One reason it was so bad was they also tied an Exposed effect to the drones, which required counterplaying the drones, but they made counterplaying the drones very ineffective. It still is ineffective.

Plus, since freedy is on the chart for a "rework" or a change, tehy take more times for other killer who really need (some) buff than waisting time on Skull

It's a pretty ominous sign for everyone, but I'm crossing my fingers it won't be too bad. The way I see it, there are three broad directions this rework could go, and while none of them will actually address the problem (because the problem is "people don't like her" and their reasons aren't actually moored in anything real about her power for the most part), ONE of them would be a good thing in general.

The three directions I see this going are:

1: They completely gut her power with a series of huge nerfs. Nobody will be happy with this; people who like her get their killer ruined, and the people who hate her aren't going to suddenly reverse course because she's a bad killer now.

2: They do another huge overhaul that fundamentally changes her power, like the change that got us to her current kit. This probably won't make people stop hating her - the previous rework didn't despite fixing all her issues and adding very few appreciable new ones - and it'll suck for the people who like her. Small chance it's also an improvement and people who like her now will still like her afterwards, but it'd still suck to lose her current design.

3: They address the problems her kit ACTUALLY has with a fairly large number of individually somewhat small changes. This is what I'm hoping for, but y'know, it obviously won't fix the problem on its own since her actual problems rarely come up in complaint threads. Since this would include "drop something at loop, survivor runs away", it would at least help, so it's worth pursuing as an option from BHVR's standpoint, but it's not as though most people fully understand even that problem, so. Y'know.

Any one of these options would probably take time, so I'm not too surprised by the timeframe we've been given. There's no way Merchant is a super high priority, and changes take time even disregarding that.

Our best hope, whichever option the devs go for, is that the fire kind of fizzles out and everyone moves on to complain about something else so we can finally be free of this exhausting discourse. I'm not holding my breath, but it's a hope.

Unless she will have pickrate and power level of current Freddy, everyone will just hate her and give up againts her out of pure spite.

I find her current version fine but I am minority here and I am pretty sure she will end up being weaker killer.

I knew why I didnt want to level her up for cakes anyway because I knew she will be gutted.

I still don't really understand the Skull Merchant hate...

When I play Skull Merchant, I literally don't put any drones at tiles, I only put drones over generators and otherwise play as a regular m1 killer.

For giggles I take no slowdown and run: -

    • Bamboozle
    • Dark Arrogance
    • Fire Up
    • Unbound

I might throw a drone for stealth, but if its just sat over a loop I recall it... it doesn't make sense that I win as often as I do… but I'd like to think people have more fun… but its hard to say her power is oppressive when people can't even play sensible when you're literally not even using it most of the time....

Whenever I play vs. Skull Merchant I make a solid attempt at looping her... cause I'm still trying to objectively assess her... and tbh... I tend to do quite well.

Honestly I hear people whine about her so often, but she's honestly not hard to beat... and I can't help wonder why this same hatred isn't there for someone like Trapper... he is basically the worse Skull Merchant, but we constantly ask for buffs for him?

Trapper like SM just closes off loops... the only difference being he sucks at doing it... I hear people say "it's not that she's hard, it's that she's brain dead and boring"... Well Trapper isn't hard to beat, and he tries to close off loops that forces you to hold W and leave the loop... but people don't mind him doing it...

Trapper also forces you to look out for traps in the environment... sets them up then tries to push you into them... which are also less obvious than drones, and people are fine with that... but watching out for drones is apparently lame and something people don't want to do?

People condemn the "free wound" that she gets off her drones, and yet people ask for Bloody Coil to be made basekit? People with a straight face want Trapper's Sack basekit, despite Skully having nowhere near the obnoxious basement Trapper lock down... yet can't be bothered to dodge a few beams towards hooks?

I dont have anything against buffing Trapper, in fact I love Trapper, hes like my second favourite killer... but I dunno how Skull Merchant being the good version of Trapper makes her so hated....

Personally I just treat Skull Merchant scans like an exposed effect that I am in control of. I'd almost say at a certain point, standing still and just taking the M1 to make a new tile is the better option... a bit like running to a location with safety where Legion can hit you with his power and just letting him hit you rather than run and get caught in a deadzone... getting wounded doesn't matter, its getting downed that matters, and you can run Skully just as well as anyone else...

So the hate just doesn't make sense to me... at this point it mostly comes across as asinine.

That'll only happen if people stop complaining about her afterwards, and I'm not convinced that'll happen.

not sure how true that is. if a killer is really bad and you escape every time you play vs them. you're more likely to have less d/c because it is free win. free win for survivor == fun/bully material. The issue is that if killer is so bad, nobody will play skull merchant. If the killer has like 0.1% pick-rate than the character is effectively deleted from the game and that exactly what these d/c people want from that complaint. her deleted from the game. childish behaviour if you ask me.

It wouldn't matter, she is already a pretty weak killer yet survivors still keep giving up against her for some reason, even if she become lot weaker she would still have super high killrates thanks to all those strange survivors

  • Krazzik

Even after a huge rework survivors will still just give up against her. She already HAD a big rework and survivors still do it.

Maybe I'm just being pessimistic, but I don't think the tone of the complaints are going to change if she becomes super weak and bad. Maybe they'll become less frequent, but you'll still have people talking about how her design sucks and they hate going against her even though she's weak.

It's not like she has a super high pickrate or super high strength right now, after all. I wouldn't call her weak, but she's pretty middle of the pack, and people still act like she has no counterplay and there's no skill expression for either side.

Also if the Twins rework is anything to go by, they'll screw it all up and end up just doing some number tweaks.

In games that are balanced correctly, this rarely happens.

But you have a game where a 4 year old can get a 4k with a killer. Killer is way way easier and more rewarding than survivor. If both roles required the same skill level, it wouldn’t be a problem. Every killer added makes the game even harder for survivor because it’s a whole new set of rules you have to memorize. Killer, just requires you to know one killer.

I don't mind. I'll keep going next till next year.

yes they will because if nobody plays skull merchant, you can't complain about a killer that you never play against. For example Twin is slugging killer. Survivor CONSTANTLY complain about slugging but they do not complain twins. Do you know why? Because killer is almost never played.

I still think that skull merchant d/c are silly because summary of skull merchant kit is a killer with Clown tonic traps. I don't see anyone D/C vs Clown when he uses giant speed boosts and giant hinders. You don't see people complaining that they need to "Leave loops" vs Clown. Survivors in my opinion are d/cing because of skull merchant power-level but skull merchant power-level is no greater then Clown's power-level. Most of their kit is nearly identical in function with only added component being stealth+broken component. The garnish kit with 16 meter wall-hack makes up clown not having a radar. that add-on might as well be a radar. those stealth and broken component only exist so that skull merchant is not a worst clown, but alternative pick to him.

i think its gonna be the 4th option Twins rework option: Takes months of reworking and push to ptb, people will never like skullmerchant and complain, Entire rework gets scrapped with months of work gone, Skullmerchant remains the same and is back of line to get changes now

Wrong, balance doesn't matter, the reason why it happens a lot is game is fundamentally flawed and hook suicide is completely free

The only way to fix giving up is literally removing the capability to give up, this is an objective fact

Stop making literally everything a killer problem

I had a pretty good rework idea for her and posted here a while ago

    Can't find the post anymore

If I find I will edit this comment

To be fair, some of the stuff on the Twins PTB really did need to not hit live, there were some serious balance concerns there.

Which leads me to believe the same prrrooobably won't happen with Skull Merchant? Unless they actually pull a Twins and what they work on ends up being very unbalanced.

    Weak != fun.

For example, Legion is not strong, but is certainly not a pleasant experience to play against. Same with Knight.

There are Killers who are oppressive, like Nurse, whose strength creates unfun matches. That is not the only way to be unpleasant though.

  • Marioneo
    Marioneo Member Posts: 808

Nurse is the original prime example of unfun why havent they reworked her power? She ignores everything except flash saves shes Stier unlike knight and legion rework her make her have to break pallets and Vaults make it so she cant TP through walls then buff her when shes weak

  • Caiman
    Caiman Member Posts: 2,893

She's just really tedious to play against. Even if you're winning, I don't see much fun in it.

  • humanbeing1704
    humanbeing1704 Member Posts: 8,999

honestly at this point for me it’s mostly the people who play her they know she’s the most hated killer in the game so they deliberately play her in super unfun ways to instigate a reaction

like honestly 95% of the time I get slug bled out it’s a skull merchant

I still think Nurse is a much bigger issue, and shes not getting nerfed, ever.
