"S tech" shouldn't exist against Hag

Hi! Hope you guys are doing fine!!

So, since the Hag buffs last patch i've been playing her a little more (she was my first main but i've changed to other killers after sometime). After some matches, i've come to conclusion that one of the worst problems of Hag still remains: the Called "S tech".

What is "S Tech"? Whenever a survivor see a trap in the ground, he/she can adjust the character directly to the trap, turn the camera backwards and run into the trap while holding the S button. Since Hag traps cause a cam swing - your camera is instantly changed to the Hag Phantasm - this will make you run away from the trap, since you are running backwards. Even if the Hag instantly teleports and try to get a hit she will not get it, so this is the safest and fastest way to break the whole trap setup of the Hag without too much risk.

The only counter to this is to use one addon that reduces the trap activation range, since the survivor won't have enough time to run, but only if the Hag teleport INSTANTLY. Against most experienced survivors you can expect this tech to happen every match and it turns Hag extremely frustating to play as in high MMR. Using the Rusty Shackles make this harder, but still possible.

I really like Hag, her design and her power, but this thing in particular makes Hag very bad to play as. Since Hag already has a very clear counter - crouch and wipe the trap - i don't think the "S Tech" to deactivate a trap should be possible.

How this could be fixed? Either reduce the trap activation range basekit (not the best solution in my opinion), remove the can swing (which also would be bad) or give the Hag a small boost to her lunge after teleporting OR make it that if you run backwards during the cam swing you run into the middle of the trap (the can swing changes the W direction but not the S previous direction).

There are a few ways around it. As others mentioned, setting traps in less obvious spots helps a lot. You offset the traps so they still trigger when a survivor goes through a choke point, but they won't see the trap off to the side. Also, if you know someone is doing it, just don't swing out of the TP. Set the traps a little further from windows or pallets to compensate and just M1 once you catch back up to them.

Personally I don't use the S tech. If I see a trap, ill crouch to it, turn around, then run backwards while my camera is still facing the triggered trap. Personally this S tech is less reliable than my method because if they do the S tech, there is still a slight delay for the character to turn 180 and run backwards because the camera shifted their position instantly. And if you have the add on that decrease the trigger range, it will not be enough for the S tech to avoid a hit if the Hag immediately teleport to it (I've seen videos of it).

More likely that they are mad they added very easy counter play anyone can pull off while also leaving in the ever effective trap bait which has always been there. The hag can do nothing at that point and killer is worthless.

Saying "higher skill" like dbd is hard also makes it seem like you have a high ego. Games not hard, knowing the outer radius of a hag trap takes 3 games, don't make it seem like it's worth anything.

Did they "add"counterplay or is this just a natural consequence of the games movement system plus Hag having a camera swing?

To be fair, "crouch tech" is also nothing lower tier survivors do, but feels extremely cheap. Especially as Demo.

They didn't add this tech + the normal max range bait, they have always been there. The added counter play is the wipe away that has pushed down several tiers.

Hag was always a pub stomper, now she's not even good at that.

    Agreed.

I actually like going against Hag, but I think skill expression is important to DBD since it prevents the game from being boring, removing skill expression from either side is generally a bad idea (imo). Stuff like this should stay in the game.

Thats more what i was thinking. Hag has a very clear counter: crouch and wipe the trap. This was the devs intended to be the "counter" of Hag. My issue with "S Tech" is that its make possible remove a Hag trap spending less than a second, with minimal risk invoveld in case Hag is not using the less trigger range addon. To me, even playing as survivor against the Hag, her counter should rely more on survivors being smart and destroying her setup WIPING the traps than using this tech to clear her traps. Anyway, if she already has a clear and easy counter - crouch and wipe - why should another easier counter exist?

But i understand that even without "S Tech" there can be skill expression in part of survivors when they are smart and coordinate to wipe Hag traps when needed. To me "S Tech" feels more like an exploit of a poor mechanic - no offense intented - than a smart counter to a killer power, as the devs planned.

This is a thorny topic, but if "skill expression" should be in the game, they also should leave the Blight Hugtech - it was not intended by the devs, but a good use of Hugtech + bump logic made some Blight players godlike.

But if "Skill Expression" should be in the game, they should leave the Blight Hugtech

Yes, they should have. If you check the discussions I have made, youd know that I heavily defended the Hug-tech.

I said "for both sides" for a reason. Im not hypocritical here.
