Why are OCE servers being merged with SEA/EA/MISC players?

Ever since the event was released, Oceanic (Aus/NZ) players have been thrown into random foreign country lobbies where players are given given 200+ ping.

Is there any update on a resolution timeframe for this? The event has been out for some time now and these lobbies are quite unbearable. Hope a fix is up on the top priority list for us

Fingers crossed… 🙁

prob cause the population of players might be so unevenly distributed at certain points that it’s causing the servers to merge to help reduce wait times as they’re already a bit long in some regions and at different times of the day for the regular game mode and event mode

interesting. I'd rather wait 30 minutes for a game than have an unplayable game though.. :( hopefully it's resolved soon

I totally understand. I’m not sure what server region your in but that could have an impact on your experience if you’re outside the USA

There are heaps of players in my region. I believe it's a bug that hasn't been fixed. We shouldn't be matched with people that far. its unfortunate

It's only happening at peak times, I would guess the OCE server gets overloaded and we get pushed to SEA, It's up to BHVR to invest a little into our server.

Honestly, there needs to be a second server in OCE (I know the only one is somewhere in NSW, so why not put one in WA or maybe a dedicated server in NZ?) that way it can take some of the pressure off the main one, to share the load and make connections more stable. It would probably also "help" with people who VPN in from China or Russia, that way they'd have a more "stable" ping, that way they don't get as much lagvantage.

When BHVR announced dedicated servers originally, the region locations where they'd be hosted matched up with the Amazon Web Services regions, so unless they've already switched to either a different cloud provider or datacenter solution, your options are go yell at Jeff Bezos to create more datacenters in different locations or tell BHVR to just rewrite all their cloud integrations and negotiate equal or cheaper contracts with a different provider.

Friday night, thrown onto the Asian server with huge ping, again.

Yeah it’s getting frustrating. Every game these past few days has just been 150+ ping. I don’t want to play the game anymore because of this :(

If you get ExitLag you can choose the server you get put in, I used it a lot to play NA west coast and Asia once the Syd servers reach degen hours and you get all the toxic morons etc (after 2 - 3am OCE tends to turn feral imo).

  • The_Krapper
    The_Krapper Member Posts: 3,259

This is exactly the problem right here because exit lag also gives you a fps boost and a ping reduction somehow along with doing that so you're going to have a ultra good connection and time playing the game while everyone else in the trial is high ping, it should be a cheat when you use a 3rd party to gain the upper hand like that it's not the same as having a ultra nice pc because you can go beyond that performance with exit lag and make it give you an advantage you wouldn't otherwise be able to gain without it, what I mean by that is if I have two of the very best possible pc builds in the world and ran exit lag on one it would outdo its counterpart.

  • MaTtRoSiTy
    MaTtRoSiTy Member Posts: 1,936

How does ExitLag increase your FPS lol? I already have a constant 120 FPS (RTX 4090 etc) but even then I don't know how an app can make hardware perform better than it was already physically capable of?

All ExitLag does is find the fastest route to the server, if you have a crap connection that is an issue with your internet or how far you are from the server. I live very close to my local servers (in Sydney where they are) so get sub 15ms a lot of the time and I only use it to play survivor on other regions, which actually puts me at a significant disadvantage as I have such high ping I often get hit through pallets and windows and I cant greed.

The only thing I can agree is a problem is people who play killer in other regions as the high ping gives them a big advantage. Which is why so many people complain about Chinese killers in their region, as they all have to use a VPN to even access the game.

  • The_Krapper
    The_Krapper Member Posts: 3,259

It's literally on their front page that it offers fps and small performance tweaks along with what you're saying lol how can you deny what they're advertising?

  • MaTtRoSiTy
    MaTtRoSiTy Member Posts: 1,936

Lol… if you really think this will give anyone an advantage in DBD then I have a bridge to sell you. If you are already at the 120 FPS max cap then this will do nothing. If your PC is so weak that it will not play this game at decent FPS this program will NEVER give you enough FPS to matter and most certainly not enough to give you a competitive advantage as you seemed to imply. This program will not make an unplayable game playable and most certainly wont give you an FPS advantage where you didn't have one prior to installing it.

As I said, the only time ExitLag would give you an unfair advantage is if you play killer in another region where your ping is very high but players are already doing this in regions where they have to VPN to access DBD in the first place.

  • The_Krapper
    The_Krapper Member Posts: 3,259

You don't think lowering your ping to a level you wouldn't otherwise have isn't an advantage? You can try and call me dumb and offer to sell me a bridge all you want I understand how fps works theyre simply advertising that , but when I can have access to like 10-15 ping and nobody else in the lobby can how is that not an advantage? You're boosting a connection for yourself with the help of a third party and it will affect the outcome of every interaction you have in the game it literally can make you have the ability to greed loops longer and get hits as a killer you wouldn't have been able to hit otherwise, I don't understand how you don't call that in itself an advantage when ping in this game matters a whole lot on whether you got certain interactions registering properly

I live in central US and the closest server to me is the Virginia server so ExitLag helps out a ton. Wouldn’t you want lower ping too? ExitLag is also kind of a disadvantage on killer because it reduces your ping so you’re less likely to pokos people. BHVR just needs to invest in more & better servers.

  • The_Krapper
    The_Krapper Member Posts: 3,259

I understand why you would want to lower your ping but it can be used as an advantage because other players don't get access to that low of a ping and you cant deny how important that is on interactions such as contesting windows or pallets, and it doesn't affect killer games in a bad way I know people that use this program they specifically use it for the ping advantage it gives and not the VPN itself because they say it makes the stream look better also

  • MaTtRoSiTy
    MaTtRoSiTy Member Posts: 1,936

I don't use ExitLag for my local server(s), I get low ping because I live near the server not because I am using ExitLag.

I use ExitLag purely to play on other servers, mostly NA west coast so (as previously stated) I don't have to play when OCE turns feral in the early hours of the morning, also when queues are quiet in OCE.

Looks like it's not a bug but a new feature. It would have been nice to be informed that BHVR dislikes their OCE players.

No more bhvr please. It was ridiculous.

Plus I cant understand a thing theyre saying. I may as well be put with bots really.

Yeah I'm currently trying my hardest to start an initiative to get these CONFIRMED changes (intentional changes) reverted, because we all genuinely hate this lag. It's so frustrating that BHVR has done this intentionally and yet are gaslighting us all into believing the problem is our fault, despite the fact they have CONFIRMED it with one of our members.

  • BlightedDolphin
    BlightedDolphin Member Posts: 1,875

Well that sucks. Why not just stick us anywhere in the world that has good MMR at that point. If the matchmaking system actually thinks 150 ping is the most suitable then I think your system needs some massive improvements, BHVR. Especially when it sometimes only takes like 10 seconds to find one of these 'preferred' lobbies.

Please revert this, this is awful. No one asked for this.

  • Bloodwebs
    Bloodwebs Member Posts: 273

Okay so i can confirm it's happening for me still.. majority of my matches are fine, but on the rare odd occasion its still an issue

  • shalo
    shalo Member Posts: 1,530

    Four games tonight.

Game 1: Put on Asian server, 3 OCE Survs, OCE Killer.

Game 2: Put on Asian server, 1 OCE Surv (me), OCE Killer.

Game 3: Put on Asian server, 2 OCE Survs , SEA Killer.

Game 4: Put on OCE server, 3 OCE Survs, SEA Killer.

    MaTtRoSiTy Member Posts: 1,936

It is annoying, I noticed that despite being in Sydney and as close to the OCE servers as I can be, they seem to sometimes send me to Asian servers with very high ping. I have to use ExitLag to ensure I get Syd servers otherwise it is very random where I get routed to.

    Not ideal at all

  • MaTtRoSiTy
    MaTtRoSiTy Member Posts: 1,936

I have to add to this to say that while using ExitLag helps me ensure my ping is good, I unfortunately cannot so anything to avoid the influx of extremely high ping Asian players that I now get matched with.

I can handle having to pre-drop and not greed as survivor when my ping is high but there is nothing I can do to play around killers with insanely high ping that I cant read as hits are so inconsistent to the point of actually being unfair.

I feel OCE players really are being screwed by this change and I see why so many are unhappy

Can confirm this is still happening as an update. Got 2 SEA survivors, another surv in AUS and the Killer was in AUS. They were dropping like flies due to their ping issues.

Didn't feel like a fair game so I just went next unfortunately.

  • Massquwatt
    Massquwatt Member Posts: 439

This seems to be an issue more towards killers than survivor (at least in my experience.) I want to say at least half my killer matches put me in Asian servers? As since I'm Australian it really messes with my ping and things like window/pallet interactations get real weird.

  • BrightWolf
    BrightWolf Member Posts: 444

Yep, when I play Survivor my duo and I always get cucked over by lagvantage from being put in the Asian servers. On the rare occasions where we win against these lag-killers, it's because their ping is so bad they can't play properly or they're just bad/less skilled in general. There is no in-between.

Back on the SEA server merry-go-round again this evening; 150 ping, thanks BHVR.

almost all game i got "huntress hatched hitbox"

I'm seriously so sick of this. I don't mind waiting to get the right server. I already get 60 ping as it is. I do not want upwards of 150 every single game. Who would?

  • BurnedTerrormisu
    BurnedTerrormisu Member Posts: 177

The ping limit is 2.000ms. That alone tells you that BHVR don't care how good the gaming experience is.

I think the worst part is the fact that this change wasn't mentioned at all in any patch notes (at least that I could find)

But maybe it was silently added because they're doing a test run on changes like this to see if people notice and how they react to it, meaning it may be reverted and won't happen again? (Probably just wishful thinking though)

BHVR fix your OCE server. I'm tired of playing against killers with lag. I don't enjoy being hit by a hatchet through a wall because for some reason I'm being matched with players whose ping is sitting at 160ms.

  • shalo
    shalo Member Posts: 1,530

Gave up on playing tonight, 3 games in a row on SEA server with 160+ ping inflicted by BHVR.

Is the next step to shut the OCE server entirely?

  • VaxDaddyReavz

This merge was a horrid decision. I refuse to play this game if I'm going to be sitting on 130-250 ping half my matches each night.

Yours is NOT a game that can be enjoyed with high latency. It's miserable and unenjoyable. I don't know a single player that prefers this change. Sure, it takes us 20 seconds to find a match instead of 2 minutes, but half those matches are borderline unplayable.

This is a change that needs to be reverted.

As an OCE player, I've been playing less because of the server issues.

Just before I enjoyed a match on OCE servers, then when I saw high ping in the next lobby I closed the game.

I've barely bothered playing survivor because it's not worth it with high ping. On the killer side, the game feels nearly as bad to play, and would feel even worse if I played more ping reliant killers like blight.

  • Bloodwebs

Yep… it's killing me at this point. having 150-200ping against a huntress and nurse is harrowing

  • BrightWolf
    BrightWolf Member Posts: 444

Yep…I've noticed that late at night when I play, my ping will start off relatively fine, but then out of nowhere it will suddenly spike and I'm not only getting high ping and framerate drops but also the red diamond "lag" symbol. I check and out of nowhere, I have 150-200 ping. So it must be because the OCE server doesn't have enough people playing at the time so it just connects me and my friends to SEA or somewhere "close" to alienate the wait timers.

  • shalo
    shalo Member Posts: 1,530

A couple of patches have gone by and it's still with us, looks like it's a permanent change, BHVR is fine with forcing OCE players onto servers with unplayable ping.
