Why not go all out?
As many of you, Ive been playing a lot of the chaos modifier that has been out for a few days now.
As someone, who already endulges in different perk builds almost every game, I had really high hopes that the rest of the playerbase would finally see the benefits of that.
Sadly, I see a fatal flaw in the design of the modifier, this being items, addons and offerings.
This screenshot I took portrays the issue perfectly.
Sadly, as with the normal mode in DBD, people optimize this mode where ever they can to get an advantage.
My experience has been extremely one sided thus far.
- When playing survivor, most killer players stack the best addons (or what they percieve to be the best addons) and offerings and camp and tunnel people as fast as they can due to the lack of threat, anti tunnel perks usually provide.
- When playing killer, survivor teams are stacked in terms of items and addons. I played 6 matches of killer and never saw a match without a BNP. Might just be my bad luck, but Im leaving that up for debate.
What ever side does not bring the strong stuff looses often. This is sadly the reality in DBD. This rule persists in the chaos modifier. People cant optimize their perks, so the addons, items and offerings have to do the heavy lifting now.
This could easily be fixed though.
- Addons and items are also randomized.
- Offerings are either diabled, also randomized or heavily limited in what can be used (no map offerings)
Generally speaking, this is the most fun I had with a game mode so far, but the decision to leave some things in control in terms of loadout bugs me the wrong way.
What do you guys think about this?

New modifier confirmed: True Chaos
Random items and add ons for all 😏

You didn't explain how they stop tunneling in this mode. You can play a perkless killer and still have your ez wins just by tunneling alone, which almost all killers do now at least since the 2nd day of the event.

I'd love it if they created a randomizer very similar to www.dbd-randomizer.com, which not only creates complete randomness, but also can cometimes either make a slot vacant or even a choice of your own, if the randomizer luckily grants you it, as well as sets a challenge every time where you can gain additional BP (obviously, the challenge cannot be disruptive, so it would be basic, like "succeed at 5 skill checks" or "chase survivors for a total of 60 seconds", or basically the challenges in the randomizer Tome.).
Also, once again, this mode needs to be permanent. Once 2v8 comes out, this has to be the next permanent mode.

and killer :)

I agree with randomizing items, add-ons, and offerings! I think that would be so much fun.
My only thought would be to exclude special event items/add-ons/offerings. That way people aren't at risk of running out of something they can't get again (either ever or until the next version of that event comes out) in a way they didn't want to use it.

I haven’t had this experience at all. I’ve had a couple sweats but it was fine

As a survivor main I think killers should be able to bring add ons but survivors shouldn't be able to bring toolboxes. I think medkits are fine but the toolboxes for gen rushing is a bit much. Especially if you all decide to bring some strong ones, it doesn't make it very fun for the killer. And yes please disable map offerings. I think bringing bps is fine though

Playstyles cant be changed. With this, onoe simply has to deal with. Survivors spreading on gens and killers tunneling is a thing that cant be erased that easily. I find that this modifier was a solutioon to the problem of loadouts decidint matches before they even start, making the match more important over what people bring into it. By allowing addons, items and offerings, this is not achieved.
I think similarly to perks, everything would be usable. Nothing from the loadout would vanish. This means, a survivor that started in 2022 could get a toolbox from years past and a killer could have access to the blighted serum.
Im jealous. My matches have been pretty bad. Sadly.
Then I would suggest to limit, what offerings can be used.

Hahahaha, can you imagine getting one of the forbidden killer combos. Something like Scratched Mirror and Tombstone Piece Myers... hope your perks save you, only to end up with Infectious Fright, Coulrophobia, Unnerving Presense and Insidious... 💀💀💀💀

True Chaos would be random characters, random outfits, random items/add ons, random perks, and random offerings.

what’s bnp?

Brand new part

I agree and I'd like those changes as well. Doesn't fix the tunnel/camp part though unfortunately.

I would just say let people bring offerings (but only bp offerings). And instead of Survivors starting with random items, make them start empty-handed and putting more chests in the trials, like they did with Lights Out. I really enjoyed that aspect. The Survivors' inventories can be completely unaffected. (In Lights Out, even if you escaped with the item, it didn't get added to your inventory.) Something like this would allow me to play my main without depleting his inventory while I level up other characters.

Good idea!

Sure, randomize items, add-ons and offerings
for the price of not spending what I already have

I never said that you had to loose your items.

I am having fun with this mode. I am playing for 8 hooks. It's so refreshing to not have to deal with the same perks and running thr same builds to have a chance on either side.
I Hope they keep this mode. I was unable to play for the last week. I logged in and had 22 hours left till it ends. I would hope BHVR would extend the event. It could be a sign of goodwill as most of us want it to stay.
😀

This isn't all the way true. What you're implying isn't that simple(ggez). When going against not so good survivors then yeah tunneling will work 99% of the time but going against good survivors that will spread out crank gens in your face while their one teammate almost dies drops that significanly. This is a very simple look at it though. While tunneling is an extremely effective strategy(too effective sometiikes) it also requires game sense and super altruistic survs to win easily.
