everyone else is happy.

It doesn't work anyway. Trust me, I tried.

I think there's a bit of rose-tinted glasses there. People who abused broken things in games usually got called out or had their controller taken away when games were local multiplayer. Players just don't care about the opponent anymore because it's some nobody 500 miles away, not an actual friend. The same broken strats exist in games like DbD, but attitudes changed. Games "used to be fun" because you had some control over who you were playing with on Goldeneye 007 on N64. Many DbD players wouldn't be invited over for LAN parties or split screen multiplayer if they played like they do.
