Soma Family Photo is the most unhealthy addon for Singularity

Its unhealthy because its the most addictive sugar ever.

I have been playing nothing but Singularity these past 2 months and I see some health concerns for the Kill which might need to be mended. Singularity is an unpopular but very unique Killer, its a type of gameplay you don't expect and its quite fun to play. I know Singularity is down on his luck right now, but that does not mean he isn't due for a checkup on those addons and it does not take even a genius to see how busted one of the addons are.
bHVR you gotta pull this one out and see if the Killer needs a buff after.

Soma Family Photo. This addon is a pure sugar addon. You can make it work with every other addon, it makes the Killer WAY easier to play and your chase potential is supreme. it means this addon is gonna be picked more than others. But honestly why should you need an addon to make the Killer function easier for you? Addons should be additions to the Power, not actually making the power better than not using that addon.

  • There is almost no situation where Soma Family Photo cannot greatly increase your pressure in chase.
  • No other Singularity addon gives such chase pressure or utility for the entire match.
  • bHVR should not have Killer addons that outright the best choice for a Killer.

Conclusion: Its so good, it takes choice away from other Singularity addons.
aka the 'Why would I run anything else?' problem.

I recommend you change the addon to something else and decide if the effect should be a default part of his kit or not. Since the Singularity's Kill rate is so low 5% speed in overclock might not be overpowered as a base feature.

Also make the Ultrasonic Sensor instant activation.

There will always be a best in slot addon. The issue with family photo is rather that it is almost required to make proper use of the teleport, otherwise you just barely catch up to the survivor during overclock. It would therefore be quite nice to have it at least partially basekit, the addon itself is not unhealthy, it is just that it being required on him is unhealthy, addons should be choices and not requirements to make proper use of the power.

"Addons should be additions to the Power, not actually making the power better than not using that addon."

Basically every single numbers change addon does exactly that though…

There will always be a best in slot addon.

Yes, I know this. This is bad.

Making sure no killer has a single "best addon" is key for a few reasons. First off, balanced gameplay keeps things fair and fun. If one addon is way better than the rest, it can make matches feel unfair and frustrate survivors who feel like they can't win.

Having no dominant addon also means killers can try out different strategies, which keeps the game fresh and interesting. This variety lets survivors come up with counter-strategies, making the game deeper and more complex. It's way more fun when you're not just seeing the same tactics every match.

Balanced addons help keep players around longer. When the game feels fair and varied, both killers and survivors are more likely to keep playing, which stops the community from getting bored or annoyed. It also makes adding new content easier since well-balanced addons won't mess things up when new killers or survivors are introduced.

From a bloodpoint economy angle, balanced addons make players want to invest in more items, which supports the game's revenue. Players are happier when the stuff they buy feels worth it, a crucial point.

bHVR ought to take more care of addons which are so good or deemed essential for current play.

Just because one addon is the best does not mean its strenght is that far off compared to all the others though... Both sides has dumb stuff that significantly decrease the other sides chances of winning, but I don't think that this addon is one of them.

I mean sure, there are different viable strategies, but that does not mean they are all equally viable, that is not a thing in most games, there is always the best way to do it and it is probably impossible to make all of equal strenght.

Family photo is not an imbalanced addon though, because if it was making it basekit would be desastrous... Think of tombstone piece for example.

I can agree with the last statement... Many killers suffer from poor addon design where you are almost required to run a specific addon because otherwise it feels horrible, similar to range on doctor before his buffs.

Im trusting bHVR to examine the use over other addons and its win potential, if its even half what I see other singularities use,
then it would be a problem. The fact that other addons also have problems is not a factor in why I write this.

Considering how many utterly useless addons they have created I don't have much faith in their addon design choices...

I've been a Singularity main since his PTB release. I enjoyed him a lot back when the EMP spam was stronger, I enjoyed him when the EMPs were nerfed and I'm still enjoying him after the EMPs were nerfed again.

But, there's one part of his basekit that's just holding him back, and that's the fact that he's 115% even after a teleport, on top of the slowdown of "rising back up".

I've been running double brown practically since his release, "saving the good stuff for later" for a later that was never going to arrive.

Recently though, I had a game where it was just SO close. Every chase would have been perfect if I was just a tiny bit closer to the survivors. Normally, I disliked the concept of the Soma Family Photo. I normally run Glove for the sake of longer Overclock, and I like the comfort of knowing it will absolutely last me the whole loop. But I finally decided, what's the point of having that comfort if it doesn't result in a hit? I'll just get a pallet predropped, then lose all of my progress anyway.

I swapped Slurry for Soma Family Photo, and oh my God. How have I ignored it for so long? It's an entirely different killer with that +5% movement speed.

I might make a post about this, but here are my suggestions to make Singularity more appealing (as he's a very big hassle to play):

    • Basekit Soma Family Photo (Haste reduced to +3%, Overclock duration reduction removed for the basekit)
    • Basekit Slurry (+1 Biopod instead of +2)
    • Basekit Kid's Baseball Glove (+10% Overclock duration instead of +15%)
    • Basekit anti-camp REMOVED. This was always useless, but now that there's an Anti-Facecamp mechanic, it's just annoying.
    • 10-20% smaller Biopod hitboxes (Placing pods can be… Trauma inducing at times.)
    • Scan cooldown reduced (-10/20% cooldown)

These look like they're oppressive on paper, but remember, this is the killer with the highest skill floor. Effort should have a direct relation with outcome. Alas, these aren't oppressive anyway. Let me elaborate:

    • Basekit Soma Family Photo will make predropping weaker, and give Singularity just a bit more personality than "M1 Killer on steroids." It's balanced around the fact that getting infections + teleports is good enough effort, compared to Nurse who can do that with just a click. Yes, that's right. Singularity is a balanced Nurse.
    • Basekit Slurry is for mostly indoor maps, where your Biopod pool can dry out very quickly to cover the 47 different corners on the map. This is also necessary, as going over the Biopod limit removes your other Biopods, and removing Biopods you don't need manually is very difficult indoors.
    • Basekit Glove was ALWAYS NECESSARY. When Singularity came out, this addon was +25%. Of course, BHVR devs saw the amount of people using it and just yeeted the amazingness of the add-on, thinking it was too strong. I personally believe, people run it because it feels super necessary. Kind of like playing Trapper without add-ons. It's suicidal. Basekit Overclock (unless you have everyone infected, which you won't, since 1 EMP can clear out all 4 survivors) is too short to cover most loops by the time you make it to the survivor. A recent example would be Vecna's Mage Hand. You hold the pallet up, and your slowdown makes it worthless, as your power expires by the time you get near the survivor.
    • I won't even bother elaborating on basekit anti-camp.
    • Biopod size is just QoL. The amount of times where you hold your Podgun towards a survivor and hit the wall to place a Biopod is insane.
    • Scan cooldown reduced to force survivors to play in a preventative manner rather than aggressively with EMPs. You shouldn't have enough time to both get rid of an infection AND disable the camera if you get off of the gen AFTER you've been infected. This won't prevent the camera from being disabled and the infection being removed, but it will give Singularity a chance to teleport and punish the Survivor for greeding the EMP.

So yeah, that's how I'd balance the Singularity. I could think of more broken stuff, but I believe this is actually fair for what is practically among the top 3 hardest Killers to play: Blight (Post Collision Rework), Hillbilly and Singularity.

    Just make Soma base kit.
