How do you people pull off these ridiculous 180s right in front of the killer and not get hit?!
I try it and get nailed every time, but every survivor I chase spins literally under my nose without the hit box connecting, how do you people do this?!

I feel like it's gotten worse. Hitting survivors with simple M1s feels a lot more difficult recently and I can't explain why.

I think this is a PC thing. At least, I've never figured out how to spin with a controller.

do you play killer on controller? Because aim assist/aim dressing/whatever it’s called in this game can really mess up your hits when on controller, plus naturally lower sensitivity compared to mouse.
If you see them doing it, don’t directly hit but wait until their spin is over.
as for spinning yourself, it’s quite easy - but only works against killers that are inexperienced or play with controller/low sensitivity. Just spin your character in one direction, and spin your view in the other direction, needs a bit of practice to pull it off0 -
Somehow nurse is the most susceptible to this, sometimes you can't hit a survivor who is literally at your face.

The game sometimes forbids the killer to lunge, and forces a short M1 attack instead, which can steal hits from the killer. And if you're trying to lunge, and expecting to be able to curve around an object with zero collision, then the unexpected short M1 attack can cause the killer to quickly spin and hit a nearby object. Also, the same mechanic can forcibly yank the camera away from the killer.
The summary is aim dressing has proximity checks, that are COMPLETELY SEPARATE from hit validation checks. And the game sometimes forcibly does things to killers because of the proximity checks, and then steals hits from the killer during the hit validation checks.

Spinning barely ever works and when it does you gain about 1-2 seconds in chase lol. You might as well just keep going forward.
It is significantly easier to get spun when playing on console though due to a mixture of FPS & FPV. The difference between PC and console is quite significant and it's so much easier to lose track of a survivor during a spin and after a hit if they spin into your FPV on console.

Spinning sometimes works because of the forced short M1 attack bug, that can steal hits from the killer. This isn't a "skill issue" for the killer. It's a bug in the game that literally steals hits from the killer.

Yeah it probably does mess with the attack sometimes but short attacks are also a way to counter someone trying to spin you in a lot of cases.
I have seen that short attack bug make me miss though on other occasions when not being spun it's pretty annoying.

the trick to counter this is to use your m2 at around 22-23 seconds.
I agree, these tech don't work at all vs good players. Most FOV tech are just survivor running into the killer. All you do is press S/backward and swing forward. if it is dealing with injured survivor using dead hard then you need to follow the camera and then baby m1 swing.

There's a streamer I watch who plays on PC with a controller and she can do the spins. Not as perfectly as PC players obviously, but when she pulls it off its close enough!

Sorry to say, but that looks like either lag or hacks. Definitely not normal movement, no matter what control method was he using.
There you go. I can even argue that it is way easier to do in a controller than keyboard, as it is harder to get the timing with the keys than just simply rotating the analog stick.

Short attacks are never a way to counter someone trying to spin you, because you are literally forced into short M1 attacks if you are that close to a survivor. This means you don't have the option to lunge when you are close to a survivor… so there's no choice here.
In fact, the reason why the forced short M1 attack bug steals hits, is because it forces a short M1 attack, and then hit validation says the survivor is too far away for a short M1 attack to hit.
The actual way to counter 360s WOULD be to always lunge, and quickly follow the survivor's movement with your camera, and people with a half decent DPI should be able to do that. And that's my prediction on why the bug hasn't been fixed yet. Many survivors honestly think they've "outplayed" a killer when they 360, because they have zero clue that a game bug exists that steals hits from the killer, and that 360s help trigger this bug.

That's not how I counter 360s. I literally watch the survivor trying to spin me and track them and hit a short attack afterwards to score a hit on them. I've been doing it for years and it works fine for me. Wether some of those short attacks are forced due to a bug doesn't really effect me because I'll mostly use short attack anyway in that scenario.
Its also a bug that may or may not happen all the time due to server latency so if you're used to trying to score a hit on a player with a lunge in those scenarios and you happen to only get a short attack then it's something out with your control & you could miss fairly easily.
Just because you don't use the same method it doesn't mean it doesn't work 😂

So your solution is to just never ever lunge at a survivor? Because I’ve had many times where the survivor starts their 360 immediately when I’ve started holding the M1 button.

Idk about that person, but me personally I don't lunge unless I'm contesting a pallet or window because the way the aim dressing is on killers it's easily abused when you lunge but if you get a touch closer than you are now barely missing and just tap the button it will auto lock on the survivor and that was stated by peanits on here a long timeago because with the old movement it used to be alot worse they could do helicopter 360s and the aim dressing would screw you over alot.

Not always it depends on the position and how far away they're, but in general I'll hold my attack if I see them push into my FOV and track them until I'm sure a short attack will clip them. It's something I picked up years ago when I played on console to counter getting spun. PC is significantly easier to both track and predict so that's why I originally mentioned that it barely ever works when you play on PC as both survivor or Killer.

Lunges being unreliable is a major game problem, that should be fixed. Killers should be able to lunge, and not need to worry about a massive game bug stealing hits from them.

180's are just a guessing game, if you're too close you get rekt, doesn't always work, but when it does it feels good. On PC it's a diff ball game sadly, too easy to do on there.

Don't worry about trying to 360 killers unless it's obviously some console player who seems clueless. You're better off getting more distance from being hit most of the time. Maybe nurse/blight you try to 360 before they gain los around a corner that's about it.

Nurse's lunge after a blink is shorter than regular lunge, so its a bit more susceptible to it.

It's always been this way. How hard is it really to make a decent sized attack hitbox for the killer, so that a survivor standing in front of them can be hit by it? No, this was done intentionally.

It did look like rubber banding. Sadly, that's barely an exaggeration of what a real 360/180 looks like/functions like.

That usually is the recommended solution, sadly. "Stop lunging everywhere!" they say as 90% of hits against good survivors straight-up don't happen without a lunge.

This isnt right but im not hating I said the same thing before i got clarification, when you lunge that's how survivors abuse your aim dressing and you can verify that if you want, when you hold the button it draws the swing out for longer allowing then to use the giant killer collision box against them unless it's at a pallet and a window where they can't move, I complained about this year's ago on the steam forums and a dev actually stated if I move a little closer and short attack while kinda angling the direction of the survivor it will auto lock on them I seriously haven't had the problem with that since then and movement was worse at that time the helicopter 360s were still in the game

It's pretty easy to do, but i only use it as the last option before going down. Saves me from the hit sometimes and prolongs the chase. ( i play on PC / Steam )
Its easier to spin console killer than it is a PC killer. Not sure why but that's what ive noticed. Maybe its a FPS thing maybe controller thing.. i don't know, but PC players are faster with reacting.

As a former PC player who now plays on console, it's simply because of the way inputs work.
A mouse movement is controlled with your proprioception (your sense of where parts of your body are relative to you... e.g. so you can touch your nose with your eyes closed). So on a mouse you can move your hand as fast and as far as you want/feel to land the hit.
For controller you hold the stick a direction and the camera turns at a set speed to which you have to let go at the right time. You have no control over the speed of the turn, and when to stop turning is a timing thing, not your proprioception.
The trade off is on console we have an analogue stick for movement, so we have full 360 degree movement whereas PC players are locked on the 8 axis with WASD... but the free movement of the camera more than makes up for this weakness.
At least on console I can control how fast I want to move... Good for memes such as a survivor - zombie - survivor - Nemesis - survivor conga line.

Makes sense. I used to be console player way baaack at the days when Final fantasy 7 was still a thing :D. I still enjoy playing with controller when it comes to RPG games like ffs and personas etc, but DBD is better with keyboard and mouse 100% especially when playing killer.

The forced short M1 attack bug has been in the game for well over a year, when I entered the bug report for it.
People can even prove that the bug exists. If someone records their game in a software like OBS, and adds an OBS input overlay, it will visually show which keyboard, mouse, and gamepad buttons they are using. They can use this to measure how much time their lunges are lasting, while proving they were holding the M1 button the entire time.
…So if the killer holds their M1 button the entire time, the lunge didn't happen for the full duration, and the killer didn't hit a survivor…. then the game forced a short M1 attack.
It gets a bit more confusing, because the survivor also needs to be somewhat in front of the killer's camera for the bug to happen. This can allow partial lunges, where the lunge is forcibly turned into a short M1 attack, after part of the lunge happened. This is even more confusing for the killer, because it "looks like" they were able to lunge, but the game still could be stealing hits from them.
…And the killer can easily test partial lunges too. If the killer is directly next to a hooked survivor, and is facing 90 degrees away from the survivor, then the killer can hold the M2 button, and flick their camera toward the survivor. This will start a lunge, which will be cut short when the survivor is in front of the killer.
Killers can also prove that forced camera yanks exist. If the killer is directly next to a hooked survivor, and is somewhat facing the survivor, they can try lunging at the survivor at various camera angles, and eventually they can find an angle where the camera is forcibly yanked, even though the killer isn't pressing any movement keys.

Most of the killer cameras got messed up after the Chucky chapter released. Implementing the FoV slider is most likely the cause because of spaghetti.

Something is up. I played Oni last night and kept missing swings I shouldn't have missed. It felt like something was up. Very frustrating. On console Killer is so insanely hard, but it's just what works best for me, I do think turning as a killer on console is like turning a mac truck.

Is it possible that the switch to UE5 changed how 360s work in a small way?

It's more likely that UE5 is causing larger desyncs between aim dressing's proximity checks and hit validation checks.
The game really should be making the hit validation check first, and if a hit is confirmed, then the proximity check can force a short M1 attack, or yank the camera, or do whatever else it wants, because it already confirmed a hit for the killer.
The second best solution would be to have both the proximity check and the hit validation check on the server side, at the same time. And if the hit validation check is rejected, then the proximity check is also rejected.

If you're on console that's why you struggle with that, it's harder to hit someone while you have slow motion sensitivity and they're over there like a fidget spinner with double the sensitivity

True, I love it when I have a survivor right in front of me, I see my blade going through him and all I get is a noise like if I have hit some block of wood.

Agreed, and I think this is somehow related to all the weird latency/rubber banding issues that have been prevalent recently. The really bad rubberbanding seems to have been reduced, but everything still seems a bit off, and has for weeks now.
Auto-aim BS has always been a thing, especially when playing on console, but I've personally experienced the most egregious instances I can remember in the past month or so. Like I'll line up a sure hit, but when I swing I rotate 45-90 degrees and smack the wall or piece of junk.
Spinning is easy to deal with, but the aim dressing crap is pretty infuriating.
