Did we just forget what Scott Cawthon did?
I get the FNAF is super popular, but Scott has openly admitted to donating to anti LGBTQ organizations and still has full creative rights over the franchise. Like for a development community to support and collaborate with someone like that is super disappointing. Especially since y'all have been so supportive of the queer community.

From what research I did I didn't see Scott donating to anti LGBT organizations. I dont like FNAF and never really wanted it in DBD but I don't think this is the right approach and as a trans woman I would like to see proof someone is actually transphobic before I start pointing fingers. I could be wrong and missed something but I didn't see groups which were specifically anti LGBT or hate groups on the list

Us people are upset he's donated to people actively fighting against our civil rights and less about his religious beliefs. I've got quite a few friends from a myriad of religious backgrounds. Theology is fascinating and can genuinely help people in their journey through life. This has nothing to do with that

Don't be bringing this up every single time a FNAF thread is posted someone always mentions Scott past donation of choice and the mods always having to step in, delete it all and remind everyone about 'the rules' w/e it falls under.

He didn't donate to anti-LGBT organizations, but he donated to politicians who shared anti-LGBT views. But when he donated and when these views were shared don't line up in some cases. This video is kinda long but it's the clearest i've seen this situation explained

You can collaborate with someone and not endorse their viewpoint. Scott knows DBD is openly pro LGBT AND donates to LGBT charities. And this license puts money into Bhvrs pockets that in turn could be used for the causes Bhvr supports.
Scott isn't letting Bhvr's pro LGBT stance stop a collaboration and Bhvr is doing the same because they are mature people.
Business is Business.

NGL the only donation to a Democrat being Tulsi Gabbard is so funny considering where she wound up.
Also everything I've read makes me think Scott is indifferent to LGBTQ people and his main issue is abortion which his position is still abhorrent but I have a feeling people wouldn't be making the same uproar of that was actually the focus.

Its crazy how people complaining about this don't realize, or simply don't care, that this is purely a business decision and in no way reflects the views or values of either party. Do people actually think they're going to just stop showing their support for the LGBT community now that FNAF is coming to DBD after all they've done? Keep in mind that BHVR didn't have to do anything for the LGBT community and could've focused entirely on making their games being a game development company. The fact that they did shouldn't mean that they can never collaborate with people who don't share the same social/political values.

middle grounds are nice when it's not about civil rights. all here for middle grounds and compromises on different pizza toppings, but messing with people's right's is a bit too much to try to find a middle ground on.

The problem is that is does. As a fellow queer person, you should know that giving financial support to those that advocate against you directly allow them to continue to spew their hatred. Feel free to spend it however you'd like, but I think ignoring the fact that money talks is wildly problematic.

Scott doesn't come across as that kind of person to me. The people that say that are sarcastic people that know they are actually homophobic but use technicalities to defend themself. But scott never really defended himself, i think his last reddit post is a better representation of him than this video in hindsight because fnaf community will want to defend him. But he never defended himself he made it clear what he did, why he did it and stood by his decision. "If i get cancelled, i get cancelled"
I am on Scott's side in this whole ordeal but i will say that he made it clear what he did is not a mistake. In the reddit post he did he explicitly refused to apologize, he stood by what he did. I'm saying this for accuracy

I will say it's very hypocritical, but we all know money talks at the end of the day. I'll bet there's very few people who could look at a huge amount of incoming cash and not drop their values in exchange. It wasn't that long ago that a content creator was dropped from a certain program for (accidentally, apparently) liking an anti-lgbtq post on their YT video. It's very easy to take a stand when you have nothing to lose. In this case, BHVR stand to gain alot.

it's crazy how YOU don't realise, or simply don't care, that their lgbt support is hollow after collaborating with a bigot. not just a bigot, but a bigot who has used his wealth to support groups and politicians that want to make our lives worse.
bhvr's lgbt support used to feel genuine, and after seeing this announcement, it feels fake and it feels like i've been lied to this whole time. "keep in mind that bhvr didn't have to do anything for the LGBT community" yeah well they did, and now they're taking it back. you - who acts like you're so enlightened and so much smarter than everyone else - don't seem to understand how that has crossed a line.

People have been cancelling others for decades, even Richard Prior had a whole segment on it in one of his shows. Fact of the matter is, people have multiple ways of showing whether they support something or not.
To me this comes across as a decision made by the corporate part of BHVR and not so much the DBD devs, but I could be wrong. Business is business and all that nonsense ig. I personally will keep playing DBD, but Bhvr is no longer getting ANY of my money, and it is a big loss for them because I did spend it on this game a lot. HF making more corporate-sided decisions I'd say 🤡

This is exactly why I said before that no matter how much they do in support of the lgbt community it will never be enough. They're not taking back their support for the lgbt community because FNAF is coming to DBD. This collab is not a statement on their views and values. Its purely business and nothing more. While I believe game developers shouldn't use their products to promote their stances on things like this, it by no means should inhibit them from putting the growth and prosperity of their business first.

I really don't think it's too much to ask for a company not to collab with someone who will pass that money on to entities that want to strip our rights. But if I'm taking notes correctly:

this collab is not a statement on their views or values. it's a statement of what, and who, they are willing to collaborate with to turn a profit. this, in turn, is illustrative of exactly what is important to them. almost as though it were a statement on their views and values.
don't worry though. they can get a bunch of new players in to replace us spurned queers with a harry potter collab! the scum sucking terfs will do just about anything to make sure that bog hag continues to go on racist tirades on twitter, and the profit margins will stabilise without us damaged goods making posts on the forums like "why would you generate a bunch of income for a bigot for free".

Just want to point out that DBD and FNAF are global entities enjoyed by people across the entire world.
The political viewpoints/actions of an individual specifically in the United States are not really relevant in this context... especially when the actions of that individual were not illegal in that country (funding a political candidate is not illegal).
I don't agree with the political opinions of a lot of people across the world, but they have a right to those political viewpoints in their own country. I wouldn't for example expect a francise owned by an individual from Iraq, who supports politicians advocating for Sharia Law, to be boycotted from business discussions by BHVR for their perfectly legal political viewpoints in their home country.
Believe me, I have no love for FNAF or Scott Cawthorn, and I really don't want it in DBD; its actually in my best interest to support this narrative.... however to think the creators political affiliations, and them exercising their right to support those political views is relevant here is a little immature.

this sentence is a dogwhistle.
i did not reach out to bhvr and ask for them to support us. they reached out to me and showed me support. then, they announced a collaboration with someone who hates queer people, which i am. this has upset me, rightfully so, and i am justified in being upset about this, because - again - bhvr reached out to me. not the other way around.
sentences like this carry the implication that we, the angry queers, are holding the studio hostage and forcing them to bow to us. to venerate us and to do what we say. this is a common queerphobic narrative that is seen frequently during pride, where bigots rally together to tell corporations to stop supporting us because we are trying to control the world, or something.
the objective here is to characterise us as being irrational or unjustified about being upset.
everybody on this forum needs to keep a sharp ear out for dogwhistles. there are loads of them in this thread.

You're getting a bit unreasonably upset at the person you're replying to. As someone who grew up a massive Harry Potter fan, I've heard consistently over the years just how financially supporting the license is funding JKRs anti-trans crusade. Is it really surprising that some people feel the same about Cawthon, even if you don't? If they feel this collab helps fund anti-lgbtq+ sentiment, they're valid to feel that way. That doesn't make them a troll.

I've said this before on another issue like this. It was a long time ago so I don't remember exactly what the situation was but I remember it being related to lgbt and people complaining about it. I basically stated how the criticism wasn't fair, which is the same way I feel about this. BHVR has gone out of their way to show a lot of support to the lgbt community and I feel like these emotionally charged criticisms are unfair to them.

I totally get the idea of Scott being insensitive to the LGBTQ community by way of his political donations and that's a fair criticism to make of him but to actively say Scott hates the LGBTQ community well…..I'm not sure how many people like that donate $50k to the Trevor Project. I do think this issue is much much more complicated than people make it out to be but in the age of social media people have trouble with nuance. I don't agree with Scott's political positions but he's not a demon for not agreeing with me or you politically and there's every chance the money he does get from this will wind up at a charity like the Trevor Project or St. Judes, is it possible it goes to a republican PAC instead? Of course but it wouldn't be the first time my money goes to something I don't support like every war and military intervention we've been in since I started working and paying taxes. At the end of the day it's totally understandable if someone doesn't want to give money to Scott but demonizing BHVR or people who do want to buy the chapter goes way too far IMO.
