Am I pessimistic or is the Background Player "nerf" gonna make it more annoying?
Sure, 200% to 150% is great, nobodys gonna come flying in from Narnia for saves, but 150% is nothing to scoff at, on top of now only being exhausted for 20 seconds, it just feels like it gives too much freedom for more BGP saves on top of being able to use other exhaustion perks too.
(not to mention the toolbox sabotage buff in the same patch)

Yeah I think the nerf to 150% would have been fine without the buff to exhaustion. Now you'll just have the perk up even more frequently, which doesn't sound good to me.
7 -
You indeed are.
The thing is, how often do you think it will actually apply that someone can go for BGP-Saves every 20 seconds? I dont think it will really happen, but the Nerf to the Movement Speed will restrict the area where the BGP-Survivor will have to be to actually get into position.
They probably just wanted to give the Perk something because with 150% there is not really anything to gain from running BGP when you can just run Sprint Burst.

it definitely still strong but now can't cross have the map quickly for a pallet drop. Definitely more fair now

definitely doesn’t need the exhaustion reduction. Combined with vigil and you’ll have it every 16 seconds. Sprint burst is 3 seconds of 150% on a 40 second cooldown. BP is 5 seconds of 150% on a 20 second cooldown.
5 -
BP is 5 seconds of 150% on a 20 second cooldown.
No it isn't, as to activate it, killer must pick up someone.

I guess people would have to really try, either with Vigil or swf with multiple people running it. And at that point it'd be no different than old BGP exhaustion. Plus it's a PTB, who knows what'll go through or not

A nerf for solo queue and a buff for bully squads pairing it with vigil to have it up all the time. Good old BHVR logic.
5 -
Irrelevant, it’s a 20 second cooldown. I would rather have a superior sprint burst that allows me to still run without activating it instead of having to walk the whole game to save SB. Or be exhausted for 40 seconds.

It sounds like they take away 1 from 3 to make it 2. But if people put 1 in it, 2 will be 3 again.

i would reduced the duration from 5 second →3 seconds. haste being weakened might make survivor not use it due to lack of potency. 20 second cooldown is also worry some.
0 -
Yeah these perk changes are a buff, when it was supposed to be a nerf. 200 to 150 is pretty minor in changing what you can do with it but halving the cooldown is huge.

the m/s reduce lowers the distance in which your able to just stay out of radius to save. i am not sure what total distance is in game from # stand-point, but say 200% = 15 meters you can stay away, 150% would be like 10 meters. So if a survivor is not within 10 meters, they would not be able to save.
15 meters is critical because if the killer sees you, you can hold-w making it impossible for killer to hit you but as they return the slug, you are ready to pallet save. weakens flashlights as well.

Not gonna lie, this is giving me some heavy "MFT has actually been buffed" vibes.

I think that the halved Exhaustion is much less relevant than the movement speed nerf because:
• Survivors now can't zoom in to your position even though they were on the other side of the map.
• During the time it takes to chase and down a new survivor after someone failed to save with BGP, the player would very likely already recovered form Exhaustion, regardless of the length. (Unless the killer is snowballing)
1 -
Exactly. They most likely just halved the Exhaustion to make the Perk somewhat more appealing than Sprint Burst. Because with 150%, I would rather prefer Sprint Burst over Background Player, even if I get 2 seconds less Speedboost, but way more flexible. Same like they did back then with Smash Hit.
But I dont think that we will see Background Player often anymore after the Nerf.
2 -
Not as often, yes, but we will still see it. It's now a good perk instead of an OP perk.

Oh damn, I forgot it's 5 seconds of it. It might not be as great with flashlight or even pallet saves, but being able to have a 5 second Sprint Burst to run over to a hook and sabotage might be an issue, especially with swf
0 -
heres my take 200% was so crazy fast it made people mess up but 150% is a controlled speed that most can handle and won't restrict the area survivors can save that much and with the buff to 20 seconds really helps flashlight savers and can go for saves more frequent
0 -
Unless you're downing a survivor every 20s, not really. The bigger issue is it won't take away other exhaustion perks for 40s.
0 -
Yeah…No. Do you really think that those who used Background Player well were those who could not control their character anymore? If that would be the case people would not have complained about it that much.
1 -
Well its not gonna be any different even with the nerf perk needs reworked in general
0 -
I mean it's a good change since you won't be punished for using it for map mobility to setup for unhooks more often, but I can imagine some specific vigil builds where survs are just attempting to chain saves together on a small map.
