Why isn't modding being frowned upon?
There has been a surge of people using re-skin mods lately, and I don't think anyone has been banned for that yet. While I find the idea of Homer Simpson running away from the killer pretty funny, I don't think it's fair at all to have modded models in a game where stealth is an option. For example I could be crouched in a bush, and I wouldn't know if the killer found me because they're skilled at the game or because, in their screen, I appear as the Pink Panther or something, making me visible from two miles away.

I do believe that's frowned upon, as with anything that would give an active benefit to said player.

Isn't this something that only affects the person using it? like only the person with the mod can see it while other people see the match normal?

I dont know about the extent of DBD modding, but I'd imagine people can change models on the other side to be super bright and easy to see.
I remember an old clip of someone that changed Trapper traps to be bright pink. You can imagine how much easier that would make it to play against him.

You are the only one who can see it, this is true. But you can also give yourself an advantage doing it. As already said, giving Trapper pink Traps. Or you can change every Outfit for Survivors in the files into something super-bright so that you can spot them from miles away.
I am not sure if modding is still possible on Online-Servers, OP might referring to someone who played this in an Offline-Lobby.

yeah, only the person who’s doing it can see it, but it also comes with cheats..
it works on both. wish bhvr cracked down on it due to the fact it comes with literal cheats

This is one of the things we talk about like an arms race, it's a cheat basically. We have blocked things on our end, but the circle continues that people who want to cheat develop new ways, then we block it, then they develop something else. It's a never ending cycle.

Yes, making killers, survivors or traps bright neon pink can give a massive advantage to the player, which is why any form of modding is against the rules. Even if you're only changing your own model and gaining no advantage whatsoever, it's still against the rules simply because it's easier to ban all mods than to allow some and ban others.
Depending on how the mod works though I imagine it could be hard for the game to detect.

Now I have an important question.
What are screen filters considered as?
Many players use different kinds of shaders to make some colour's stick out very brightly. What I've seen, this is mostly done to make scratch marks and red stains extremely bright so that players can react to them better and sometimes even earlier.
Are these considered cheats as well? They do give an advantage.

I wouldn't call a harmless re-skin of the player's model a cheat, since it is just a cosmetic (and funny looking) mod. Fixing gens as a tiny killer would actually look really funny.
But other mods, that actually gives the player an advantage over others should definitely be frowned upon.

More than frowned up if you have mods in modern dbd you ARE cheating and will get banned by the anti cheat eventually. I've seen people streaming themselves with extra fov on survivor + extra distance on windows. There is nothing stopping these silly "modders" from full on cheating on top of everything else.

Doesn't matter. They both give a competitive advantage. Filters can set it up so you can literally see things through walls. Why is that fair or allowed?

Idk how screen filters could be controlled, I don’t think they can. But I do think that they are considered cheating. I mean they make the red stain easier to see and the maps brighter so it is easier to see Survivors that hide.

I didn't say i enjoyed it, i said that your 3rd party program gives you a competitive advantage. Literally you just said "look how dark the game is" darkness is partially part of the balance of the game, so by making the game brighter, you are literally giving yourself a competitive advantage over someone who does not use it.

Having a good graphics card gives a competetive advantage, as does having a good keyboard with a high polling rate. At some level you have to realize life isn't fair and some sources of advantage you realistically just need to put up with. Certainly I would hope you would never advocate handing out bans for people who exceed a certain frame rate or screen resolution, or for having hardware that exceeds a certain limit on poll rate.
Also shaders can't help you see anything that you couldn't already see. Any wall that you can see through with a shader, you can also see through without a shader, it's just harder. I agree that some extreme examples of shaders are particularly ridiculous, but implying that anyone who uses a shader is doing it to that extreme in order to get a competetive advantage is also ridiculous.

this. there is no way to even controll filters cause they dont really touch the game. they change how your pc is showing you the game. i actually think they could see it but that would mean they need to watch everything that your pc runs while it runs dbd and that would probably be something most people would quit over since its a massive risk. and then there is monitors that have setting of there own that cant be detected no matter what. even my fairly old monitor comes with pretty good pre sets for games

This is actually a big problem because they can also make your model bigger and make stealth impossible, the same with killers like Myers and Ghostface they could be turning them into a character that makes them stick out like a sore thumb and make any real stealth attacks next to impossible to pull off, and how would we know unless they're advertising on a stream?

Shaders give a big advantage. The sooner we all can accept that, the better. People don't use it to make the game look better. A ton of people in the competetive scene play the game on the lowest graphics options, where the game looks pretty bad already. I think a little more red will not make it look like butterflies.
Is it cheating? In my opinion, yes. In the devs opinion? Seemingly not.

I already said shaders give an advantage. Once again, my point was that a whole lot of things give advantage. Having headphones instead of speakers gives an advantage.
I used shaders to make the game look better back when I played a lot so it's inaccurate to say people don't do that. I also think people who use the ridiculous comp filters that are used as an extreme example are silly, but I recognize people can change their monitor's settings to get the same effect, so between being someone who uses filters not for an advantage and knowing if you use it for advantage you can get the same advantage through normal hardware settings, I can't get behind classifying shaders as a cheat

Since the vast majority of this takes place on PC's, I think this is a good argument against cross play being forced down our throats.

Most of the playerbase is on the consoles. Without combining the players the queue times on PC would soar. We just experienced what longer queues feel like with the 2v8 mode. And also most of the content creators and all of the Fog Whisperers are on PC. And yes it is entirely possible for a cheater/hacker to enter console lobbies even with CrossPlay off.
There's no way they'll remove CrossPlay. The intent is to join all the players together not separate them.
