BHVR Fix Your Community
I have two kids, 3 and 5, and this shining example of human virtue just told me he wants me to have to watch both my children die because he lost in a video game.
Why is post-game chat is even a thing? Just remove the "feature" entirely. FFS this is inexcusable.
Yes, I filed an in-game report, and yes I followed up on the website and reported this player via their steam ID and included unredacted screenshots.
Hopefully you actually take some meaningful action here.

you can ‚disable‘ (as in:hide) the chat on your side by clicking on the button in the bottom right with the two arrows! It will stay that way for future matches as long as you don’t actively open it again

Yeah thanks Mooks I know that. That in no way excuses this deplorable behavior. Fact is post-game chat serves no constructive purpose whatsoever and it needs to be removed entirely from the game. This community is toxic, has always been that way, and post-game chat contributes to ensuring it stays that way.

It also can result in nice conversations, and even spark friendship.
You're right. Nothing can excuse vile behavior such as you described. But not every game of DBD is like that. Some are toxic, some are nice, some just say gg and move on. Me personally, what I would get in 24 hours of dbd is something I get in two games of COD.
Post-game chat can indeed be toxic. It can also be the opposite. It's how online contact works. You flip a coin. Like mooks said, if it bothers you, you can deactivate it. No one's going to blame you, and most will probably understand. But it shouldn't be removed just because it CAN be toxic. Since it CAN be positive as well, going through with this change would also get rid of honestly really wholesome moments, all because people only looked at the negatives

Hopefully you'll excuse me for not really caring about the odd "wholesome moment" when a member of this community got butt hurt about losing a game and told me he hopes I have to watch my children die.
I've been playing this game since 2019 and I can count on no more than two hands how many times I've had decent post-game interactions with people. There aren't enough hands on the world to count the toxic interactions. The scales are in no way even there.2 -
And this goes back to what I said about not every game of dbd being the same. I've definitely had more positive interactions Post-game than negative ones. I have also been playing since 2019, though some would argue more like 2020, since I started at the tail end of 2019. It is understandable why you wouldn't care at this point, after such a message. But it doesn't mean that others don't care.
It is unfortunate when it happens (especially when it happens often, such as in your case), but again, we can't just remove something when we're only looking at the bad side of things. That is intentionally missing an entire side of the coin.

When the "bad side of the things" outweighs the "hey I had a wholesome moment" by a factor of 1000 to 1, it's an extremely easy decision to make.

If you want, turn it off. Let it for people who can handle it…

Yeah, for you. You're trying to make that decision for everyone. People have said awful stuff to me on many occasions and it does not bother me. It bothers you. That's fine. You've got the option to turn it off for you; forcing it off for people like me who do not care is ridiculous.

You can close the chat, so bhvr gives you an option to deal with it. They can't do much else, what do you want them to do, go into every toxic dbd player's home and teach them how not to be awful people?

There is plenty BHVR can do about it. Overwatch/Blizzard has implemented a system that has drastically reduced the amount of toxic in-game chat. You'll even get automatically timed out if enough reports are filed by other players about you within a certain period of time. You can appeal the reports so there is a modicum of recourse for trolling as well.
Actually enforcing the stated rules about toxic chat would be a good first start. There is no transparency to any of BHVRs enforcement, you just have to take their word they actually enforced the rules, and the way this stops is if people are certain they're going to face consequences for acting like gutter trash.0 -
Sure, you are clearly overly emotional and it's better if you don't interact with people like that. So just turn off chat and be happy. You don't need to care about what other people do, if they want to interact with them or not.
BTW sharing any personal information to strangers is always bad idea. Don't act surprised when it is used against you. That's just naive.Post edited by EQWashu on2 -
Take your moral high ground and go away. It does not matter. You clearly tried to provoke him, too, but unlike you he succeeded. Do you really believe he cares for anything you have to say? I doubt it. You poke the troll and he slings ######### at you. Big surprise. And I will repeat myself: If you do not need the feature, do not use it. You trying to piss him off, failing and now asking for removal of a basic feature. If BHVR agrees with you about the things said then the harassment report will do its job.

Closing the thread here, due to some over-the-line comments.
When players break the Rules, they are handled, including for Communications Abuse. When reported in-game (Required), and Support (Optional for this, but Required for other infractions, as noted here), they are given consequences. Wishing harm or death on others is especially not ok, and Player Support will review your report as soon as they can do so.
And while I understand it is felt it does not solve the larger issue, game chat can be closed to personally avoid Communications Abuse messages, but by players reporting when it occurs, it can help the big picture.
