I've grown quite a distaste for Anonymous Mode players as of late

And quite frankly I refuse to believe I am the only person who has, I don't know what switch this pointless setting flips in people's brains but I swear every Anon Mode player I have ran into has been one of "those" people, you know who I'm talking about, right?

People like this Yui who suicided on hook for no reason and cost the entire team a easy win against a decent Wraith player

Or this Claudette who decided it would be a better use of her time to sit on the invocation circle for half a minute instead of either helping complete the invocation faster or leaving and doing a gen

Or this Ace, who was cheating and couldn't be reported on Steam due to Anon Mode preventing that

Or, in my personal favourite case, this Feng and Adam, who held me hostage on the railing in the portal room in Hawkins for 10 minutes straight

These are just a few examples of the kinds of people I run into that use Anon Mode, and quite frankly I don't believe that any of these people are people who actually "need" it, this setting makes people way, way too comfortable with being trolls and ruining matches for other people, call it negativity bias but I sincerely cannot think of a actual purpose for this mode that isn't letting bad people do bad things

Get rid of this setting, it serves no purpose that cannot be achieved through other means, and just lets people be pricks with impunity

To me I've mainly felt like Anonymous Mode should be strictly limited to streamers(since there are some people who stream DBD with it on), but requires proof of being an active streamer who plays the game to get access to it. And this isn't unreasonable either since there are other PvP games that people stream on with settings like these exclusively meant for only streamers.

I dodge any and every anon player lobby instantly.

I only turn it on as Killer because the people I'm killing tonight may be my teammates in SoloQ tomorrow and I wouldn't want any hard feelings.

Yea if you average up my xp anon mode players tend to be shitters on average. Which i really don't understand like if you're gonna play in the most degenerate way why not farm salty profile comments as well

    1. I only brought up reporting once, and that was in a example of a cheater, someone who should be able to be reported through Steam, not BHVR’s mess of a reporting system
    2. I do not check profiles unless it’s a TTV to see if they are live, the point of the thread was not “I don’t like Anon Mode because I can’t check people”, the point was “I do not like Anon Mode because the people who use it are #########”, which my varying screenshots show,
    3. What oh pray tell is the oh so important reason for this setting to exist? Because the only people I see using it are either big streamers or trolls with minimal exception

I simply haven't seen as many people that ruin matches that aren't using Anon mode compared to people that are

It's a "Not every X is Y but every Y is X" problem, I'm not going to deny that trolls without Anon mode exist, but for every one that doesn't there's 5 that do

Anonymous mode gets rid of targeted harassment on PC I believe, on Console it is buggy and does not work correctly (your name can still be seen on PC) so for example if you stream, targeted harassment via twitch inbox it is.

It does suck that you've had that particular experience with Anonymous mode but that's just how this game goes, people don't really take it serious and even less will now that depipping isn't a thing anymore.

I'd recommend enjoying the game and if you can't then just report and move on. No point worrying too much about it.

Oh and claudette.. or people getting very low points, remember that there will be new and old players constantly picking up and dropping the game off. Remember when you was new? I'm sure you wouldn't like to have been judged for it.. The easiest way to avoid most of these types of players though (from my experience) is to keep a high MMR. You will get the odd couple of games still but it is what it is.

That doesn't matter the majority of players that use cheats, exploits, hold hostage game, and generally play in a way that should not be endorsed use anon mode and they are emboldened by said anon mode.

The 2 biggest reasons it's there is to protect streamers so they can avoid being sniped but there is no consensus among streamers it makes the game better so what is the point? The other is to protect people from getting salty -reps and messages on console but if anyone gets so bent out of shape over what people think of an online identity that will likely never be remembered past 3 hours they can no longer play the game they just should not play it they need to go outside and touch grass tbh.

Why are we making game more comfortable for the types of players that should they leave the game will not be missed just so an extreme minority that both want and need an anon mode can have it? Bluntly it just makes the game worse and the reputation of anon players proves it so why keep it.

Confirmation bias? I don't do it only to avoid trolls. I also don't wish to play with streamers. I should have mentioned that.

Double standard? No, not all, what do you mean?

Survivors cannot see the name of The Killer in the lobby anyway.

No no no. I'm not condemning anyone. I should have made my post more detailed.

My experience has been negative with anon players, so I elect not to. It wasn't something I decided after 2 or 3 bad matches.

If people want to be anonymous, that's cool, I'm just not taking chances.

As for me being Anonymous Killer, it is to avoid being betrayed by teammates in SoloQ.

I have been playing anonymous Killer since the feature was released.

Dodging anonymous players is something I've only started recently.

    No condemnation of anyone.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I've heard xbox doesn't have anonymous mode at all leaving an entire playerbase unable to access the feature anyway,

    not really…

    people are emboldened by anonymity.

Until BHVR studies the pattern of behavior and reports back with their findings, the discussion has a place on the forums.

It doesn't matter that they are a minority of anon players we are not bringing back Bubba's original survivor masks just because a minority of players ruined that as well.

Anon players have an awful reputation for a reason, it just makes the game worse so it should be binned.

Being anonymous in a game to do whatever is not even close to be compared to actually using the game's assets for racism acts

    Not even close

    Confirmation Bias.

You focus on Anon-players who do this, but you ignore the Anon-players who dont do this and also the non-Anon-players who do the same stuff as the Anon-players you complain about.

  • Mr_K

Or this Ace, who was cheating and couldn't be reported on Steam due to Anon Mode preventing that

You can report them. Why didn't you report them? Why do you think a profile link is still required?

Just push the report button, submit a support ticket with video evidence. It's not hard.

  • Mr_K
    Mr_K Member Posts: 9,225

Steam won't do anything about cheaters on non-vac games. It's on the game developer to ban players. You are letting cheaters go by doing this.

  • Unusedkillername

Its not the point its the principle of the point. Even if the few are ruining it you need to bite the bullet.

  • Unusedkillername
    Unusedkillername Member Posts: 215

Also, you should consider that anonymous players are more likely call you racist things in the endgame chat so it actually is pretty close dude

  • Caiman
    Caiman Member Posts: 2,886

Or just ban the few, instead of screwing thousands of people over.

  • Crowman
    Crowman Member Posts: 9,517

    Then report them.

Vilifying anon players because you are keeping track of whenever an anon player does something bad while ignoring all the times non anon players do the same thing will never resolve the issue of people spouting racist things in end game chat.

This statement can be applied to both the Bubba mask scenario and Anon mode players I'm not saying it should be, You can probley tell I think the opposite should be done one had to go (masks) and the other should be on the way out (anon mode).

I'm not vilifying anon players more of them act in a way that's not very nice than non-anon players it's just the way it is I don't personally have a lot of skin in this and the existence of anon mode is not the biggest deal to me just look through my profile and you will probably be able to tell I care more about balance than anything else but do think it makes the game worse and for a community that consistently keeps saying toxicity is a problem nobody here actually wants to see any changes in game to tackle it.

In short, the community wants something but wont pay the price of it.

one of the easiest and fastest solutions to clean up some of this game and mitigate the issue would be to bin off anon mode imo.

more of them act in a way that's not very nice than non-anon players

So you aren't vilifying them. But you are.

In short, the community wants something but wont pay the price of it.

You don't speak for the community.

Hate to break it to you but anon players generally are less "nice" than non-anon players. I don't think you saying "I'm vilifying them" like they are a protected species that needs you to defend them changes that.

You don't speak for the community.

Yea I'm saying the community is wrong why do you think that's me speaking for them?

This is like looking a red team fan complaining about blue team then saying "You don't speak for the blue team"

I don't mean to be rude but I think everything just flying above your head
