We still have a massive grind in dbd, it's time to stop and think about new players

As a veteran player with 6k+ hours i'm really done of leveling every new survivor/killer that arrives every 3 months to p3 (perks) ~ p6 (blood cosmetics). I already have every perk unlocked at this point. But can you ever imagine a new player joining dbd at this moment? There's a lot of grind they have to do to unlock every single perk to p3. I know it was waaaay worse in the past, but every 3 months we have to grind more bloodpoints to level these characters, this not an mmorpg.

So my solution to stop this massive grind, especially for new players:

Buying a survivor/killer unlocks their perks RANK 3 to every other character instantly, perk tier 1 and 2 don't exist anymore

With this change players could save their bloodpoints to lvl the characters they want to play to buy all other stuff like itens, addons, etc. We really have to stop and think about the new players joining the game at this point. It's a lot of content they have to grind to obtain everything.

+ give us the option to hide prestige ranks ingame and menu character selection, i'm done of seeing those numbers, make this as an optional button

+ give us a emblem system for players that dont want to show Prestige like: escape 100 times with that specific survivor, or 100 survivors moried with that specific killer you won a symbol to use instead of the Prestige Number, or obtain adept with that character

+ we need a new bloodweb rework, grey itens should disappear, and we should have an option to spend bps even more faster

This sounds ridiculous but is true.

My favorite game is Friday the 13th: The Game and I quit last summer when they unlocked every perk for everyone because the hackers were messing with their database servers.

Even though I had maximized my level to 150 within a month and a half of the Switch release, I always would play to earn more customization points to roll better stats on my perks.

Now, with the game being shutdown at the end of this year, I can barely bring myself to play once every couple months.

OP is also correct that the grind here in DbD is too much! It's way too much! It needs to be reworked, especially as more ASYM Horror competitions come to the market.

But you could manage it, for new players with "x" amount of games played or hours played they get a discount. Many games have a newbie handicap.

It doesn't have to be a base "everyone gets it."

I just invited a new friend to play dbd, when I said he needs almost 5m bps to get to p3 to unlock the perks with that specific character he almost alt f4 the game, imagine doing that with every single survivor/killer? For new players that's joining the game now it's really painful and a massive grind, it's totally different when we started and we used to have only 15 survs/killers. Like I said, we are in chapter 32 already, its almost 80 characters to grind up.

I know for sure, if I would have to start from start. I wouldn't do it.

I usually don't recommend DBD to new players, mainly because this insane grind.

It's just not normal you need almost 2k hours to unlock every perk in DBD. Not talking about money to unlock all DLCs.

I have 1.5k hours and I still haven't gotten every survivor and killer yet… Also it's gotten way worse. I started right at Tools of Torment so I at least had perks like Jolt and Inner Healing but now you don't which is stupid. The new player experience in this game is horrible and I'm surprised I stuck with it honestly.

The grind is not long in dbd anymore, its a million bps per character for their perk unlockable anything above that is cosmetic.
Any new player wont be buying all the chapters on day 1 anyway.

I don't think this is a problem for new players, there are SO many ways to get bloodpoints, rift, tome etc.

I think this is only a problem for the type of player who thinks they need ALL the PERKS to survive, you dont.
The grind is entirely OPT-IN and the part you have to do for just the perks is minimal. And ontop of that excess use of the top perks will push your MMR higher than your skill can maintain. So its not even a good idea to get the top perks.

    Yeah me neither.

Because I don't want them or care about them. I don't wanna play Oni or Wesker.I don't need more survivors; they're just skins. Nobody needs every single thing in the game.

"The grind" is basically non-existent. There's constant events and blood rushes. Nobody needs every character p100 or every perk in the hand considering that only a dozen or so on each side are actually good.

5m bp is like a weekend playing right now. What are you on about?

If the only thing that keeps people playing the game that means the game is dogwater... The game itself should be the incentive to play, not some stupid number popping up or a dumb costume for a character...

Technically more like 3 million, because otherwise you need to level the perks up again… on top of that basic perks usually take an entire cycle at least, if you don't have the other characters level 3 as well it will take far longer to get all the perks.

And considering how many characters there are... The point is not that you need to buy all of them when you start playing, but that you will constantly need to put points in again and there is no end in sight. It definitely got better, but the grind is still massive... P3 every character on both sides and you have like 180. 000.000 BP possibly more and that is just the basic to get all perks on level 3. Given a good game outside of events might reward you 50-80.000 BP that is a huge amount. (Also yes P3 is basically required because otherwise you need to level up all perks to level 3 on all characters, which takes way more points than just doing it that way.) and that is if you only want the perks, I don't think it is minimal... But yes ofc it is not mandatory, playing the game is opt in, using perks is opt in, having perks for decent builds is opt in, the issue is how much effort is needed to just have that stuff... That is what people mean when they complain about the grind being massive.

Sure having for 4 perks to use as the base and everything else is opt in, however the perks you have in the beginning tend to not be too good... Base perks on killer are pretty bad, and those you get from the first 5 killers are also not too good... If you just want 1 good build you will still need to get 3-4 characters, because the good perks are kind of spread among the characters.

Technically no, leveling up 3 perks 2 levels each is not a huge cost. Its a brain trick, assuming the worst cost for leveling up 3 times to get those perks its 150 000 bps you would only see a benefit to going to P3 after 13,33 characters. Then again, most people play on a few characters so it does not really matter what perks Adam has because I'm never gonna play him.

Facts are you only need 1 million bps per character now, any other unlocking's benefit is highly questionable. Like how much value did I really get for unlocking Unbound on Nurse, like come on.

Furthermore I dont share your view that so many perks are useless.

I mean you would be in the minority if you don't think at least 30-40% of perks are extremely niche if not borderline useless...

We have like 40 survivors in the game, and new ones are getting added quite often... Given that you have certain tome Quests and dailies that require you to play different characters I guess it would be nice to have a bit more. But while this is debatable on survivor it becomes a bit weirder on killer... Because here the math does not add up, given that you might want to have the killer perks you have now on all other characters, for example corrupt, pain rez, bamboozle, pop, lethal pursuer, BBQ, floods of rage and so on... I guess the majority of people play more than just 1 killer so for those you would still need to unlock almost everything, aside from entirely useless perk characters, unless you want to play them and need the addons... So even if it is not just for the perks you still need to sink a lot of BP to get the addons...

So while I find your argument acceptable for survivor I would say that killer works a bit different, unless you only play like 1 or 2 of them...

I'm a relatively newer player with 600 hrs and I still don't have every killer perk unlocked, and all I play is killer. It is pretty daunting.

Can I ask you, Why you want to unlock every Killer perk? Im asking to the reason why you do it?

As someone who started May 15th 2023:

If you purchase all the content via bundles and alike, I can confirm from a brand new account, it takes approximately 1050 hrs to level everything to tier 3 on both survivor and killer sides, assuming you make good use of lobby bonuses, special events and cakes etc.

To buy all characters raw for a brand new account with no sales or use of shards is about £205 overall. Each £1 equates to 5hrs of content just to complete everything, which given renting a 2hr movie is about £3, not bad I'd say.

If you just take the base game, my friend has about 150 hrs, and has unlocked with iridescent shards 19/24 of the non licensed characters, and gotten each to level 1. (He did absolutely grind the hell ot of the blood moon event).

Not making a point just sharing what the grind is for anyone interested 😁

im a new player and although i have most of the characters(not many dlcs) i finally got all their perks, not all p3 but i got them to p1, it took around 500 hours and i still have no skins

I feel like an issue with this argument is that it invokes the new player experience while assuming that new player has the same goals and desires as a player with a thousand hours plus.

What I mean by this is that it always focuses on how long it'd take a brand new player to unlock everything on every character, but even setting aside that new players don't have every character… why would a new player want to do that? A new player is primarily going to focus on the perks they have, and maybe branch out into one or two extra that they think sound interesting.

From that perspective, the grind has been alleviated exponentially. You still have to prestige whatever character has the perks you're eyeing once, which is entirely fair since progression goals are a healthy part of most games, but actually doing that is much quicker than before between BP itself going further and you getting a lot more of it. You can also partially skip the grind by playing the character themselves while you're levelling, at least for survivor, giving you access to those perks straight away.

The grind is only appreciable if you want everything on everyone, and that's entirely opt-in. It's also still not that insurmountable, it's just a long-term goal, which is fine.

This game has dozens of characters, perks, and cosmetics. Yet Iridescent Shards are handed out like table scraps to a dog. BHVR keeps the grind to pressure players to shell out money, it's just pure greed. It's a miracle that they cut prices on old chapters at all, and that's something they should have done years ago.

In my case reason is simply I am collector. I get annoyed when I miss something.

That's why I buy all new DLCs even when I don't want to play killer and prestige even when I am not interested in their perks.
