Can we stop making the game free on EGS?
Slight rant here, but I just had another hacker in my lobby who lo and behold is on Epic because hackers have thousands of accounts you can purchase for $5. I wouldn't be too annoyed but now i have to go out of my way to the website to submit a ticket and upload a video when all of this should be possible through the game. It shouldn't be this much of a burden on the players who are affected - end rant

I agree their reporting system does need to be more player friendly. If I remember correctly, it's too late to add in any kind of match replay system now. That such a thing would have had been originally coding in back in 2016, and the time & resources to cram it in would be near-impossible sadly.

I remember they said that to add replays they would need to redo the entire game, but some of my friends who are close to the gamedev said that it is absolutely not difficult and one plugin is enough to add replays to any UE game. I think it's just way to expensive to support this function.

It's not even a plugin, it is already integrated into UE and the part that would take more work would be the UI. Not only that, but many UE games have implemented that same system way after the game was released (e.g. Fortnite, Rocket League, Tekken 7…).

Too late for that unfortunately, people stockpiled a solid few thousand accounts to cheat on from when the game was free on EGS. I personally wouldn't mind if the DBD base game was made more expensive, but also inluded some more of the older characters by default. DBD is in demand enough that it doesn't need to cost 5$ on Steam to get new players, all it does is make it cheaper for cheaters to get new accounts. Then there's game pass too which is another easy way to get an account to cheat on.
I really wish that this game had proper anti cheat from the start but when you look at the origins it had as a Peer To Peer based game where your save was managed almost entirely locally on your computer, it makes sense that the anti cheat isn't any good.
This game should have never became free on Epic tbh.

I think they just need to pull the game from Epic entirely. They can't quash the cheater problem as long as Epic is able to free-gamepass the game.
I'm sorry Epic Gamers but maybe they can give you a free version on Steam to compensate?

the issue is that removing a specific copy of the game is not going to be enough to stop cheating. if you want there to be no cheaters, then you may as well not have a game at all. if it exists, its hackable.

Of course there's always going to be cheaters. But there's going to be a lot more if they keep making it easy for cheaters to get new accounts to continue cheating with whenever they're banned. It's enabling a problem to make it much worse than it normally would be.

there's really no easy way to mitigate that though, that's the issue. even if you took away the person's ability to make a new account, they'd spoof their way into making a new one or continuing to buy accounts off of people. you cant prevent someone from making a new user account, you can't prevent someone from buying a game, and you can't really stop people sharing their credentials to allow others to play. they will find a way around it.
i'm not saying that nothing can be done, as there are some options and i do agree that changes need to be made, but the reality is that the gaming industry is plagued with cheaters and there's no real true way to remedy the issue when it comes to live service games specifically. with the amount of tools out there as well, you can only slow it down so much before it bleeds into what steps need to be taken by the end user, and at that point it can become oppressive to your regular playerbase. COD, GTA, forza horizon, and other major titles still suffer from these issues to this day.
it also doesn't help that DBD has become boring or unpleasant to a lot of people, so there's a major incentive to do things to the game that people otherwise wouldnt or is beyond the game's scope. this is the nature of today's gaming climate.
people have fun in their own ways when something gets boring and unfortunately that comes at the expense of others. and even if you somehow manage to make the gameplay more engaging, eventually that gets boring too. it's all a cycle. 😔

Don't cheaters get hardware banned? If so, doesn't that prevent the problem of just reinstalling the game on a different account? Same hardware is being used, right? Unless there is an easy way around HW bans, it seems like that should solve the problem of hackers using multiple accounts to circumvent bans.

Okay but making doing all of that even easier than usual is still bad and it should stop being enabled so much. This isn't about fixing all cheating, this is about not doing things that make cheating way easier for cheaters to do.
You're just arguing for the sake of arguing. No it's not a perfect end-all solution to every problem ever. Nothing is. Pointing out "but it doesn't fix everything forever" contributes nothing, it's just deflection.

i would be completely okay with game being free on Epic (why do people even use Epic when it's the worst platform in existence with the worst customer support and client ever) if DbD stopped relying on EAC (which is a terrible anticheat system btw) and video proof provided by player in order to punish cheaters and we actually had much better way to punish cheaters, something maybe like Overwatch system in CS2?

They are not even getting new accounts from Epic anymore, according to a hacker interviewed by Choy.
EDIT: Seems like mods don't like Choy videos, so look it up in Youtube.
So, the solution is not removing a copy from the game on any platform. The best solution is for BHVR to fix their account system (and I'm going to guess that the BHVR account is the first step) and start doing software detection, as the hacker said himself.
Also, you have to take into account that someone paying 18 bucks a week to cheat in a videogame won't have too much problem paying 20 for the game again whenever he is banned. Because yes, they are paying for it. Sad, I know.

I was talking about making the game free on EGS. Like OP was.

The game was free one time on EGS only. AFAIK, it was never free again. Also, you were responding to a conversation about pulling out the game completely from EGS (that I have to say, if they are going to give an Steam copy in exchange, I'm all about it).

Just wanted to give everyone an update and say that thankfully BHVR was really quick and action has been taken, I'm sure they will immediately hop onto another account but at least they have to spend more money

i don't think i'm 'arguing for the sake of arguing', im merely contributing my thoughts to a discussion and i thought your post was an interesting talking point. i believe that no matter what system is implemented, cheating will continue to be a major issue even with the difficulties implemented. such is the nature of technology and those who choose to either use or abuse it. bad actors are everywhere and no amount of restrictions will fix that. the best thing that players can do at this point is to simply just report these people when they see them to slow them down and force them to buy copies over and over again.
it's an arms race against cheating and modding. it's not the end-all-be-all, of course, but this is something that has to be accepted as part of this age of gaming and technology. it sucks, but sadly people will do what they want and will do anything to get it done as i said.0 -
I got the game free on Epic and I would not accept a Steam version in exchange sorry. Luckily Bhvr. is not stupid enough to entertain such a ridiculous suggestion. You guys that complain about cheaters try playing hunt: showdown for a bit. Dbd will then seem like an oasis in comparison.

I'm sorry, but something has to give to get rid of the cheating problem. If Epic is where all the roads point, it's clearly an issue with Epic.
